Long Eaton Fox Posted 22 July Posted 22 July I like how the team is progressing with the academy players but feel we need some more steel through the spine of the team. A strong powerful CM and CF is required and CB if players leave.
Bert Posted 22 July Posted 22 July From what I seen, which was mainly the second half we seemed to put some nice passages of play together. Look fit, pressed well. 2

Popular Post adejo92 Posted 22 July Popular Post Posted 22 July Can't really give much insight into the game, bits i saw were sh1t .. However... Every single one of the players and manager came over, thanked us for coming and had photos with us. All had a laugh and seemed genuinely down to earth. Feel harsh saying anything negative after how they were with us post game. 31

Popular Post ALC Fox Posted 22 July Popular Post Posted 22 July I tell you what but after the last four seasons I cannot emphasise how absolutely ready I am for an academy number 9 to come through and tear it up. A really great start for Kirsten and puts him in pole position for that starting berth at the beginning of the season. If we can't get a deal over the line for a more experienced option by the start of the season, he has a brilliant chance to stake a claim. I hope he takes it like he's taken his pre-season goals. I'm trying not to contribute to putting too much pressure on him but I'm excited. 6

Yeah said it for ages now and the lack of height, it limits our options. Braybrooke and Alves look so confident and strong together finally, waited years for a pre-season where they look the part. Probably what's happening now with Evans, it can take a few years even if they appear like they ought to be able to compete. 4

I think we've not made it easy for Evans where he's pretty much always played with a weaker midfield behind him. Is Otchere really better than him or benefiting from being around better players? Riley Carr was also quiet today who previously looked very impressive when he had quality players feeding him the ball. I think Evans would look better playing with Alves, Braybrooke and Page. 1
Popular Post brookfox Posted 22 July Popular Post Posted 22 July Thought we looked neat and tidy but really need some pace and power down the spine. Big 6’+ forward and a CM in the mould of Ndidi and some pace down the wings would transform us particularly in the tight scrappy games we’ll inevitably be in. 6

Yeah there's definitely mileage in that, i've always thought that some of these players can be complimented/carried with much better players around them than try an emerge/improve on loan in a team with less quality. Evans in League One behind a decent striker or at RW with the midfield of Page and Braybrooke and Alves in there and our most effective defence will be absolutely fine. Kevin Nolan raved about how he'll be the best player in League One or something to that effect. He needs to take his chances by the scruff of the neck though and maybe if he doesn't i would rather he gets minutes on loan until Jan at least.

In theory he is still the best goal scorer at the club and with the club looking at signings like Ings there's no guarantee that will change. I think it's a very typical outcome of the "you have to take your opportunities" approach that you end up with players like Otchere, Silko Thomas and Mcateer breaking through who managed to show up on the day whereas players like Evans who you would expect to contribute more over the course of the season get left on the sidelines. GingerrrFox Posted 23 July Posted 23 July If Mavididi is intent on moving on, it’s time to give Evans a chance to play more with the majority of players from the 2nd half team. Play him on the right and Alves on the left.

I was convinced Mavididi would end up in Saudi this summer but I fear we'll get to end of August and he'll be here looking and acting very fed up and we will panic and he'll be loaned out for nowt more than the coverage of his wages.
brookfox Posted 23 July Posted 23 July You can see how the tactics will lead to goals conceded. We played some very risky balls out from and across the back and on a few occasions they were attacking vs just our two CBs. Couldn’t quite work out the role of our full backs but it definitely wasn’t to sit in a flat back four!
Rubbersoul Posted 23 July Posted 23 July I know he got the assist but I thought Mavididi was so poor. 2

As long as we put score them, I think we’ve got to sort of accept we’ll get a few brain fart moments.
