Never read so much shite in my life - two of the reasons:-

  • You'll see some of the best players in the world
  • It's a chance for you to get behind your local city

That bit in particular grated with me so much. Bet there are a few cricket journos at the BBC grinding their teeth at what they're being asked to churn out at the minute. Pathetic.

Ridiculous size squad for a County with our limited budget. That's without our 100 players and academy.

Just crazy.

Not sure going forward anyone should have more than a two year contract. Not as if there is a queue round the block for our players.

Just ridiculous to have 26 players on contract. Potty.

Nat Bowley in  his second year, has ever played?

Welch did OK last year never seen again. We 17 batsmen

I agree with you completely on this. The Chief Exec writes frequently that money is too tight to mention, and yet we have what feels like a bloated squad. We've made some decent progress on the field thus far this season, but recruitment needs to be looked at. I guess part of the problem is we now have certain players who are only considered for red or white ball, rather than both, and Lilley is on a white ball only contract of course. But next season, if we were to focus on trying to add quality rather than quantity that would be a good move I think.

I think I mentioned it before but I wonder if the bloated squad is:

A. Considered potentially useful going into a season where covid cases are a risk.

B. A realisation we've some duds on the books.

I think we could comfortably do without Dearden, Rhodes, Welch and one (or even both) of Klein and Griffiths then could have seen an overseas bowler brought in for the season instead of that 4 or 5.

I'm only really giving Bates, Kimber, A.Evans and Bowley a pass here too because they're young and I suspect therefore cheap and given the success of S.Evans and Swindells we should always encourage the academy.

Which local city do Londoners back when London Spirit play the Oval Invincibles?

lol Absolute shite. There’s not a single actual benefit to cricket or fans listed.

‘Could produce the next Ben Stokes’, what the fvck does that even mean lol complete desperation.

2 county championship wins this season, isn't that the highest we've had for a while, seem to remember us going a couple of years without a win

There was a worse one on the BBC website where they asked their pundits what they were looking forward to and the only thing Jimmy Anderson could come up with was that it would be good to see England players play against each other.  As if that’s never happened before.

How do we find out the full scores from today? May be you can't?

Ton for Hill, half century for Swindells, 330/7

The chasing team didn't get close, not sure there's a scorecard anywhere, someone mentioned 11th and 12th wickets going down which suggests they played the overs rather than just finishing when they were all out

The greedy, ugly people are not like us.

They don't feel the love... that you and I would die without.

Squad has been announced:

Barnes, Will Davis, Harry Dearden, Gavin Griffiths, Marcus Harris, Lewis Hill (C, wk), Dieter Klein, Louis Kimber, Arron Lilley, Ben Mike, Rishi Patel, George Rhodes, Nick Welch, Chris Wright.

Think I'd go:

Harris

Welch

Patel

Hill (C, wk)

Lilley

Kimber

Mike

Rhodes

Barnes

Wright

Davis

Griffiths, Klein and Dearden sitting out. Wouldn't surprise me to see all 3 play though. Can only assume Swindells and Steel are injured for this though haven't seen anything.

I think they both played in the inter club game. Seems odd. Steel shaped up well in the T20. Are we just giving everyone in our big squad a game?

Someone at the club told me on Tuesday that three players have "worrying niggles" so presumably Swindells and Steel are two of them.

Crowd looks reasonable. Think Rae mentioned high hundreds in ticket sales for today?

Been invited to go the 100 via a contractor 😂 - table full of lads and they can’t even get rid of the tickets with the contractor, got lots of spaces in the box/tables

Said contractor has now binned his table after numerous drop-outs and no shows. Says a lot that Edgbaston are willing to give up the table without deposits etc
