I just don’t think it was the right appointment as there is no longevity to it. Martin has proven across his entire career that he’s a middle to lower Championship manager. He’ll probably get promotion this season, which in itself is no real achievement.

However, he’ll unlikely get promotion from the Championship and even in the remote possibility he does, he’s totally unfit for the PL.

Why not appoint someone up and coming who could grow with the club and will come in without supporters having preconceived ideas about? Allowing positivity from day 1 and the ability to build a healthy culture.

The ownership are too obsessed with a brand of football that successive appointments (Rogers, Maresca, Martin) have led to failure after failure. Ironically, a completely different style to what saw success.

I agree and it's just Rudkin and this pathetic ownership in a nutshell. They have doubled down when everyone can see the real issues.

I hope Martin does well. I would take just getting out this league and him leaving but I just don't see how we get away from this style until the man baby Top leaves.

Good luck with that, confident in your fantasy are you?

Not really. We don’t want him, he’s no good, he’ll never be successful here, he’ll never be liked and rightly so. Pretty straightforward stuff.

If I’m wrong and he takes us into Europe with exciting attacking football you can gloat all you like.

But what’s really going to happen is: we’ll play depressing football under Martin, he’ll be insufferable and arrogant about it, he’ll be sacked long, long after it’s clear we’re not getting better, we won’t be in the Premier League when it happens and we’ll continue to have our own fans telling us it’s fine and Forest are a one of the biggest clubs in England.

Meanwhile at this point you’ll either be conspicuous by your absence on this forum or pretending you never said all the things you’ve said.

I’ve seen it all before, I’d rather not see it again.

I'm confident that my "fantasy" is more realistic than him being hounded out within the next few weeks and resigning because of a few people booing in the stands, yes, if that helps. I didn't really want him here either, never really liked him.

There'll be no pretending or absence from me. I've just given an opinion that I think it's brain-dead to be booing a manager after the FIRST game of the season in which you've not even lost and that perhaps given the adequate tools to carry out his requests that we might actually be successful this season.

So you have the option of hiring a manager who has over a 50% win rate Challinor - granted in this division and lower or Martin with a 38% win rate and hasn’t finished hire than 10th in this league.
It’s so obvious but we hire Martin.
As already stated nothing changes until Top and Rudkin go.

Challinor wasn't an option, I'm not sure how many more times this needs to be said before it hits home 😂

I'm amazed that Top, who witnessed us achieving the impossible, by playing fast and direct football, has become so obsessed with this slow, possession nonsense. We all know what's going to happen, Russell is going to get the sack. The only question is in which league, this one or the Champ.

It’s not the right time or place for weird experience, this idea of trying Bobnaldo and Cullen needs to die quickly, it’s frankly ridiculous, pound for pound that team shouldn’t have lost today, but the way we’re trying to play is hindering us, and it will continue to do so.

I'm glad. I hope we continue to try to play in that manner and replace the centre backs and pivot in the team with players of that skill set so that we're able to carry out his instructions and coaching properly.

We're going to be left with at least one of Souttar, Okoli or Faes, if not two of them most likely. I also would love a whole new keeper and defender situation. Not going to happen. So what now?

Going to be a slow burner. Give him a chance FFS. Those booing need ejected immediately at the min.

Piss off mate (sorry, but you, and the other happy clappers are part of what's wrong).

I didn't want him, the majority of sensible posters on here didn't want him. We all saw what he achieved at Southampton and Rangers. The sweet sum of fvck all.

We'll be here for quite a while, probably for as long as he is our "manager".

His credentials are disturbingly poor.

I guess he came cheap.

I own this club, you'll do as I say.

I can see RM at the final interview stage on his knees wanking him off to get the job.

A win against Northampton, a draw against Notts County, Russell is well on course for a Southampton like 25 game unbeaten run.

And so the cycle continues. The fanbase must also bear the responsibility in some way, shape or form if they're not able to show even a modicum of patience and it translates to brainless booing and toxicity. If the toxicity and booing is earned like it was the last 2 seasons, absolutely, go for it.

I agree to a degree but the owners and board knew this and still went ahead of appointed him anyway. Is this their final act before selling us? If so, you can't help but wonder if this is punishment or something.

Who knows? The sooner they're gone the better, which I'm sure is something that we can all agree on.

My worry is that he has such a set style of play but we just don’t have the players.

A good manager would start with the play to our strengths and look to plug the weaknesses either through new personnel or tactics.

All this player learning BS is nonsense especially when you look at the squad and the position we’re in

Maybe he wasn’t but I would have liked us to at least approach him.

Patience?

Fans are at the end of their tether after years of scarcely believable mismanagement.  This appointment of a busted flush anti-football manager was yet another insult.

Not sure that he has. Although he would've signed it off, his advisor and mentor has given the steer.

I hope that we're successful under Martin and that we get promoted without him having to resign. I also hope that we're able to properly compete in the Championship the following season with (hopefully) new ownership, preferably still under the same manager if he's been successful in getting us promoted. Therein lies the difference though. You've outwardly expressed a desire for us to fail, because Martin is the manager. I want us to be successful despite the fact that he's our manager.

I also want us to be successful but still cannot fathom the reasoning behind this appointment. I'd happily take promotion and more with Martin but feel his footballing ethos is a recipe for disaster at thus level. Other teams are going to pick us off whilst we are dithering about.

Hope im wrong!
