I do think his all round game is lacking but he will score goals, in decent positions and often puts them away. Think if we had a decent manager he'd get 25+.

I've not seen anyone say this yet, but absolutely no one should have the gall to suggest that no one could come in here and do better than Russell Martin. Despite some of the issues in this squad, we have something that any manager wanting to achieve promotion would die for, a 20+ goal a season striker.

Shame he was off the pitch for the penalty, a hat trick would have been nice, genuinely have no idea when the last one for one of our players was.

Fatawu v Southampton?

Thought Brussell was quite critical of him in his post match interview - yes, he spent about 3 mins wax lyrical over him, but there was a cutting comment about his performance V Luton where he openly said he was "disappointed" with him.

It's rare you hear a manager publicly criticise a player like that.

Maybe it's a bit of Brendan deflecting the blame from himself...

Think criticism about his hold up play is over critical. It’s better than the set of strikers we had last season. He will get 20 this season easy

It's nice to see hold up play that aims to bring those around him into play, even if he's not technically great. Compared to Ayew's, which was to either fall over and try to win a free kick, or trigger magnets in his boots that drew him to the nearest corner flag... it's just much better to watch regardless of the level of opposition.

For what it's worth, I saw more of that from Bristric too than the two clowns we had leading the line last year, he was linking up pretty well with Alves and Braybrooke when all three were playing. Riis just has a far better (and useful) knack for being in the right areas to get on the end of stuff, as he proved twice last night.

This is like reading the Yakubu thread …..

Big difference being that having Riis isn't like playing every minute with 10 men :D

He's dangerous and he works hard.

I agree that his all round game didn't look great last night, maybe the worst he's looked so far - And he still scored 2!

I like him, might be the first really good signing we've made for a while!

A basic striker and it is fine. He is in the box for crosses and moves to support the team. Touch and shooting at times is wayward but he will score goals and be a presence.

If we had 16 or 17 players that were just solid at their job, we’d be a functional team. We have loads of players that are “fluid in transition” and they’re all a bit, jack of all trades, master of none.

Seems to be genuinely putting the effort in, which is the first step of us actually dragging ourselves out of this mess and the rest of the players should be feeding off

Think he's the first player I actually like in our squad in the past 4 years

He's the one player who is delivering in the role we signed him for.

Which is why we need to dump the misfits in January and sign another proven striker who can lead the line and  score goals.

One injury to Riis and our season could be over.
