Are we the only club in the world who allows transfer negotiations with our players before a fee is agreed? So many times the player sorts out a move and then there are protracted talks over the fee. Obviously, it puts us in a weak negotiating position as the player has his bags packed and the buying club has the press conference organised and we end up causing ill feeling (with the player and other clubs) by pulling the plug or by constantly getting diddled (causing ill will with the fanbase).

Nelson was our best centre back last season (admittedly not saying much) and his talent has not been nurtured at the club - a fact that will not have gone unnoticed by other Academy players.

We do it too....

They have actually spent a bit of money the past few seasons

But we all know exactly what kind of offer we will get from them

I would love to keep him but I know that isn’t realistic so hopefully when Torino actually bid for him it brings some other clubs out for him, would be a very smart pick up for a lot of clubs

It’s more common for the players to agree terms first as club to club negotiations usually take longer.

Also makes more sense, as clubs then don’t spend ages negotiating over a transfer fee for a player that doesn’t want to leave/join that club.

Over to you @Ric Flair

I think for me it’s probably how we’ve not an environment where we’ve enabled him to flourish. He’s been thrown in with a bunch of willy pullers and it’s probably rubbed off on him a bit.

I think that applies to all of our good young prospects over the last few years.

What have we got at the moment to help the final development stage for our promising youngsters?

An inability to secure suitable loans, an unwillingness to integrate them into our playing squad, and a training and playing environment which doesn't nurture them (lack of fitness, low standards, poor discipline, bad on-field management etc).

One year left on contract.

We're in League One.

We 'need' to sell.

Turning 23 this year and hasn't exactly ripped it up.

He's not worth close to £5m. If they were to offer £3m he's probably gone.

Probably about fair, even though I think he'd have had offers north of that last summer had we been open to it. But Ronnie Edwards was sold for only £3m from League One with similar potential and experience of both Championship, lower leagues and England up to U21s.

Hopefully we hold out for £5m and a big sell on but we won't.

Had positive loans at each club he’s been at, even in the same league we were in last year but gets into our team and gets progressively worse the more he plays.

I know exactly what’ll happen when he leaves.

Imagine a world where he was paired with Souttar all last season, rather than him being stuck next to players who can’t defend

I can’t believe we’re considering selling him, I must rate him higher than the club or FT!

unless hes willing and wanting to sign a new deal here...and on reasonable terms, the club have to/will consider selling him because hes a sellible asset and rather losing him on a free,

and Nelson being a youth product it will be pure profit

Says in the article

“The Foxes in fact have between 6 and 7 million euros, a figure that the Granata are not willing to spend. No offers have yet arrived.”

Is that saying our asking price is 6-7m euros?

No.

It means we only have between 6-7m euros in the bank and Rudkin, using Google Translate (after pretending to Top that he can speak Italian), has somehow managed to cook up a deal where the Granata (Torino) would be able to spend that on our behalf.

Luckily, they feel sorry for us and are not prepared to do that.

Good luck to Ben !
Why waste your time at the Mickey Mouse Circus club

He’ll be back in the Premier League before long when the potential is realised

Another one that will bite us on the A** which is no surprise anymore

Italian clubs are horrible to deal with. They'll offer you 50% of the asking price and won't give you it for 5 years.

Yh they were a nightmare to deal with on Dennis Praet and Victor Kristiansen.

...actually perhaps they were just being sensible not matching our asking price for rubbish players.

If only we'd been more like Italian teams for the majority of our signings for the last 5 years...

Not sure the other examples of dealing with Italian clubs are hugely relevant here.

The likes of Praet and Kristiansen were overpaid both in terms of fees (and what we’d have needed to cover our losses) and on wages they weren’t worth. So the Italians just got a season out of them and sent them back.

Whatever people think, Nelson is a young and more desirable prospect whose wages will be very reasonable. With no fee spent either, the conditions will be better for a Torino type to offer us an amount we will have to accept with a year left or lose him for free.
