Got the ball first. Even if just a slight touch technically makes it not a penalty. They could have checked the technology in the ball to check for the touch too

How do you know they didn't?

Even there's a touch, and there isn't, the follow through was a foul.

It's a penalty, the slightest of touches shouldn't stop it being a foul.

Anyway, awful penalty. How is he taking the penalty lol

What??

If the slightest of touches means a goal gets called offside despite having no tangible consequence (Croatia), then why is the penalty given here when the consequence is that the ball gets pushed further away from the attacker (i.e. consequential)?

Because he was nowhere near the ball. Stone wall pen.

He clearly was when he touches the ball. He would've touched it even more if Cunha hadn't touched it first.

No idea why they didn’t bother showing the ref the angle where he got the ball. Still potentially a penalty, but seems like a terrible process

The angle was very conclusive. You can see the ball change spin and direction with the angle he was shown, no problem.

Stutter stop gives a huge advantage to the keeper. Won’t be long before coaches start banning them.

The thing I don’t understand is when the striker is obviously waiting for the keeper to go down (Mbappe last night) and the keeper goes down anyway.

That’s the problem, it’s not transparent so we can’t be sure they did. We can’t just assume they’re honest!

Also can't assume dishonesty. Hung jury

From other angles you can see there's no touch on the ball

On every replay they showed here, you could clearly see the spin and direction change :dunno:

Brazil with absolutely zero intention to press in the opposing half, just stood still. Nor do they seem interested in having the ball… 27% possession.

it’s like watching Ghana vs England 🤣
