The England are s**t thread.

I think we tend to over-react in this country, myself included.

We had a very bad 4 games. I know it was the world cup but cant we just forget about it and move on?

Gerrard has been below par all season, it happens. Yet he was still one of the few that were reasonable.

Lampard has been poor for England forever and personally, I wouldnt play him but we did and look where it got us.

Barry simply not matchfit after so many weeks out.

Rooney burned out and out of form plus the pressure led to him having an ineffective tournament.

No Ferdinand, we missed him more than I ever thought possible.

I could go on but I just want to forget about it all.

Actually we have a bad 4 years! The first season under Capello was decent, his disciplined methods seemed to work but once we looked nailed on to qualify the old problems started to re-emerge, culminating in what we have just witnessed.

England's big players never turn up for the big games, Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney are the major culprits but there are one or two others.

Neither Barry nor Rooney were anywhere near match fit, Capello gambled and it went tits up. (again)

Missing Ferdinand was a blow, but only because we failed to prepare and proper (ie players who have pace and are fit) defenders like Dawson and some of the younger possibilities were never given a chance.

Fook up all round but it was eminently predictable from the best part of a year ago!

Perhaps if we coached our kids and younger players how to play in a team, to defend properly and learn how to win by keeping their shape and discipline instead of stupid and pointless stepovers and fancy tricks with the ball, then we might have a chance.

The overall standard of coaching in this country is very poor and the gaining of qualifications is used as a money making exercise by the F.A.

Glen Johnson and Gareth Barry should have knocked both those Germans into the stands and taken bookings for the team. Blame Capello!! You're having a laugh.......

Ashley Cole is the only player that can come out of the tournament with any real credibility. Love him, hate him, whatever, he's been our most consistent defender for years now and for me, again showed why he's the best left back in the world. Baines, Warnock and even Bridge don't get anywhere near Cole.

The best goalkeeper from this season was left on the bench throughout the tournament. The other two were both involved in relegation battles all season.

Terry suffered without having another world class centre back along side him, fair enough Rio's not as good as he used to be anymore but he's a lot better than the three that Terry had to play alongside.

Gerrard tried to much and was hindered by being played out of position. No coincidence his best game and a goal came from central midfield. For him to get moved out left for Gareth "Couldn't pass wind" Barry and Frank Lampard who hasn't turned up for England since Euro 2004 is disgraceful.

Rooney let his season and all the hype go to his head, as well as not being fully match fit, it looked like all he could think about was his holiday. Why Peter Crouch never got a start is beyond me, especially with his scoring record for England.

After such a fantastic qualifying campaign, the world cup for us was nothing short of a shambles. We had the potential to do well, maybe even win it, but to go out in the second round is utterly embarrassing, especially when teams (with all due respect) such as, Ghana, Uruguay and Parguay/Japan will be in the quarter finals. The only difference, which for me makes up for more than most, is that these teams have played as a tea, stuck together and not get influenced by the press. Maybe if we'd have set our stalls out like these teams, we'd still be in the tournament. We made an average German side looked amazing. Hopefully some harsh lessons will be learnt, about the players as individuals and as a team whilst these "stars" are having their nice long breaks, but I won't hold out any hope for that. I also hope the players aren't blaming the exit solely on "the goal that never was" - terrible decision, but would we have gone on to win? No-one can say, but we sure as hell would've had a better chance of going through than if not.

Hopefully, the media will get bored and the circus will die down before the week is out, because this is something that just needs to be banished.

The Sun are really ridiculous. They were the main paper that hyped England up and said we had the best players and were going to win, now they seem furious at the players for just relaxing. What do they expect....the players to go straight to bed??

Oh no their drinking beer. Sack the lot of em.

Thinking about it, one can wonder who actually took that picture and sold it to the Sun - must've been a pretty poor soul desperate for instant cash. lol

I still stick by what i said earlier, i think theres been quite a lot of over reactions here, disastrous result though it was....

Heres how me and my German friends called the game.....

First 30 minutes England continue their form from the group stages with Germany in complete control, knocking it around at will, looking dangerous, and deservedly 2-0 up at that point....could have been 3 or 4

Upson then from knowhere grabs a goal back from a corner to put England back in a game where they'd been completely none existent upto that point....

Force is then with England as they pick up the pace and start knocking it around with intent and will before Lampard pings in a screamer 60 second after Upsons effort to make it 2-2 but wait....

Despite the set back England were now the dominant force, the Germans look shell shocked and in complete disarray at this stage of the game, England looking menacing and confident that they had the Germans on the ropes right until the whistle for half time....

Second half begins the same as the first ended with England having the lions share of the ball with the Germans resorting to sitting back with 10 behind the ball (ala the Ghana game) to preserve their slender lead, however England find it difficult to break down in frustration of the wall of white in front of them and lose a little momentum they had in the first half....

Despite this England keep their heads and attempt to push more numbers up in order to grab that all important second goal which would have put England so close to finishing a remarkable come back.....

England then get a free kick in a great position (despite England not having a single person that can take a good free kick) and put numbers high but then disaster, England are caught out and punished by the Germans perfectly drilled counter attack with England disgracefully short on numbers at the back....

From that point on England are broken, in desperation we throw the same numbers up again in a vain attempt at getting ball over the Germans line but its far too late and the same happens again, Germans break and snatch an easy 4th....

England then pull numbers back to avoid a defeat that we'd never recover from.....

So in essence from Upsons goal to Germany's third England for me were looking good and in control of the possession and flow of the game but grabbing that all important second goal proved elusive....

Ill always believe that if England had gotten that deserved second goal things would have been different, football is like that in the way its momentum swings one way and then the other....the demoralised Germans would have been forced to come out of their half and play more football leaving gaps for an elated England to possibly exploit....

As it was it was not to be, im not saying we were great or even good, but we certainly weren't a disgrace as some are saying here there and everywhere tonight....and the Germans still look mediocre to me, i don't think they will win another game this tournament as i think they can be picked apart when/if they go behind....

But maybe me and my friends saw it completely wrong :)

Spot on tbh.

We've got to blame something though.

Clearly we aren't producing the players. Just look at their club records, neva won noffing :-/

Plenty of headlines across the redtops yesterday saying the players were a 'disgrace' because Ledley King and Ashley Cole were ''caught'' laughing 'just hours' after World Cup elimination. I mean how dare they.

That was in bad taste coming from a couple of intellectuals like King and Cole.

There's a minimum 30 day mourning period apparently, the Sun demands it.

Well apparently we're slightly less shit than Argentina.

Argentina went further, scored more goals and played a lot better but apart from that you're bang on.

Fed up of hearing Rooney's name mentioned alongside Kaka, Messi and Ronaldo. He's obviously a good player but he's just not in their class.

Disagree. Admittedly Rooney had a shocking tournament but Messi failed to score, Kaka was sent off in a game and Ronaldo was supposed to be the main man in a Portugal side that failed to score in 3 of their 4 games.

If you were to look at the past year to 18 months, surely Rooney has surpassed Kaka? No doubt he still lags behind Ronaldo and Messi overall though.

I have to agree. I actually laughed when I heard some of the commentary about the great players out of the competition with his name amongst them. Like you say, a good player but absolutely nowehere near Ronaldo and Messi. not even remotely close for me.

Kaka on the other hand, has had nowehere near a good enough two years to justify being amongst them either.

Only the English somehow believe Rooney isn't a world class player (mostly since the WC), the Germans out here jizz all over him
