Songs that take you somewhere else

Recommended Posts

****ing hell. I'm listening to The Blue Album by Weezer. I'm back at uni, in the first year. Seeing everyone again for the first time in ages for my mates stag do next month.

The world has turned,

and left me here,

just where I was,

before you disappeared,

and in your place,

an empty space,

has filled the void,

behind my face.

Fantastic album.

My name is Jonas! I'm carrying the wheel!

Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix

Takes me back to sitting in The Lifeboat (a pub) in St Ives, before it was refitted. Used to be a great old style pub (of the kind that are hard to find nowadays - had an uneven flagstone floor) right on the harbour front with a great jukebox.

Was my first holiday away without parents (and NO, it wasn't a current hit, I'm not that old!)

Killing In The Name makes me 14 and angry, every listen.

haha 17 and angry for me.

Bloc Party and Killers (see other thread) take me back to uni first year.

Prodigy - Out of Space takes me back to Wembley 93 or 92 (!). It was playing on the radio in the car down and I remember me and my dad laughing at what odd music it was

Loads of songs remind me of specific periods in my life, specific events, occasionally significant journeys etc.

Dire Straits - Romeo and Juliet

Foo Fighters - Walking After You

Green Day - Good Riddance

Fratelli's - Basically the entire album.

David Gray - Smile.

Bob Dylan - When You Go Your Way and I Go Mine.

Blackstreet - Don't Leave

Hot Chip - No Fit State

Soulwax - Much Against Everyone's Advice

Feeder - Just a Day (alright, I'll tell you that one. Tues nights at Fan Club).

Melanie Brooks - Bitch (seriously!)

Not going to tell you what they take me back to though, so it's all a bit pointless.

ALIVE by Pearl Jam.

I remember seeing the video for the first time, starts with the sound of waves crashing then an amazing guitar sound and immediately I knew this band we're for me.

It was 1991 and they we're the first band I ever followed. I was 16 it takes me back to my GCSE years, going to raves (remember them) and drinking a lot, hanging out with my mates without a care in the world.

Last year I went to see PJ for the first time, and remember sheding a tear when they played it.

Magical.

Top tune too

Walking After You seems to be one that often makes it on these kind of lists...

Weezer in general take me back to when i used to skate around town.

2 of my favourite albums ever are by Weezer and both are colour related - Blue and Green. Pinkerton is brilliant aswell.
