Martin appointment is the ultimate Top/Rudkin vanity project; it's already failed but let's see how long it takes for the penny to drop.

He appointed Jon Rudkin as our Director of Football, brains at the top of the club is bloody generous.

He wasn't aftaid to make the right calls, though.

I'm pretty sure Rudkin would no longer be in the top job if Vichai was still around.

It’s not 90% Rudkin as there are all the other problems such as the managers, players, scouts, fitness etc

Rudkin employs them! He negotiated their contracts, also the players who were on ridiculous money even in the prem, and half of them wouldnt even get regular slots at a championship club. Since the boss died, control of the running of the club was wheelam and rudkin, and wheelan seen sense.

And now its just rudder less rudkin

Tops the owner, he does not need to know about football. There is lots of owners that just take a back seat then make decisions like yes you can have so much, and sorry chairman, DOF results are not good enough, thank you for your service goodbye. However i dont think he knows how to do that either. Rudkin has been left to steer the ship for so long, and he has only every been awarded for his failures.

This is 90% on rudkin 10% on top and thats for not having the balls to pull the trigger.

Top to be blind to PSR rules and the like is odd so clearly he doesn’t have a clue how to run a football club. So yeah, I expect he would have left that to Rudkin and co, who they themselves aren’t very knowledgeable on how to run a club it’s just a mess really

Rudkin is the problem, he choses the manager, scouts and has a decision on players. How come the owners/DOF of clubs like Brighton, Bournemouth, Palace etc make great choices in choosing managers and getting in good players at the fraction on the price that the big clubs spend

By spunking ridiculous money for a club our size

Regardless of how it happened, we were successful after Vichai died. People point to his death as the turning point but I don’t think so.

A long long catalogue of errors. Off the field and on we’ve been appalling for a good few seasons, nobody learns from their mistakes and nobody is held accountable (bar managers) who come and go.
It’s all been discussed before.
Desperate is an understatement.

We won the FA Cup, Community Sheild and finished top 6 twice after Vichai died.

Irrelevant. That was riding on the coat tails of Vichai's success. Anyone can see that the long term stability of the club was killed in that helicopter

Pointless argument to me as I don’t agree but all I do know is until King Power go we will continue to be in a mess.

Maybe, but do you honestly believe we'd be where we are if Vichai was still alive? Kp would still be our owners, but i highly doubt we'd be in league one with the majority of our fan base wanting them to sell.

Will everyone realise that we are going to spend a decade in the lower leagues.

It happened to Blackburn, Forest, Leeds and Sunderland and now it's our turn.

Just live with it, we're going to be shit every week for alot of seasons. Just try not to take the games seriously because the suffering isn't going to go away. Get to terms that we are a crap nothing team and look forward to the occasional win every couple of months 👍🏼

Thanks for the heart warming analysis.

Progress or decline is a lot deeper than what is happening on the pitch at any given time.

I’d argue much of what made us stand out under Pearson was eroded away ever since the summer of 2016. I think October 2018 the decline in standards and culture was well under way.

I think it’s impossible to answer but we had issues under Vichai too. I think he probably would have sacked Rodgers quicker but whether the replacement would have been okay is another thing. Pearson (and everything he did) not being at the club is the bigger thing for me, without him and what he put in place we wouldn’t have achieved everything we did.

Oh I agree, but Vichai dying is pointed too all the time yet my argument is we were more successful after he died?

Agree on the Pearson thing, which I alluded to in my post. I think he was more of a bigger influence on the club than people give him credit for.

That is true but if the buck always stops at the top then that means we can’t put any blame on Martin for his poor decisions this season.

Sheer Neglect for years brought us here im sick of saying it

When someone comes in and takes over this club just their presence of showing interest and leadership will change this club overnight

Until then it’s aimlessly adrift waiting for a captain to take over the ship

Welcome to life under Aiyawatt

We lost our way - nothing new there. But we used to have a plan, not just on the field but recruitment. When someone left for decent money, we already the replacement who’d been nurtured and developed for 6-9 months.

In recent years we’ve just become a collection of mostly has beens (and now the level is someone like Burns) and now a handful of bright young lads. It’s quite evident there is no real plan with recruitment, and who we can bring in has narrowed because we’ve ****ed the finances.

The squad Rowett took us down with must have had players signed under 5-6 different managers - maybe more - a lot of them brought in to play different styles. No way to run a club or build a team. Amateur beyond belief.

Now there’s been a cull, and we do have an identity or set way of playing - but clearly the squad building doesn’t fit it that well because Luke Thomas is playing as a ball playing centre back! We’re ****ing shit, and another red flag is how many in the first team squad are loans. No way to build, it’s just become so short term to try quickly address the latest problem.

It’s a long road back to anywhere near where we were when it was good under Rodgers, and we may never get back. Peter Taylor and admin set us back a decade or more, this is potentially 20* years in the wildness imo. It’s ****ing bleak.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Once Vichai passed, Top and Rudkin took over the reins and have decided that they are football experts. They want a possession heavy style of football and have recruited to fit their ideas, not the reality of the situation. We became their vanity project that's failed miserably and now Top has admitted defeat and is bailing out.

Squad was firmly in place. Only really Tielemans and Fofana who were signed afterwards with Barnes getting a run. Needed a manager to get it going instead of Puel.
