Sad state of affairs that Chris Boardman is having to apologise for any offence caused by his comment about Kenny being "so calm and casual about winning that he's probably just asking Laura what's for tea tonight"  Getting absolutely pelted on twitter by the feminazi brigade.

Yeah, the flak is a bit much but the comment itself is a bit belittling even in jest considering Trott is an insanely good Olympian too. Though I'm pretty sure the way it's being taken wasn't his intent.

In any case, Team GB cycling aren't in fact human. They are a Borg collective. Check out the helmets. London 2012 suggested this, Rio 2016 confirms it. Ruthless.

Why do they follow the battery bike for 5 laps and then race for 3? Why not just have a 3 lap race?

Anyhow, well done Kenny. Thought he was going to get DSQ!

The bike gradually builds up the speed. I'm guessing they have a few standing start races so this is something different. The riders have to discipline themselves not to pass the bike and then they have to jostle for the best position when the bike leave the track.

@Grewks, GB already passed their medal target. Just saying.

It's pathetic, I doubt most people even gave it a second thought but you know what the online mob of feminazis on Twitter are like, having met Chris I wouldn't be surprised if he was trolling though.

They could both be our most decorated Olympians in a few years, how incredible would that be for a husband and wife team? I think it's morally wrong for people to have too many kids but for the sake of the nation these should have about 25.

I knew as soon as he said it that something would happen.

A lot of people with too much time on their hands.

If we finish above China surely it would rank as the greatest british sporting achievement.

Incredible what people read into purely innocent comments.

I suppose social media has made society into a very reactionary one, where common sense and a sense of placid contemplation doesn't exist. Makes me glad I don't use social media I'd probably just be continuously pissed off.

Ridiculous. Me and the missus were watching and both thought it was quite amusing.

It was a humorous comment in which Boardman was trying to describe how cool and relaxed Kenny was after his win, in comparison to Trott who was extremely emotional and continued to be throughout Kenny's race. Nothing wrong with that at all. "What's for tea?" is an innocent remark which most likely uttered daily in almost every single household up and down the country - the epitome of mundane cohabiting life. Anyone who thinks he was being somehow offensive has too much time on their hands!

Well could do with one more gold to beat Beijing's 19 but that's pretty much guaranteed.

It will start to dry up again soon though I think, we tend to start and finish badly.

Don't generalize Finners, we aren't going to win any gold medals in rowing or cycling this year as I looked up a web page on British medal hopes and because it didn't have like any cyclists or rowers in it I am now an expert in Olympics and shit and I hope no one tries to blame Zica.

How long till our flops at the Euros get compared to these winners?

Maybe its already happened..

Does show what can happen if money is spent wisely but then they probably don't have greedy agents in the Olympics!

The worst was some moronic Doctorate on some social studies or whatever that the BBC were quoting in an article asking if the Olympic coverage was sexist.

Her example was the camera panning to a bloke in the crowd, the husband of a female athlete that had just won gold, and the commentator saying "there's the man behind her success!"

Alright, fair enough, if this was the implication that a top female athlete could only be successful because of her husband I'd agree that that's a bit offensive.

Except the husband was, as the commentator knew, also her ****ing coach. The article even explained that and still claimed it was potentially sexist.

So why does nobody go bonkers when the camera pans to Ivan Lendl when Murray wins a match and calls him the man behind Murray's success? Stupid.

If pushed, I'd probably have to consider myself a feminist - although I think the term is outdated, I want to see the fair treatment of everyone. There is sexism in sport, some of it ****ing obvious. The tabloids making a disgusting show of perving over some hurdler in her racing get up is a fair example. It's not flattering, it's demeaning.

But this hysterical shit claiming that Boardman is some vile misogynist because he references that Kenny and Trott are a couple is not only moronic, it's also wildly unhelpful to their own "cause."

It just devalues any complaint about any ACTUAL sexism. The boy who cried wolf springs to mind.

I like to imagine Boardman this morning with his coffee, reading through all the shite he's received online with a big grin on his face. Your are lucky to have met him, always been a bit of a hero of mine and always comes across as a decent bloke who doesn't take himself seriously. With what he has been through in the last few weeks I'm sure all of this will not be bothering him one bit.

Regarding what he said and the context of it, Laura Trott was completely irrelevant to what he said really, it could of been Jason Kenny's dad stood next to him crying and Boardman would have probably made the exact same comment, but unfortunately it seems some of these people are almost waiting to kick off at a controversy that doesn't even exist.

Back to the sport, what are people thinking for sports personality? Surely out of Whitlock, Kenny, Murray and possibly Trott from the Olympics now?

It was only a very brief meeting about ten years, I was embarrassed as when introduced I didn't know who he was (well I had heard of him obviously but face to name) but he seemed like a guy who didn't take life too seriously.

Murray has to still be a strong favourite, to win a gold medal and Wimbledon in the same year is going to take some beating but Kenny, Trott and Whitlock have to be up there, Adam Peaty as well given how much he smashed the World record by, Mo Farah will get a mention as well assuming he wins a fourth gold on Saturday.

We actually have a little bit of competiton for the team award now as well from the GB cyclists.

I don't know whether its because I don't know as much about olympic sports but I'm finding some of the commentary excellent. Particularly the cycling and even the diving.

Gareth Bale will be the obligatory footballer on the card. Wales getting to the semi, winning the CL again, etc.

Would love to see Vards nominated for a laugh but don't think the beeb would risk the potential bad press when bitter North London fans start telling everyone he's a massive racist again.

It wont be Hamilton, so, I'm Happy.

Will unquestionably be Murray if he wins the US Open.......Kenny or Trott might give him a run for his money if not.

Talking of sexism et al, did you see the furore regarding the guy who proposed to his GF after she'd won a diving (I think it was by a pool) silver medal? People marked to social media to call it "male control" and stealing the limelight away from his partner.

It was a garish and awkward thing, especially as his speech seemed to go on forever, but his heart was in the right place. I'm pretty sure he wasn't thinking "cor the cow has just won silver, I need to overshadow her achievement."

You seemingly cannot do anything abnormal anymore else some brigade will take offence.

EDIT: Away from the moaning I love how good we are across everything. Gymnastics, boxing, sailing, athletics. cycling etc etc etc, this has been a fantastic games and really enjoyable to watch as a result. I love sitting there judging people's ability in a sport I watch once every four years, it's the best part of the Olympics!
