No, I don’t know him. So when a report comes out saying that he has left Stockport and is taking time with his family, I choose to believe it, rather than assume that he’s lying.

Not sure if this was mentioned elsewhere but did anyone else notice Okoli almost passing out at FT? Watch him @9:20 when the final cross goes in for the final whistle, he crouches down, then seemingly nearly passes out and falls over, I was going to joke about his balance but that looked a bit concerning, dehydrated maybe?

Didn’t look too good at all, reminded me of myself after 20 minutes on the cross trainer on a Monday morning.

I appreciate that this is what he’s been asked to do by his manager, but for whatever reason this condenses play in the midfield. He hardly loses the ball because almost every one is a safe pass sideways or backwards. In my opinion, he has been fortunate to keep his place because we have not had an alternative. Let’s see what happens when the Man City loanee gets up to speed

Do you not ask yourself though, if a large number of people who whilst not experts, but who watch a lot of football for years/decades as enjoyment, can see certain things that are constantly caused us problems on the pitch, why are the guys we are actually employing to be football geniuses, the managers, not capable of addressing things?

 

Again, not anything to do with yesterday or Martin. I wasn’t happy with his appointment but will give him time as I think he has one hand tied behind his back due to the striker and centre back situation. But our recent string of managers up to now have hardly covered themselves in glory unless you disagree with that?

It's bizarre because it is both high risk and zero risk at the same time.

 

High risk - piss around with the ball around your 18 yard box with your worst passers until you lose it.

 

Zero risk - don't take the defence splitting pass, don't pass forwards to create something, pass it sideways or backwards just to keep possession

That looked really worrying. Noticed the camera panned away fairly quickly when he fell as well. I hope he’s ok and it was just a bit of dehydration, like you say.

I think that Leicester, even at its lowest ebb being a much bigger draw than Stockport might well have tempted him.  You asked me to name one so I did, but if not him then there are literally 100 options I'd take before Russell f***ing Martin. The rest of the football world is laughing at us.

 

 After he fails here, I believe this will be his last chance in league football.  He'll end up at Dagenham or somewhere, ike Peter Taylor.

There’s a hell of a lot to improve on before next weekend, I just don’t trust this lot to get it right. 

It could’ve been any game from last season.  Why have one quick pass to an unmarked player when you can take 6 between Skipp and the CBs before Thomas instantly sends it back. The left side needs to be replaced otherwise there is no point even passing to that part of the pitch. 

 

Lots of passing to the feet standing still and then having to turn as well as beat a man so it gets sent back.  It’s like they aren’t allowed to pass and move into space. 

 

The same poor slow passing Okoli, yet another manager that keeps him as the focus of playing out the back.  Is it hubris that makes them think they will be the one to make him good.  He did his usual pass out the back under no pressure directly to an unmarked opposition. 

 

Mavadidi, Reid and Thomas playing exactly the same way. Skipp floating around with zero impact.  So many times the winger on the right was open but the focus would be on short passes into a busy area just to be pinged back. 
 

The youngsters and new guys are hampered by the slow play and revert to type.  Anytime they try to get going it’s too high up the pitch and the defence are locked in.

Very early days but some worrying signs.

 

Keeper and centre backs who aren't good at playing out from the back will be punished against stronger opposition. Weak central midfield and zero threat in attack. Whole team played at a pedestrian tempo.

 

At the same time, worth recognising the positives. Been a while since we ground out an ugly win while suffocating a game. Debutants got their minutes and we were defensively ok when they had the ball.

As others have said, I thought we were pretty terrible but I think it will look quite different come the end of the transfer window.

 

Souttar- way too good at this level as a defender and he knows it. He’ll be off

Okoli- a worry for me, you’d think someone would take him but if he stays and plays we are in trouble.

Thomas- utterly shit at everything, won’t be sold but the young lad on loan will hopefully start

Mavididi- hopefully will have ****ed off, pretty sure he won’t be starting. He either doesn’t want to be here or is just complete dog shit

BDCR- clearly will be here, but will likely play as a number 10

 

I believe, and this is more hope, that some of them players only started for Brussel to either give them a chance to fail, which clearly most of the above did, or to send a message to those above that they aren’t what we need. But if they are still here, and starting, we are ****ed.

Really hope I'm wrong but the way he's leaving the captaincy decision until end of August just feels like straight away we are having the excuses lined up for the narrative that everything is so up in the air. 

 

You can still prioritise those who you know will be here and that will still be the strongest team in the league. Giving a player the captaincy when you think he could be off, playing Mavididi and Reid etc. Like I say I hope I'm way off but it feels like all the things Marti was doing and we seen how that turned out. 

 

In his defence I feel like he has much more of a buy in than Marti ever did. I think even the players that are leaving are doing so just because of the clubs level and still rate Martin. Where as before we had so many who just missed Enzo and thought every manager we employed was utter shit.

The problem is that we don’t have players that are comfortable on the ball and can control a game at the back or even in midfield. Okoli has some good qualities such as his pace but if he stays in the side needs to be protected by someone reliable which didn’t happen with Souttar being not up to speed. I know Winks and Vesty have left but for all the criticism they are more suited to Martin’s style. Need a couple of quality players in and the same up front but can’t see it happening. Really interested to see what happens v Notts as they will certainly press and even against the cobblers Leicester looked shaky.

I dont understand People on here that get mad about other People having an opinion, especially if its a negative one. Its a fans forum, its exactly the purpose of this place, for people to vent and have opinions on all things LCFC. Slating the performance yesterday is absolutely fine, as many fans are rightly worried about how we are looking going into a new season. Its also fine for people to find positives in yesterdays performance, its all about opinions. Far too much holier than thou and getting up on high horses crap on here recently.

I think the opposite. Too many of these over paid wasters have had it too easy for too long! The should be absolutely hounded. Mavididi and Faes in particular are an absolute disgrace and should never wear our shirt again. Im not fussed about Thomas, he has limited ability but at least he gives his all which cannot be said for the other 2 mentioned. Hamza doesn't deserve the wage he gets but thats not his fault and we all know who is to blame for the obscene contracts given out.

It’s obvious that RM has a style of play and our defence is nowhere near good enough to play that style. 
 

Neither of those things are going to change in the near future. There needs to be a bit less passing it around our penalty area and a bit more finding a midfielder or getting it out on the wing.

This is where a pragmatic manager would employ tactics that suit the players at his disposal. Unfortunately Martin is a one trick pony which is why so many were dead against him as he not the right manager for our situation. Hope im proved wrong but I just cant see how this will play out well for us.
