5 years ago we had just beaten Fulham away 2-0 to move ahead of the Jurgen Klopp super team.

We played this 11:

Kasper

Ricardo Evans Soyuncu Justin

Hamza Tielemans

Perez Maddison Barnes

Iheanacho

I don't think I've ever felt prouder to be a Leicester fan than after that Man City game. It felt like we could beat anyone.

Won at Manchester City didn't we? 6th Feb rings a bell. Brilliant away day that, one of my favourites.

10 years to the day. Also was (and still is) my birthday - definitely the one of the better presents I've received.

Lashed it down big time before going in so soaked to the skin, amazing game, coming out Man City fans holding their hands out to shake yours, very gracious in defeat, chatted to a few on train journey home.

I recall walking out the stadium, we were level 1, the noise coming from the stairwell above for the level 3 section was mental, good times and a million miles from today.

and we moaned non stop about Perez. I'd love a player with even half his work rate, right now.

I always liked Perez. He just wasn't ever a winger and was always judged against his price tag.

He'd be comfortably our best player now.

He was always neat on the ball. Especially with Ricardo behind him, they both seemed to be on the same wavelength.

Our decline is almost as amazing as our triumph.

Its a once in a generation case study. To go from winning the premier league, playing in Europe to being financially ruined and on the brink of league one in a decade. Its incredible.

None of it would have happened if we sacked Rodgers before the World Cup

Arrrgh Perez was shit and symptomatic of why we’re in this mess!

Not a chance.

We're in this mess because we started buying players like Wout Faes, Boubacary Soumare, Jannik Vestergaard, Patson Daka, Ryan Bertrand, Connor Coady and Harry Winks. All coming in with either a shit attitude on massive dough.

We overspent to bring Perez here and we were wrong to let him leave for nothing. He's shown since he left that he's a quality player.

Being the worst of our starting 11 in our 2019-2022 squads doesn't make him a bad player. I think people just need to have a scapegoat.

No, it’s completely symptomatic.

We overpaid on a player that wasn’t a natural fit at all. We bought him because he was available rather than he was a good fit - the antithesis of the good scouting that had gone on previously.

The fee and the inflated wages meant we couldn’t shift him easily. He also went missy in tricky games and his goals came in games we’d already comfortably won like against Sheffield United and Southampton.

He’s obviously not the worst player ever but he was shit for the money, shit when it mattered and was “ill” loads of times.

The opportunity cost (not his fault) of the signing was the biggest in our history, had we signed a good RW for the money - we in all likelihood finished in the top 4 at least once.

He was also that rubbish that wherever he played “he was out of position” whether that was on the wing, as an AM or up front.
