CarolinaFox Posted 21 May Posted 21 May (edited) I wonder if Mccarron would look at someone like Alexander Blessin at St. Pauli. He could be a sleeper pick. And before anyone knocks him - his overall resume is promising, St. Pauli have one of the smallest budgets in the Bundesliga. Had a great defensive record with St. Pauli last year, has previously won the Belgian league and the cup. He's worked with smaller budgets, thrives in the type of environment Mccarron comes from. He would make us really hard to play against in a physical league. Edited 21 May by CarolinaFox 4

winteriscoming Posted 21 May Posted 21 May Forget Southampton and spying it’s much worse in France. Toulouse finished their season at the weekend and have got rid of the manager Carles Martínez Novell and replaced him with the Motherwell manager. All this happening within a few days. Do Toulouse not realise you can’t be this proactive and you have to piss about over the summer to get a manager in? I don’t think we have a chance of getting him but I’d like us to go for Novell.
LCFCCKEANO Posted 21 May Posted 21 May Maybe we were waiting for Bristol to choose and we are getting the spare aka Skubala… we can dream

That's understandable, but if the club prioritizes getting it done quickly over getting the best candidate we'll just end up sacking again by October. Or because appointing quickly might show we actually have a plan rather than just winging it and still end up appointing someone ****ing useless but don't end up sacking until its too late.

21st Century Fox Posted 21 May Posted 21 May The fact that even Lee Johnson seems like a catch right now is a stark ****ing reminder of how far we’ve fallen. 1

So expecting that now will always lead to disappointment as it's just never done. In terms of communication on the manager, what do you want? A statement saying we are still looking for a manager, would you actually be happy with them stating the blindingly obvious. I'd wager a rather large chunk of time has been spent figuring out our financial position, the new rules etc. Because we all know they aren't going to have planned for this. 3
john ridley Posted 22 May Posted 22 May Same old same old ,meanwhile at Sheff Wednesday with new owners the place is rocking ,no way we finish about them next season .
Dmitry Posted 22 May Posted 22 May As expected, Top and Rudkin have rolled up their sleeves and are working hard! Glad to be a fan in these exciting times. Rest assured, we are in good hands.

Well that's just not true. Basically every L1/L2 club has down their retained list which is understandable as the decision to keep players is a bit more straightforward, but something like 18 championship clubs have done theirs. We've famously not even done retained lists in the past. No point getting wound up about it but yet another organisational failure. Any statement now would probably incite more angst but that's only because they've said nothing as per usual. The only scenario where the silence is justified is that they offered Rowett the job in the first week or so and they're waiting on him to make a decision. No other reason makes sense. Personally I'd rather they just focused on getting a manager/team in place that can deliver success, regardless of the financial implications. You're right in that they won't have planned for it, but do you really think 2 months is going to be enough for these clowns to devise a robust plan to manage things financially? They couldn't do it if they were given 2 years. Ultimately, these issues are just repeated failures so at this stage, little point getting overly emotional about it. But to almost suggest that it shouldn't cause some frustration because it's how it's always been/currently is, is wrong.

But to almost suggest that it shouldn't cause some frustration because it's how it's always been/currently is, is wrong. The fixation with the retained list is bizarre. All it will show is which players remain under contract, which we already know. It's mildly interesting to see which academy players have been let go, but apart from that it's always bit of a non-event—and in previous years has been regarded as such. It's weird how this year it's become such a big thing for some people. Rowett was pitching hard for the job in the last few weeks of the season. If he'd been offered it, he'd have accepted it and we'd know by now. The reason the club hasn't announced that he's leaving is because they're clearly not 100% confident they'll get somebody better in and are keeping Rowett in the background as a back-up plan, which is worrying but not surprising. This managerial appointment is absolutely massive for the club. Get it wrong and the consequences could be very serious. IF the delay is because they're working hard to bring in the best possible candidate, I'm ok with that. If we have to wait until July and it ends up being Russell Martin, I will be very much not ok with it. Edited 22 May by ClaphamFox 7
winteriscoming Posted 22 May Posted 22 May I doubt that they are but they could be waiting to see who goes up from the league 1 play off final. Either Challinor or Schumacher would imo be a decent appointment.

Ruud's "sacking" wasn't even official until the end of June! 1
