Honestly, while it's nice to see some new faces getting involved, we've still been cowardly in including them during a season when we had a real opportunity to integrate them. Alves and Braybrooke were both cast aside, the star boy in Monga got a handful of games before becoming a bit-part player, and the rest have drifted in and out. Nelson had a bad game in a shite team performance at Huddersfield and was cast out for months.

Alves & Braybrooke have not been cast aside they are both recovering from long term injury which has stifled their development.   I agree on Nelson.  Bizarre that he spent so long being overlooked.

And on the flipside, I'm not going to take any pride in Thomas and Choudhury continuing to be involved - they're still here because of our board's incompetence and neither improves us - Thomas actively makes us worse and is constantly targetted, as he was yet again on Thursday with predictable results. We had the chance to sell him and instead of doing it, we gave him a massive contract extension. It's madness. The whole point of having academy players is to give them a chance and see if they're good enough. If not, you let them move on. In Thomas' case we've done that, seen he clearly isn't, and decided to persist with him with increasingly embarrassing results for six years. Meanwhile there are others like Aluko behind him in the pecking order who can't get a sniff, but we're supposed to be glad Thomas is proving we trust our academy - surely you see some of the irony?

Yes, if we had a chance to sell Thomas we should have but we were talking about whether the club gives academy youth chances or not, not whether they are any good.

KDH is the only academy lad from the past decade who has genuinely improved us, and he was sold the moment our finances went tits-up. Considering how much money we've thrown at Seagrave, we either trust the academy to be our squad's spine, which we were supposed to be doing this season, or we use it as a conveyor belt to sell talent to fund external aquisitions. The closest we've come to capturing that lightning in a bottle was somehow fooling Ipswich into parting with the wedge end of £10 million for McAteer, but none of that was even invested back into the squad - we got a few loans in return and will now be using it to pay Antonio's wages on a short term deal.

Barnes and Chilwell.

We're just run appallingly and have no idea what to do with our academy - if a mediocre mid-table Championship campaign isn't the time to be giving the likes of Aluko, Evans, Alves and Braybrooke first team chances then what chance would any of them ever get if by some miracle we ever did find ourselves in the top flight again? We wasted half a season letting shitheads like Faes, Soumare and Winks clog up the squad and stink out the pitch for god's sake. Let's not pretend we've really trusted the youth this season, certainly not when we've not been forced to through injury and suspension.

Yes, we are run appallingly, but it's arguable if the  likes of Page, Evans and Monga are ready yet.   Same for Aluko and S. Thomas.  Under normal circumstances you might expect them to go out on loan and work their way up to this level, its only because we have a team of 'shitheads'. as you put it that there is a clamour for their inclusion.  I do think that it's possible to harm development by bypassing those stages.  I also think and hope that they are the future.  They are really the only reason for any spark of optimism that I can see, however, your original premise (rant) that I was disagreeing with was that youth doesn't get a chance at Leicester.  That's just not true.  They are just not getting their chance as quickly as you would like but that might be for the best.  IIn the last decade I give you: Stolarcyk, Chilwell, L.Thomas, Nelson, Choudhury, Barnes, S.Thomas, KDH, MacAteer and coming through Page and Monga.  I've probably forgotten one or two.  Alves, Evans and Braybrooke to come.

Dodged a bullet.

Hopefully put the pennies we have left to better use.

Would have been our luck to spend on him and then get injured instantly...

Typical that. A reasonable 6 month option of a player that has something to prove and then he gets injured in his rehab.. just give an academy grad a go

I'm not taking the piss, but can we bill Antonio for the coaching (lol), medical, and no doubt overly generous Seagrave hospitality?

Dodged one player that will injury prone and now you boys want another striker who's passed his best and struggled to stay fit for longer than a fortnight. Come onnnnnnnn

A bit sad for him but at least we gave the deal thorough consideration rather than just signing him a few days in.

It does make you wonder what market we will be shopping in if he was the option though. Who now?

They were surely joking based on his profile.

Thank god for that.

Now bring Callum Wilson.

Are we linked? Wilson is genuinely brilliant when fit. He’s actually worth a risk on his fitness
