Guesty Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 I like Capello and think he is a brilliant manager at club level. However I think he is too stubborn at international level. Its ok to be stubborn and only play 1 way if you can buy the players to fit that formation. At international level you cannot. Everyone said we should have played 4-5-1 from the start and as soon as we played a team that were good and that played that way they completely domintated our midfield. Gerrard was always out of position; numerous times I saw a player recieve the ball and then look to the left and have to turn back inside. Upson who has always been frankly quite poor had a good game last match but should have been replaced by a better player was shown to be woefully out of his depth. Then Lampard, he is brilliant for Chelsea where all he has to really do is shoot, but in the middle of a 4 man midfield he is not good enough. Then to some it all up were 4-1 down and he brings on Heskey. Thats just stubborness. I admit the players badly let him down but I just don't see how you can justify the stubborness and the fact that England have been woefully poor all tournament. I always come on this forum but rarely post. But Capello has really annoyed me and I don't see him changing his ways.
purpleronnie Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 I think capello is often surprised by the lack of skill our players have.
MC Prussian Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 I think capello is often surprised by the lack of skill our players have. Is that why he says so little?
Suffolk_fox Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 Hopefully now, we will NEVER see another ridiculous 'England Expects' headline. I grow sick whenever I see this - the amount of pressure heaped upon our players is immense. To stand a cat in hell's chance of winning the World Cup we need to: Play a lot less football in this country - 2 Domestic cups??? Why? Support grass roots more - our future talent is not a £50m signing from Italy Have a maximum number of foreign players/minimum number of home grown players in each squad Get a respected ENGLISH manager - Roy Hodgson, Harry Redknapp etc Allow the National team to play together more often Have a winter break Not demand so much of our national team - it's no accident we've only won this competition the once, and that was on home soil....
purpleronnie Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 The FA just want to milk the premiership cow, that will never change and so it goes......

Jon the Hat Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 We need a manger who will pick players England form, and an FA who will back one, neither are going to happen.
BlueSi13 Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 We're not as bad as 2008.... And we're still better than France and Italy....just looking for positives people
Corky Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 I don't think it's Capello's fault- these players have been around for years, with Sven then with McClaren. They didn't pull up trees then and they still aren't, so it's not as though we've suddenly gone majorly backwards under Capello. We need a change, there are some very decent players we should keep and others who should go. Young players like Hart, Adam Johnson should be given a go now.
Matt Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 Their here, Their there, Their Every-fooking-Where, Except Defence, Except Defence. fooking awful. The whole team is at fault but defence especially IMO, awful. TBH though just shows how much I care about the international game, Don't get me wrong I love the big competitions and love jumping on the bandwagon, but when Leicester lose a bog standard league game I don't speak for hours, sometimes days (Really.) but England lose to Germany in the last 16 and I don't know if I should be embarrassed or what but I was laughing, It was terrible, and I can actually give an honest assessment on it....We're shit. Yes the assistant referee got it wrong on our 2nd goal which would have made it 2-2 and may have changed our spirit, gave us confidence, changed the game but lets be honest we were shit and did we actually play defence or defence line today because I only noticed it when we were 4-1 down and its abit pointless of starting to defend at the point surely?! Oh well roll on 2 years and we'll all be doing it again in the Euro's. Time to worry about Leicester City now.

Matt Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 Sorry... Hmmm I did wonder if it was the correct one when typing it.
dandannieldanok Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 Capello got massive selection issues wrong, he abandoned his policy of picking in-form players in the most baffling circumstances. That coupled with players under-performing and generally not being as good as I thought they were.
davieG Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 The FA just want to milk the premiership cow, that will never change and so it goes...... Tthe FA make money from the PL it's separate entity it's income comes from Televised England and FA Cup games.
Guest DavidJCW Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 ----------------------Hart Onuoha----Richards----Tomkins----Gibbs ------------Rodwell-------Muamba -----Lennon-------Wilshere------Johnson --------------------Walcott YES!!! THIS PLEASE!!! Can you imagine it? Players that actually WANT to play for England, probably work well together on the pitch and don't strut around thinking they have a divine right to win!!! It would certainly be a change, and even if we didn't win it, it'd be brilliant to see passion, energy and determination on the pitch for once.
Jfox Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 ----------------------Hart Onuoha----Richards----Tomkins----Gibbs ------------Rodwell-------Muamba -----Lennon-------Wilshere------Johnson --------------------Walcott If at least Hart, Rodwell, Johnson and Richards arent in our starting 11 by then, then something is wrong. As clearly proved by the Germans today, young and enthusiastic players are better than ageing "cant-be-bothered" players.
Ricey Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 Problems: - Trying to play like a Premiership team, i.e. fast tempo. Doesn't work at this level. - Too much hype and pressure - Stubborn manager who can barely speak English - Not enough quality players coming through - Over reliance on Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney performing Solutions: - Get rid of Capello - Bring in an English manager (Redknapp or Hodgson) - Stricter rules in the Premier League regarding ENGLISH (not British) players - Phase out Gerrard and Lampard - Adopt a new system that is slower and more focus on passing the ball and keeping possession.

Ye what!?! Slow tempo? Have you been watching Argentina/Germany/Brazil/Spain... when they are in top flow, it's fast paced 1 touch brilliant football that tears teams apart! Our problem IS that we play at too slow a tempo... half of the time we're in defence playing the ball back to the f**king goalkeeper!

I disagree, we panic on the ball because we are constantly looking to get rid of it. The best International teams are patient and composed on the ball, they wait for gaps to appear with short passing.
Frost Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 Well, what a shit weekend this has been. Firstly, the news of Pearson going to Hull has left me in shock more than anything. Now we were to meet with the Germans in a match so hyped up by the media, it was fustrating, whether it would go to a penalty shootout or not, or whether they kept chucking statistics in my face, it was boring as hell. So, the 'golden generation' were, as usual, expected to bring home the World Cup, but yet again, an embarrasing and totally inept performance(s) has seen us comfortably eliminated. Our whole attitude and body language was negative from the start of the World Cup, and personally, I can't think of one good reason why I always place so much faith in England. Poor performances from the 'superstars' such as Gerrard. Lampard, Rooney & Terry become boring. How about we adopt what the Germans have done and start players who have potential, passion, and more importantly, the desire to win. The England team did not turn a corner after the Slovenia game, and it was evident today, same old, same old. After a disgusting performance against a very poor Algerian side, the media tried to 'fill in the cracks' but to no avail. Young players such as Rodwell, Wilshere and Hart (even though James had a good game, he's probably made his last appearance for England) should be given a chance. What is the point in playing passionless, over-paid players, clearly with no motivation to win? We need to bring back some motivation. Even when our national anthem is sung, most players just mutter or stand in silence, yet other countries sing, loud and proud in comparison. The whole team is spineless. On paper out team is great, producing performances in the Premier League 10x better than any National team performance we've seen! I believe the players do not know how lucky they are to represent the country. We IMO, did not look very comfortable through qualifying, most performances were distinictly average, but wins were still achievable against poor opposition. We have developed a predictable team sheet, whereas i'd rather see a team who are actually proud of wearing the England shirt everytime they put it on, even if they do not reach the latter stages of major tournaments. We've seen that the current squad cannot achieve anything to be proud of, so surely it's time for change? Maybe a slight over-reaction, but i've had enough of the current crop of players. The only players to come out of the World Cup with any credibility are Ashley Cole and James. Rooney has had a shite tournament, and I think theres something not quite right with him, rumour has it there was a bust up the night of the Japan friendly? Who knows.. Anyway, the only manager I think who could get us anywhere near a World Cup Final is Harry Redknapp. The players going home tonight should feel ashamed. Currently, im just watching an Argentinian side who actually bother to play football. Oh, just thought i'd mention, Sepp Blatter is a complete cvnt.

Jay Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 it's time to face a few facts and accept that the English game is rotten to the core some of the problems imo are: The Premier League is not the best league in the world so the sooner they stop coming out with that crap the better Some of Englands so called "star players" are far from world class English players are technically shocking been embarressed by every team we have played The lack of English Managers in top jobs is poor The lack of any desire or commitment for the big clubs to sign, develop or even play English players is non existent The number of foreign youngsters in the top clubs youth teams is crazy The number of good young English players coming through is stupidly small The greed of the premier league is disgusting The flow of money through the leagues just doesn't exist Almost every club is up shit creek financially The entire system in this country needs changing from the bottom up
