Mike needs a break. Run conceding machine

And then struts around all mardy. Sadly, think he’s Deardens replacement as Nixon’s pet.

Tbf he genuinely shown signs in developing last season. These periods happen to players. Just give him a break

Bowling was poor. We know what Klein can do. Not a great deal. Plus Mike. So why not give Sakande and Bowley a good run. Four or five games. Why not? Signed them both individually has never played and the other one.

He's got potential with both bat and ball though I tend to think of him as a bowling all rounder but whilst he will bowl really good spells there is some absolute dross in there too, so, so expensive in all formats.

And he's not a strong enough batter to warrant inclusion as a batting all rounder yet either.

We've seen some real results batting wise from Hill, Swindells and Evans so I wonder if our bowling coaching is at the same level. I do feel Mike has the raw materials but doesn't seem to be improving/tightening up those expensive spells. See all also the stagnation of Griffiths.

Inclined to agree. It’s no secret that the bowling has let us down in all formats this season. So much so, that we’ve had to rely on part time slow/spin bowlers in Lilley, Steel and Rhodes (so far in the RLC) to try and dig us out of ruts.

You could even put it partially down to selection too. The persistence with Griffiths and Mike in the T20 when Will Davis and Ed Barnes have been available is odd (even if just for rotation).

And without Chris Wright in the Championship, I dread to think where we would be.

Too late this season, but serious shake ups needed next season as I do think team selections cost us in the T20. We are crying out for a quality pace bowler in all formats.

Yes similar to the Durham home T20 our bowling ultimately cost us the game but similarly to the Durham game our batting in the last few overs was poor, trying to hit everything out of the park, too many dots, and too many mistimed shots, we were at least  20 short yesterday.

Anyone seen an injury update on Nick Welch ?

Poor lad gets one of the worst injuries I've seen down Grace Road ... but I can't find any updates on the official website.   Does he exist?  Is he still alive?

Doing better than expected I’ve heard.

Yep that's really weird. I thought that.

Disclocated something didn't he and had to have it popped back in at the ground.

Imagine he's sore. And if it was a knee, its a problematic injury for a cricketer.

I don't have any extra insight or info I'm afraid but I wish him all the best.

Scott Steel, who opened decently in the Blast, and bowled tidily too, does not appear to be in the reckoning. Is he injured? Would be good to get a look at him in this format.

Think both he and Swindells are injured,Changing subject has anyone else seen the state of Alan Mullally recently seems in a really bad way so sad to see

I don’t think Steel is injured as he’s been turning out for Sileby CC…

Had no idea..

Just checked out his twitter after reading your comment. He don't seem well, that's for sure.

Edit; just to add, Millns and Mullally must've been one of the most perfect county level.pace duo, working in tandem..an absolute joy to watch

I went to the game yesterday for my first ever cricket match. A cricket-loving buddy came with me to help explain the rules to this American, and deal with my baseball comparisons (if anyone was distracted by him trying to demonstrate the difference between a bowl and a throw, I apologize.) I mentioned during the first half that one difference is that fielding is much better in baseball (and had to listen to his protests -- they involved heavy mentions of gloves). About 10 overs into the second half, after Leicestershire had blown a few possible wickets, he apologized to me.

But aside from the outcome, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Glad you enjoyed it, just a pity it turned out to be pretty unexciting match, with Yorkshire basically batting in cruise mode. We just didn’t have the bowling attack to trouble them and the flurry of missed catches late on epitomised our generally average fielding display. TBF they were just too strong for us. Even if we had reached 350-360 you could see Yorkshire knocking them off.

At least you got to see Harris play a lovely innings during the sunniest part of the day. Ably supported by Hill.

Great stuff. Hope it inspires you to go back!
