Good to see Ayew take his club form into the world cup. That has given him a great platform to get a good move somewhere......

Think Leicester would benefit from having a foul seeking statue as striker!!! Should offer 20 million

Cape Verde almost made me love football again for 120 minutes there. What a team.

Played Spain, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and Argentina and unbeaten in 90 minutes in all those games.

Switzerland vs. Colombia AGAIN, 32 years later, this time in the Best-of-16.

Well, the Swiss better step up their game, because I don't want to see another 2-0 defeat.

At least no Colombia own-goals this time around...

No.  This argument is based on a foundation that happens to be WRONG/INCORRECT/INACCURATE, and that's a problem, considering how common it is, from many people, including some football players and managers that should know better.

The Football World Cup does NOT exist to be the limited elite of the elite tournament for football according to, and on behalf of, FIFA itself.  It was created specifically to be a greater, more inclusive tournament from the original that WAS such a thing, and is still considered by FIFA to be so: The Olympics.

As such, the MAIN goal of the football world cup for FIFA, is to increase the level and amount of professionalism of world football, and give more opportunites for such players at national level.  David vs Goliath matches are SPECIFICALLY the type of thing FIFA is after.

As such, increasing the number of teams at the Football World Cup has always been a goal of theirs once enough professional players and teams are ready for it, unlike the Olympics.

As such, the only things FIFA has ever taken into account for zise and scope of the tournmanet has been the professionalism of the teams and logistics.

EDIT: Of course, problems caused by having multiple host countries that then automatically qualify is a matter all to itself.

This is all well and good but doesn't address the point of this tournament being bloated whatsoever. There was no high wire element to any of the group stage because ultimately most sides were aware they could drop points and go through – if you give every side a safety net in the group stage then it becomes a pretty jeopardy-less affair.

I would also argue about FIFA's intentions when it comes to make the tournament larger. I highly doubt it's driven by a strong desire to be more inclusive or break any elitist glass ceiling – I don't even think they try to hide their desperate cash grabs any more.

Just catching up on the highlights. Can't believe I didn't stay up for the Cape Verde game!

It was unbelievable, they were genuinely unlucky to go out. Unbeaten in 90 mins vs the world and European champions during this competition.

the Swiss are quietly going under the radar, don’t think they have anyone to fear tbh.

That Ghana goalkeeper Zigi looks tidy. MOTM against Colombia imho.

Sign him up. Won't be expensive, either.

It’s Vozinha or nothing I’m afraid. Don’t care that hes older than Chris Weale, he’s class.

To be fair for us Africa watchers they’ve been decent for a few years now. Their government will be buzzing, it’s a beautiful country and their tourism will go off the scale.

Just catching up on the Argie highlights, let's apply the England Foxestalk principles to this shall we!

- Cape Verde deserved to win because their players are worse

- Argentina will lose the second they play a "good team"

- Argentinian fans and players should be embarrassed celebrating their goals and the win because Cape Verde are bad.

Anything I've missed?
