I don’t really agree with the “corrupt” ECB people are claiming, each individual pitch is marked on its own merits by the match referee present during the whole game.

The key is did Leicestershire prepare the best pitch possible? As that is the important question, it doesn’t matter what’s happened at other grounds as they will have their own match referee present.
The game going 4 days is also irrelevant.

Pitches are marked on seam, spin and uneven bounce and if any of these are deemed to be “excessive” then there will be a pitch enquiry.

Leicestershire (Henderson and Thomas) will have known the risks in not preparing the best pitch possible (if that turns out to be the case)

Thats the way the ECB guidelines work.

But how do they know the best pitch wasn’t possibly prepared?

We’ve had a summer like no other and other pitches around the country have been playing just as bad.

Great recovery from the lads today.

Is that a fixed number or scaled I.e. 4/8 points that Somerset got last season

It got changed to any points won during the match in question get taken away.

There needs to be clear guidelines, too much subjectivity if points are being deducted for a game that ended well into day 4. Where does this lead to? Zero points for home wins as a matter of course?

Apparently Du Plooy can no longer play for Middlesex this season due to an administrative error!

To add to what @Bert’s said what the enquiry is looking into is whether the pitch is ‘below average’.  So by that very wording, they have to look at other pitches to find the average. Surely that especially includes nearby pitches that have experienced similar weather conditions. Looking at the Warks and Notts scores on that round just down the road it can only be described as average at worst.

What makes you think they didn’t provide ‘the best possible pitch’?

There is only above or below average, no average. It doesn’t matter what’s gone on say at Edgbaston or Trent Bridge, they will only look at how the Glamorgan pitch played. Those grounds will have different match referees who will assess the pitch.

The match referee I’m assuming marked it BA due to seam and uneven bounce. They are not looking into whether the pitch is BA as the match referee will already have marked it as such, they will be looking into whether there was “intent” to prepare a pitch which wasn’t the best pitch possible.

If we are looking at weather conditions for example and reducing the chance of seam movement then cut the grass the same length and not leave it 2 different lengths, we didn’t do that so therefore have left ourselves in a difficult position.
Pitch marking system is-

Very good

Good

Above average

Below average

Poor

Unfit

They will assess the length of grass, which were 2 obviously different lengths, too much seam movement from the grassier middle part coupled with the uneven bounce has left us in a tricky position, how do we claim we prepared the best possible pitch when we left so much grass on? Just playing devils advocate here.

But im led to believe that they cleared the dual grass with the powers that be before the game before?

They may have however the pitch still has to meet the ECB criteria. It doesn’t matter what it looks like, it’s how it plays.
The match referee will assess it for

Seam, spin, carry and bounce, if anything is  deemed to be “excessive” then it’ll be marked down by the independent match referee.
Hopfully we can show we prepared the best pitch we possibly could have.

I get what the excellent poster has stated above but all things considered surely they have to look at the pattern of the game? We were bowled out for 150 in the 1st inns. How and why would we prepare a pitch for that? We didnt get an unfair advantage, no one was Injured, it produced a close game where it was hard to bat on but not impossible. I hope common sense prevails and we don't get a points deduction. I think that would set a very dangerous precedent.

How does Lords get through an entire season then?

The true answer to all this is that the E.C.B don't want little Leicestershire staying up and Surrey who are like the Man Utd of county cricket in the E.C.B eyes going down!

I appreciate the detailed reply. But you still need to have an ‘average’ to mark something ‘below average’.

Hopefully it’s not just because the losing side moaned about it, because that’s what it feels like.

Losing bowlers to injuries at the worst time.

Given the three, four day games in just over two weeks, it was always likely. Also especially difficult for the likes of us with smaller squads.

Still…we all enjoyed The Hundred….

That’s that then pretty much . Point deduction and depleted out of form squad. Gave it a good go at times. Probably don’t have the quality but also not had any luck.

Exactly this. Take the relegation and hope for a cup win!
