Wasim Khan spoke eloquently and seemed impressive as an individual but the club went nowhere at best or arguably slightly backwards under his tenure.

Any talent that comes through is quickly snapped up by bigger boys (usually Notts) and it’s impossible to entice them to stay.. Couple of points disagree we play at a Minor Counties ground ok GR no Trent Bridge but it's as good as most County grounds as far as crowds go we get more then Derby Northants and are on a par with Gloucester and Glamorgan.To say we went slightly backwards under Khan must be the understatement of the year the guy was a total disaster and the club lost Millions under His leadership..Finally Northants and Gloucester have shown what can be done with a good coach and good recruitment.

Was gonna say. Minor counties grounds are basically just club grounds (admittedly some like Jesmond are very good club grounds).

Well there is always hope! Although im struggling to stay positive this time around. 

 

The 3 million loan will keep us afloat but to what purpose if we are not competitive on the field. 

It will take a miracle you feel to achieve anything this year.

Yes agreed. Not helped by those mediocre players being given new contracts. I mean at the point we can cut a few astray we renew Parkinson, Klein and Deardens contracts. Baffling. 

 

They wouldnt get a game at any other county.

There's a good article in this month's Cricketer magazine, which lists every county's profit or loss and level of debt for the last 10 years up to 2018. Most counties are in some trouble and have made far more losses than profits in the last ten years. Some of the big test counties will have made big profits from last summer because of The Ashes and World Cup, though it doesn't give the figures for 2019. Derbyshire look in a worse financial situation than us.

 

It also discusses some of the different things that counties are doing to generate income, for example, Glous have an on site private gym, which netted them a £300000 profit last year. While Northants sold shares in the club to the public, to raise money.

 

Given the financials though, I can only assume that Leics are going for an incremental rebuild through a lower risk strategy of cutting the player budget and reducing membership costs to bring in more income. (It's the Lidl/Aldi approach)

 

The loan they have acquired and the £1.3 million from The Hundred, should safeguard their future for the next few years, how they generate income after that is what's important.

Our problems aren't that bad problem seems to be we have a CEO that don't want to spend any money.The fact she cancelled the old players day last year to save £500 says it all really

Would be better off looking at the likes of Ollie Rayner Mark Footitt etc proven players looking for a club

This is how Worcestershire found Pat Brown, though not through a trial organised by them, it was cricketstrength.com. Not sure how many unpolished gems there are out there, we already have players in that age profile who aren't good enough for first class cricket.

Is this aimed at the Asian community? Obviously you’ve got the Leicestershire League which should be a more reliable gauge of talent.

 

I’ve played against some players in all Asian teams way, way down in the lower divisions that were incredibly good but would rather play with family and friends on a Saturday on park pitches. Do think that’s an area the county are missing out on (and probably City too for that matter, though at least there’s Choudhury). Even Azad was only picked up through the Uni system.

Could work? Big big gap in my experience between even outstanding club players and county level. 

 

Back in the day played with and against many fringe county players but when i played a season with Asif Din he was on a different level entirely. He was playing a different game!!!!! Im old so long time ago

 

Spend alot of time in kent now.  Fabien Cowdrey scores a ton a week at club level but for Kent averaged about 20 and was a flop at County level even with his connections. 

 

Club cricket is strong down there, Usman Affsal and Chris Lewis play for Roebucks who are in the 5th tier of kent cricket! Usman still only early 40s.

Good point Tom Wells averaged about 80 in club cricket in Cornwell last year

No overseas for first class just for the T20.Think it's more a case of lack of ambition then lack of money.Almost £2M loan from the council and 2 sell out convents at GR this year sure they could afford £70k for an OS player if they wanted one

I hadnt heard any rumours. The ECB funding and loan from the council are based on firstclass status if you look at it. Actually make us worse off to be a minor county. 

 

Several counties with smaller membership and T20 crowds etc than county so hope yet. Look at Northants and Gloucester. Kent not hugely wealthy and i think they will have a chance of winning the championship this year.

Agreed although we do need to show that we want to compete in the 4 day game.If they just want to save money and accept the wooden spoon every year then  they may as well become a Minor County.With the current squad not sure we will even win a game this season
