Fact of the matter is if we offer Challinor the same "lucrative" offer (whatever the value is) that we've made to Brussell he would be here by now.

It sounds like he worked under a very well run club at Stockport so despite the financial package on offer he might have said no regardless

I wouldn't put it past this lot to go for Martin, it's felt inevitable since May 2023 that he'd one day end up here. However, someone very reliable does not think we've even spoken to him this time around so I hope it stays that way.

I find Brussell obnoxious and unbearable to listen to.

great mrs with cracking funbags though.... so.... every cloud?

Poor woman has to listen to Russel bang on about how quality his football is whilst the team gets spanked every week.

What is it about RM that makes him an obvious choice for the chuckle brothers?

If they are still persistent on wanting a possession obsessive system to look like a poundland Man City, then Russell Martin will always be near the top of the list.

Getting in McCarron from a City Group background rang alarm bells for me.

I hope they prove me wrong, but even if it doesn’t end up being Martin, then I just see a boring possession based manager still coming in.

Martin was given the opportunity at Rangers for some sort of redemption and change his style of play.
He didn’t and his arrogance and ego only knows one way of playing.
Genuinely dread to think if he comes to us how bad defensively we’ll be.
If you think it was bad last season it’ll get a whole lot worse with him if he joins.
My only hope is that Martin’s ego won’t entertain joining a club in league 1.

I had no idea Alan Nixon was such a sensitive soul, but it seems he doesn't take kindly to having his credibility questioned.

Nixon is sometimes right, but often wrong. That's the price of publishing stories that are essentially gossip he's heard from an agent rather than from somebody connected to the club. While he's the only one reporting it, there is still a good chance it's not true. Let's just hope the sky remains clear of unexpected Percy bombs...

“ OK Jon which managerial appointment will most annoy those ungrateful MF supporters?”

” Russell Martin, sir. No question “

” Sign the c**t . Pay him whatever he wants”

We have no money though Aiyawatt and the doughnuts have gone stale, give him copious amounts of Chang, Jon

Recently there’s been a name that comes from nowhere.
I’m still hopeful it’ll be someone other than Martin.
Having said that look at our recent appointments - Cooper, RVN, Cifuentes and Rowett it doesn’t give me much hope.
Top and Rudkin have a way of finding someone worse than the previous manager.

He's always been very thin-skinned for someone who essentially posts a tonne of rubbish to tease rabid online football fans

Bear in mind Martin was going round telling people that he was being appointed here, last summer I think it was. Wouldn't suprise me at all if he was doing it again to keep his name in people's minds.

It's almost not about whether he'd get us out of League One, it's the bigger picture. Our fans were calling him a willy puller at Bournemouth two years ago. He plays a style of play that is clearly detested by the majority of our fans and isn't very scalable. It might be ok in League One, but the minute our squad isn't better than the rest of the league, it all comes crashing down.

At a time when one of the clubs main objectives should be reconnecting with the fans and trying to build some form of hope for the future, why would you do that? Why would you create an uphill battle before we have even started by hiring a deeply unpopular manager? Have they learnt nothing from Cooper?

I would question whether our squad is any better than the others in L1 given the amount of turnover we will experience this summer.

4-2-3-1 slow possession based football has been proven (by us) not to work in any division unless you genuinely outclass the opposition playerwise, and have a coach that actually knows how to coach it.

L1, like the championship, is a very physical league and if we continue our style of play, every club will just sit back against us, soak up our ‘pass it slowly around the back’ play, and beat us with a corner in the 80th minute.

Since the last season of Rodger’s spell at the club the style of play hasn’t worked, it was only when we had Enzo and PL quality players in the championship that it did work.

Brussels isn’t Enzo, and we have L1 quality players at best next season - it will be a train wreck if we insist on appointing someone to play a style of football that has seen us relegated 3 times in the last 4 seasons

We need a complete reset of style and players, like when Pearson came in last time and rebuilt the squad

Is this a bit of a gut feel/what you are hoping for?

There's certainly logic to it and I hope you are right!

Im also hoping your contact is correct on RM. Id been told the opposite that we have spoken to him and he is the one we want, this was by someone that works at forest so they may have just been rage baiting me as my feeling on Martin are well known haha.

Like you say in your previous post, I do feel like RM is inevitable, we have been wanting him for a while, my hope is they are giving Mccaron the choice or at least a large say in it, without him I am 100% convinced we throw everything at Martin.

For what its worth I think Martin could get us promoted, but it would be more on the basis it was harder not to, given the squad we would likely have for league one. But then as the standard of the league increases he becomes more exposed.

I just want to know now so I can come to terms with it either way, we've got so much to do and little time to waste now.

My brother, who lives in Arbroath and is an Aberdeen season ticket holder, tells me that the word up there is that you're  right

If it’s a straight shoot out between Martin and Thelin , Rudkin is going to favour Martin unfortunately , Thelin will be perceived as a gamble having never managed in the England before.

That’s assuming Rudkin has final say. I’m not convinced he will.
