Best of luck to him, think he was destined for a move eventually.

Shame he never reached a level where we could demand a bigger fee.

Shame our demise as a club has influenced a prompt departure and underwhelming fee.

I don’t think I have ever seen a consistent winger.

Lenny Glover was the most consistent I can remember but the memory is not what it was. The drop in standards from Fatawu and Mavadidi is alarming, both need a "new challenge".

Over £40 million brought in for Bilal, Monga and Fatawu. In league one terms, that's absolutely enormous.

Nearer £50 million. Should have been more in other circumstances, but if we cant rebuild with that and rip this league apart, then the guillotine needs wheeling out

Not sure if people fully understand that all of the sales so far are going in to paying debt off, not improving the squad. It'll take two or three more sales before we start reinvesting, I'm led to believe.

Add in loan fee for Kristiansen, fees for Winks and Richards as well as potential further sales from Faes, Souttar, Skipp, Mavididi and Okoli and we should be looking at well in excess of £70m.

We should be able to have a decent little kitty to go and rebuild from that. Even £10m goes a long, long way in this league.

Well id even priced that in as well. But even if we cant do well with spending say £8 million on transfers and wages we will have failed. Especially with the youth coming through. League 1 clubs dont even have them resources at their disposal.

Nah, I get that. I'm confident at least three of Souttar, Nelson, Faes, Skipp and Mavididi will be sold though.

Last year the high spenders in League 1 spent around 4m.

I think once we see the back of Souttar, Nelson, Faes, Skipp and Mavididi, we will start spend a bit.

Yeah, Birmingham and Wrexham a couple of years ago were an anomaly. £2 Million on paper still gets you a top player for this level.

I don’t think we will spend anything. I think we will plug the £70m black hole with transfer money, and just operate in the loan and free transfer market. Top has no intention of investing any money into the club…… it’s very much all on Martin, as they always try to do, hire an “exceptional” manager, to basically get more out of the squad.

I genuinely think the board will think our academy alone will be capable of getting out of the league….

That would mean that we wouldn't have paid a transfer fee for a player in two years. A very telling sign of how bad the financial situation is.

It is, considering we’re a league one club, and he’s probably only had one good season with us, plus a nasty injury…. I wasn’t expecting £20m.

Staggered we’ve managed to get £20m…… genuinely great business.

Under Enzo he obliterated the chances created record. IIRC the record was about 20 and he managed over 30.

Last season he managed 17 g+a which showed he has end product.

He's 22.

He's genuinely top tier when it comes to off the ball stuff too.

Frankly, 20m is an insult and it just shows how badly things have gotten for us that there are people celebrating us getting roughly the same amount that we'd spend on an Adrien Silva, Boubacare Soumare or Oliver Skipp.

He will go on to have a long Premier League career. Wingers like him are few and far between.

I think it’s that bad. They’re terrified of spending money now.

I don’t disagree, I just didn’t think anyone would cough up more than £10-15m given our current situation.

I would have said the same, but a few journalists have mentioned that we have a £10 million transfer kitty.

To be honest, with the right free transfers and loan signings, you don't necessarily need to spend huge amounts on transfer fees.

The bigger issue is the wage bill. As a relegated club, we have to comply with the EFL's SCMP (Salary Cost Management Protocol) rules, which mean our player wage costs need to remain below 65% of turnover.

It's monitored quite closely, with clubs required to keep the league informed of any significant changes that could affect their position. That's probably why we're seeing the "a couple out, a couple in" approach, as the club looks to balance the squad while staying within its financial limits.

For me, in our current situation, 20mins is ok, not great. I think in today’s market you are getting a steal for that price. He will instantly be Ipswich’s most exciting player and will go for aoooo much more in the future. I had the situation we are in, people thinking this is a good deal I’m my opinion are way off. We are trying to undo years of miss management. Deals like this unfortunately nessesary, whoever we are not getting the sunny side of that deal. We are getting what we can.

PL defenders know how to deal with him. Sure, he is quick, but you pretty much know what he is going to do.

You would think if we had any intention of starting a re build with talented young players this would be the season to do so when it comes to paying fees… I might be wrong but I’m sure I read the ffp rules were geared towards outlays on contracts rather than spends (might be wrong)

either way we still wont spend a bean lol

edit.. just noticed Coolhandfox has covered it

This is where a good coach comes in. Today’s market is wild. You have to pay 12 mill for macateer and twice this for Tyler ****ing Dibbling. 🤣

Abdul is not perfect or hugely consistent but I just think for 20mill in today’s market, you are getting a lot of player that is going to get better. Need to make sure there is a sell in clause in there.

They wouldn’t be able to spend what they did now, that was the whole point of changing the rules.

Plus their respective situations were far different to a team that was in the premier league just 2 seasons ago
