I was around 15 rows below this incident and it actually made me physically upset having looked over and see CPR being given, Had a massive flashback to a personal matter! I pray for the person to be in good health and I do feel that incident warranted the game to be suspended also as I noticed a few Leicester players watching what was happening also

Myself and the people around me directly opposite in SK2 were saying it should have been stopped, especially given how long it was going on. It scared me, can’t imagine what it was like for those around it. Hope the individual pulls through.

CPR seemed to go on for an eternity, hats off to those heroes if they pulled the person through. Do think the game should have been stopped to be honest.  Praying for a positive update.

The rule for stopping was put in place for when teams doctors/medical staff form part of the response in the stand and therefore the players are at risk as there’s no one to look after them if needed. Similarly if a defib is taken out of action for use in the stands.

I assume on this occasion the right amount of medical attention was sourced without needing to use match day medical team members?

That’s really interesting, I’d not realised this was the rationale behind stopping the game 👍

I just wanted to give you an update on my mate who was taken ill last night. He’s sedated and having lots of tests done but he’s stable.

Sending strength for a speedy recovery!

pleased to hear the fan is doing well. great news. distressing to see but i must agree that stopping the game would not have helped this situation. also accusing the ref of being the one to keep the game going is mad. it would not be him making these calls it would be a safety officer

Good to hear that the fan is stable. I did notice that the ref appeared to talk to both captains and even ran over to speak to Stolarcyk while this was going on. I wondered if he was stopping the game or perhaps explaining to the players that they weren't stopping and checking they were okay to carry on.

Good to hear he’s doing well must have been awful for people to witness especially the chaps family, was great to see how quickly he got the right people to resuscitate him and wish him safely off to hospital hope he makes a full recovery and fair play to those who saved his life 🙏

Fantastic news, couldn't get the thought out of my head that he/she could have been there with a young child, having to watch this unfold, best wishes to all the family, and praise for the emergency services.

Brought back memories of the scunthorpe fan a few years back.

Thats good to hear. Its disturbing the amount of posts ive seen on Facebook, mainly the same name, that are saying he had died whilst in the stadium and he had been told this by a steward, paramedic or a doctor. As if these people would tell some random stranger this news. Hoping for a speedy recovery

Delighted to hear that mate, was awful seeing it all go on yesterday. When they come around I hope you can relay all the good wishes they're getting. All the best.

Whilst that does make sense as a reason for stoppage, surely if the game continues then reaction to something like a goal could potentially increase risk to the individual and the response team? Even if you assume nearby spectators are going to be sensible in that situation, I'd still have thought the best course of action would be to pause the game for however long it takes just to remove the unnecessary risk.

Glad to hear he's stable, hopefully he makes a full recovery x

Highlights the importance of knowing how to do CPR (we can all do it) and getting a defibrillator to people as fast as possible.

Absolutely.

Though, when such an incident happens, some can be quite reluctant/unsure how to perform it.

Completely agree with you :) I was sort of just defending these silly rumours about the ref who was most likely following the rules.

Aye, we're definitely on the same page. 100% understandable for the ref to carry on until told otherwise - presumably the 4th official will have been talking to him and stadium staff and if it had needed to be paused I'm sure that would've been enacted quickly :)

This is amazing news, credit to the medical staff and authorities for getting in and out so quickly.

A wayward shot, clearance etc and they could've absolutely been at risk of being hit

Plus the break calms the crowd, it makes it easier for medics to move around because they are not blocking views and it allows them to focus and communicate without being distracted by shouting and chanting. Plus, it means club doctors can get involved if needed.
