and Reid started the last pre season game, with Chaplin out, Bobby with Cullen in behind was always going to happen, especially over Hutchinson who’s played 0 minutes as a centre forward for us in pre season

Luke Thomas could play as a striker as well.

Thomas and Mavididi is the least effective pairing one could imagine, weird how they’re still put together. They somehow combine to create no goals and make our left side weak as ****.

Cullen and BDCR will interchange I’d imagine. It looks like Russell is planning on using a fairly fluid forward line. 
 

Will be x2 of Cullen, Chaplin, BDCR and Bristrić up top. 
 

And then x2 of Alves, Mavididi, Watson and Burns on the wings. 
 

And then x2 of Page, Braybrooke, Hamza and Skipp at CM.

I mean, seven of the XI starting today were first team regulars during maybe our worst season ever. Despite getting rid of most and signing a lot of new players, we've only put ONE new signing in the starting line up along three Academy products. I would've expected more changes honestly.

The way we've played pre-season I wouldn't expect any of these players to be fixed to their positions - i think you'll see cullen push up, reid drop deep, alves com inside etc etc.

 

His set up was very fluid, players switching and covering, even the FBs

They were odds on to start given that, respectively, their alternates were a guy who's been here a week, and a guy who hasn't signed yet.

 

Doesn't mean they're nailed on to start or even play every game.

Considering there is no Chaplin, Burns, Bristric, McFarlane in that squad, it's not a piss poor starting 11. It has a 4231 shape to it with people playing the right positions. I'd have thought the below. With the ability for Alves, BDR and Cullen to switch positions and hopefully be quite fluid if they can get things going.
