Does anyone actually know why?

I think it may be because it is a re-arranged fixture from a Saturday and was not origonally scheduled to be televised. (It would have been a 3pm kick off if it was still being played on Saturday).

When it is a full midweek set of fixtures, Sky can show them all via the red button.

I may be wrong on all that but I think it's correct

Yes this is correct. The other two rearranged Championship matches on this evening had originally been moved to Saturday 12.30 for TV so are being shown.

Attendance will be interesting tonight. The usual 27k ghost in attendance?

This has 0-4 written all over it. I hate football

The reports of the Birmingham match suggest Leicester weren't playing badly until the sending off scuppered things. Keep eleven men on the pitch and play as well as you did for the first half-hour at St Andrews and a home win tonight isn't so unlikely.

I’m not going. Was debating it but I can’t be arsed. Even if we win (😂) I don’t regret not going if I miss a game these days. That’s what these ****ers have done to us.

Feels like Southampton usually gift us a win when things are looking bleak. For that reason I'm leaning towards a win.

But like every game this year, no result would surprise me.

That is awful.

Any manager that sent out that formation/line-up should get their P45 immediately.

1.) You’d get killed, both down the flanks and in the middle with that.

2.) You’ve picked 3 centre halves… but then have your midfield ball winner dropping into the back line - WHY!?!

3.) If you only have 2 players playing on the flanks - you do not want them on opposite sides to their stronger foot so their instinct is to drive inwards.

You already lack width and have plenty of bodies inside - so to put Fawatu on the right and Mac on the left in this formation is nonsensical.

4.) A box 4 midfield is something you should be created as a rotation from original positions - so say the 3 midfielders, plus one of the wide men, the striker or an inverting full-back.

That makes it fluid and unpredictable.

Having it set on paper as the starting formation however like you have done will cause issues because your asking players to make that shape from the get go - at which point it becomes very rigid and predictable for the opposition.

5.) The formation has no deep threat.

Having that many bodies positioned that high from the get go will be counterproductive; players will be filling space rather than moving into it and just become very easy to zonally mark out of the game.

6.) Despite the supposed 3-2 base of the formation; it would be week in transition due to the intended high position of your wide men and the two advanced midfielders.

A direct consequence of this would be your central defenders having to go into wide areas to defend; increasing the spacing between them in the process, lessening their ability to cover through balls / track runs.

Additionally, if Skipp is to slot in to make it a back 4… that leaves Winks on his own in the middle and it’s very notable he is not Kante.

Anyway - to conclude, these are just some of the reasons why you won’t see anything like this… from any manager of any club.

And honestly - a back 3 is not the answer to not only our defensive problems… but also our emerging attacking problems.

These two selection choices were simply based of

A - Lack of availability

B - Lack of confidence/form

C - What have we got to lose with 1 win in 18?

The first team I selected, does show Aluko as a CB instead of his natural position as a full-back, however my thinking behind that is with Nelson on the other side, you have two 'central defenders' either side of Lascelles who will listen and learn from his experience, but also have the footballing ability to step further forward with the ball.

The box 4 in midfield has its flaws, Winks' position in the 11 begs a question because of his suspected attitude, but again, with injury issues, suspensions and bad form, the selection was simply based on what we had.

Having the two wide boys play further forward, does leave it wide open down the flanks, IF Mukasa and Page are not regimented in their roles to pick up in the pockets behind Fatawu and Mavididi which if I was picking the team would be my instruction, which would enable us to engage in a high press if Southampton play out from the back, so we can engage at the first opportunity, instead of allowing teams to come onto us, as we have done for most of the season under Cifuentes.

We haven't gone back to what our identity was during the 90s and to a certain extent under Pearson and Ranieri which is having a go at teams, we sit off, so why not start on the front foot?

You are entitled to your opinion, as I am mine and admittedly, of the two teams in my last post, I would have opted for the second of the two, despite my disdain for Ayew and Kristiansen. Simply because I feel the way we have played football in the last few seasons has gone away from its roots and perhaps going back to basics is what we need.

If either of those teams went out and got the result, we wouldnt be looking at any of this as a negative, as a fan, that's all my opinion concerns

Cannot believe what has happened to us.

Its unfathomable how far we've fallen that this is a pretty common feeling among fans.

Missing games because of how bad we are is one thing, but to feel complete apathy about doing so - even not bothering with watching on tv/strm etc - shows just how much the passion has been sapped from the club and fans.

If it wasn't for FoxesTalk I'd have forgotten when this fixture was even being played...

Looking at the available tickets on the site there are literally thousands available all over , even in L1 where there are normally none.

That's how I used to feel in the Levine era. I'd feel this dread welling up in the pit of my stomach and start to look for excuses not to go.

I’ll probably go as I missed a few games around Xmas and I am sympathetic to Andy King’s predicament with the club and players letting him down. Totally understand those having a night off
