Sadly not a chance we bin off this inept excuse for a leader based on the financial disaster impending. This season includes administration and ends with us falling into league two without new ownership.

Feel like I'm going mad here because I keep seeing this opinion on how he dresses and how it makes him "look like a slob / homeless"

There's absolutely nothing wrong with his clothes?

I don't particularly care one way or another (he can wear what he wants) but his outfit is giving "bloke you hired off gumtree to redo the pointing on your back garden wall"

I won’t be happy unless he starts tucking his trousers into his socks like MON

If we break it down into three zones, top half, legs and feet, Brussel dresses 33% identically to big Nige.

Not bad if you think about it.

Even the way Russel claps is pathetic.  Get rid of him.

Yes but Russell Martin’s sides average around 70% possession.

Not arsed how the manager dresses. I wouldn’t mind a manager who wins more than 1 game a year though. I know a lot of our fans won’t feel the same and think that will be entitled of me but just my opinion like.

The clothes matter, the way he dresses is emblematic of his last of respect to the club and his arrogance.

Wear club branded trackies or a suit, show some basic respect for your job and what it entails. I do not turn up to my place of work in uber stylish baggies clothes it’s not appropriate.

He managed to piss of rangers fans by breaking a tradition he would have been briefed about on day one. A complete tool from football management to sartorial choices.

But would it be an issue had he won all of his last games?

It will never happen because our club never communicates in this way, but I would be genuinely fascinated to hear Top, Rudkin or McCarron come out and explain the logic behind appointing Martin. Our problems of recent years have been clear to anybody who has watched us: mental fragility/low confidence, leading to chronic defensive frailty and an unerring tendency for heads to drop the moment anything goes wrong. We’ve been absolutely terrible at preventing other teams from scoring goals against us.

Likewise, Russell Martin’s record as a coach is there for anybody to see: in each of his four full seasons in the EFL with MK Dons, Swansea and Southampton, his teams conceded more than 60 goals. When he was sacked by Southampton they’d conceded 36 goals in 16 PL games and Rangers had managed only one clean sheet in seven when they sacked him. In other words: Russell Martin has never shown any ability to coach a defence. Not once.

Most people would look at our problems of recent seasons and conclude that we needed a manager with a proven track record of organising a defence, instilling psychological robustness and being pragmatic enough to change things when it’s not working. Yet we appointed Russell Martin, who does not bring any of those things. Just how did our board conclude that he was the man to solve our problems? Are they in possession of some secret knowledge unavailable to us mere mortals? If so, are they willing to share any of it with us?

Spot on analysis ClaphamFox. I think there is a simple answer to this head scratching appointment is Top is obsessed with possession based football and saw Russell as the natural appointment. Anyone, and I mean anyone, with a modicum of knowledge of modern English football knew this would be a catastrophe. To remain where he is for so long Rudkin has been the arse kisser extraordinaire and would no doubt present analysis of Russell’s strengths and minimise his limitations.

Urgh, how far we have fallen. This charlatan hasn't even earned the right to be *compared* to Nige, let alone occupy the same space on a page!

There are lots of ways to do a job, but some ways are just more 'right' than others

It does make me wonder who they'll choose when he is sacked. Martin is the ultimate possession football coach—he's even more of a purist than Pep, who is actually quite pragmatic and adaptable in that he regularly changes tactics. There is no other manager whose commitment to possession football matches that of Martin, so some sort of compromise will be necessary. A complete volte face to an anti-Martin manager seems unlikely, so it will likely be another manager who likes to dominate the ball but who is also pragmatic enough to use tactics that actually work. The most obvious candidate is Dave Challinor, who many of us wanted in the summer. But I imagine Top would probably try to get Scott Parker instead.

Conor Hourihane, the cheap option.

Yep, especially if they are edging closer to the exit. Why would anyone down there make any effort? Rudkin knows he's out the door as soon as King Power are.

I heard he only borrows the trainers , i make that around 68% possession stats that i am sure he is very happy with.

This is the thing for me. I have nothing against Russell Martin per se. I have nothing against possession football per se (indeed we saw it work under Maresca, Rodgers and at countless other clubs).

The problem is, the appointment of Martin, indicated that 1) the club had no interest in addressing our most obvious weakness of the last 4 years and 2) as a deliberate strategic choice, they wanted to continue to implement the style of football which has disastrously resulted in 3 relegations in 4 years.

Further to this:

Leicester over 24/25 (Cooper, RVN) and 25/26 (Cifuentes, Rowett) have conceded 148 goals in 84 league games. 1.76 goals per game.

Russell Martin has conceded 395 goals in 276 games as manager. 1.43 goals per game.

It's a criminal appointment on the most basic level
