Went West Brom game with 16yr old daughter felt really unsafe, so small minute we got inside 30 mins before KO couldn’t move.

Daughter quite frightened but handled it.

Space was tiny for what seemed like thousands and thousands of people.

Anyone else find this is it always like this there?

Been to approx 15 aways this was only time I’ve been concerned.

Maybe I’m getting old!

Bit off the topic of West Brom but when anyone talks about unsafe I always think back to that Peterborough away game around 2011 when we lost 2-1. No exaggeration to say we could have had people die that day. No idea how more wasn't made of that.

That’s the only one that’s ever stuck in my mind. Toilets were like a farm yard and they had clearly oversold the end.

Was really over sold that day.......we went into the stand at the centre turnstile and struggled to get onto the terrace(I had my 9 year old lad with me)........We walked down to the end of the stand and it was marginally better, but still wedged! We managed to find a place at the back and just stood there with our backs to the Wall!

Was that the one where Beckford couldn't be arsed running up for the corner at the end?

The away end went into the stand on the side (to the right as you look out at the pitch from the away end) which was where my seat was and you could see how many people were in there.

Was 15 and loved it at the time; in hindsight was completely mental

Uncomfortable yes. Unsafe, no.

Peterborough away was like that because it was the only old school terrace we got all season, but also horribly managed by Posh at the same time.

Much like crowding around the doors on the Tube though, I think half the problem could have been solved if people were willing to stand out on the right of that terrace instead of crowding in the middle. People complained it was overcrowded in 08/09, but there was loads of room up that side. It wasn't fully covered by the roof though so the sudden hail was fun half way through the game.

Bit worrying if this has not been addressed.  Thinking back the Only time I ever felt really concerned was a match at Newcastle back in about 1972. I was visiting family on Tyneside and went to match against Wolves. Only three sides of the ground open as new stand was being built. Really packed in behind the goal and several times the crowd surged forward as Newcastle attacking that end. Never been so pleased to get behind a crush barrier.

Peterborough away the season we got promoted was pure carnage it seemed like there was an extra 1k in that stand that day everybody seemed  pissed flares going of left right and centre small scuffles happening with each other, people just pissing up  burger stand, I imagined it would of been like something from the 80s away day🤣, loved it tbf 🤣,  another nuts one was the last game at filbert street in pen 1 of the kop (not for the faint hearted) yea not nice for young kids

I thought Ipswich was awful. Total gridlock, mostly due to the openings to the seating having no numbering above them. Painting “101-200” etc above an entrance costs a few pence ffs. Maybe it was on the walls…but you couldn’t see the walls. People were just guessing then coming back into the concourse and every exit became bottlenecked. One corridor lead to a dead end, a room with just a catering outlet in it. Had we had to get out in an emergency I dread to imagine it.

I'm sorry if this comes across as patronising, and I don't mean it in the slightest.

I thought it was quite tight, but had noticed before going there that it was a larger allocation than they've given in recent years, despite the stand still being split in the same place.

They'd extended it by allowing an extra couple of blocks in the actual stand with zero concourse space extended; just an extra entrance opened, and no sponsor sheet separating fans that they'd had previously.

I didn't think it was dangerous, but can think how somebody would feel with a child (like if mine had been there). I wouldn't have been comfortable with my lads there when I'd walked in at 7:30.

I hope you're both okay and it hasn't stopped you wanting to go again!

Unfortunately this is how it often is now, and I'd advise getting there at least 45 minutes in advance next time, and then sitting/standing in the stand watching the warm-up.

For context; I'm sure when we we played Sheffield Wednesday this season they had most of their away end locked out as they'd intended to stay in the concourse in protest, but the concourse could only hold 1/3 of the actual away end.

I guess with it being a Friday night more wanted to be on the piss than usual. Can't blame them/me!

Burnley the worst

Villa pretty bad too despite being a relatively new stand

I don't go to a lot of away matches but have been to Burnley a couple of times in recent years, and now that you mention it I do recall it bring VERY congested trying to get from the toilets back to the seats via the concourse.

I'd guess it's where an older style stand just doesn't really have adequate space in the concourses.

I've often moaned about the poor design of the dog-leg entrance/exit to the toilets at the KP, real pinch points with people entering and exiting through narrow spaces. But it never feels unsafe. There's no comparison with some of these older grounds in terms of adequate concourse space.

It absolutely pissed it down and hale stones.....then went back to being 🌞 if memory serves......weirdest weather at a footy game I've ever seen!

Bizarrely one of the best aways I’ve been to though. When we scored it was absolute bedlam.

The guy on the tannoy actually asked for fans to push forward. Crazy.
