FrankieADZ Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 I thought we played really well today, we was pretty good all over the park tbf.....altho Ben Mee did look very shaky first half; he was getting beat to every ball. Think the front 3 look a real danger, The Yak looks different class, just hope he keeps banging them in. One final point tho, where the hell do these ref's come from, he was shocking today, the first penalty was right but come on how can he miss the challenge on Vassell by there goalie then 2 seconds later there's a handball from Dyer's shot.... Well the only way is up....baby...
lcfcsnow Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Defence was suspect, mainly Mee and Berner but the rest of the team looked brilliant, great pace throughout the team now. I have no doubt Sven will bring in the right players and they'll be no stopping us come February.
WAGHORN IS A BLUE Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Omg ben mee tackle on morrison was best tackle i have seen
Guest BlueBrett Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 We were great today. Passed it around really nicely and every time one of our front 3 got the ball we looked dangerous. Richie ran everything again and the Sol Bamba show is just getting ridiculous! Sven should get January manager of the month for sure.
dbtcity Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Ben Mee reminds me o mcgivern.... Awful, in all fairness il give him a break as it was his first competitive game but he got abused and probably won 3 headers all game, his passing was awful and he just looked all round poor today, if I was Hobbs I would be absolutely gutted to be dropped for him.... On a more positive note every one else in the team was immense, sol BAMBA looks in a different class every time I've seen him, yaks touch and strength is unbelieveable and wellens just ran the show from start to finish, his quick free kick for bambas goals were quality, all round a quality team performance bar Mee but like I said il give him time as I jumped on yuki's back and he's turned in2 a revalation

I have no doubt Sven will bring in the right players and they'll be no stopping us come February. Echo my thoughts, berner and mee were beaten with ease 3 or 4 times at the start of the 2nd half, bamber was immense, different class today (although sometimes I wished he would just clear his lines sometimes) Midfield excellent Forwards always looked a threat Just one small gripe, I wish we would shoot more from outside the box instead of playing pretty football, only to see it break down!
Thracian Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 First of all it's great to be watching us trying to play some proper football more often than not - at least at home. Goals, near misses, endless incident, controversial refereeing, memorable debuts, the emergence of characters in our side after years of second grade automata, this game had everything. There were various contestants for man of the match - Bamba for his two goals, Dyer for his opener and an hour of simply terrifying the Millwall defence, Wellens for his skill, his two assists, his attitude and his amusing cameo of ball-playing wizardry when lying on the floor. It's genuinely hard to split em but in the end I'll plumb for Wellens because those assists portrayed a bloke who's benefitting immensely for having talented players around him and far more passing options. It will be interesting to see replays of the last two penalty decisions. When a player goes six feet in the air after a challenge I find it seriously hard to imagine he wasn't fouled or why the referee should imagine there was some advantage in playing on. As for Millwall's second penalty I'll stand correcting but from where I was sitting more or less in line, I didn't see anything amiss. Yes, it was a bit of a mess and with such a possee of Leicester players involved you could always imagine a referee responding to someone falling over, as they constantly do nowadays. But a foul? Not that I could see. After what had happened earlier none of the City players seemed to want to risk a challenge. I was a bit surprised Vassell played - and he still didn't look fully fit - but there's no doubt we look a dangerous proposition in attack. With Naughton eager to join in we had seven or eight men supporting every assault and Millwall never looked like coping. And quite apart from the goals and chances we created, our ball retention was outstanding, particularly in the front half of the pitch when we must have kept the ball for 30-odd passes perhaps six or seven times, in the style of Don Revie's old Leeds side. Dyer's goal was the result of one such flowing move and when Millwall were reduced to 10 men they were so short of possession it really was a wonder they were able to pose such a threat in their limited number of attacks. But, with Morison the orchestrator, they did threaten - and it is no comfort at all that they might easily have notched four or five goals themselves bearing in mind the penalty miss and the number of times the ball flashed across our goalmouth with the City defence panicking. They won headers in the box too and on one occasion I've really no idea how Morison missed a nod in to an open goal. Put simply our defending was the stuff of nightmares. Mee was clumsiness personified in conceding the first penalty, he was centrally involved in the debateable second and completely missed the ball when attempting the desperate clearance of a low cross into our box with Milwall attackers happily absent. Yes, he stayed involved and yes he showed some composure on the ball but defending is all about outcomes and he really could easily have been arguably at fault for three goals against us. Throughout Millwall found it far too easy to get at us on the right where Mee and Berner looked vulnerable. Altogether though the many pluses won. Another big one was Abe who has refreshingly started to shoot at last and who was involved in so many of our better moves. King fed a sublime ball to Dyer for our first goal, passed the ball soundly, had a couple of decent chances and provided subtle runs which opened up space for others - particularly Dyer and Wellens - to exploit. Altogether an encouraging performance and a lot of fun for the fans to watch.
Legend_in_blue Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 It surprised me that tin-pot came at us in the first half but after a defensive blunder, this suited us. We have so much quality going forward and yet Yakubu still looked a threat even though he hardly broke a sweat. Good players make it look easy on the ball and don't need to run around, let the opposition do that for you. I thought we looked impressive, I can't see anyone beating us at home from now on.
Gazza M Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 A good offensive dispaly today. We look to be a real threat going forward and Yakubu already looks an inspired signing. The defence for me is still a bit worrying. I think we will see another central defender join us this week and another Dyer/Gallagher who can play wide of the central striker. I expect to see Waghorn go out on loan to get those games under his belt and probably N'guessen off either on loan or permenantly. That is my prediction anyway.
Jay Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Mee had an absolute shocker, looked totally out of his depth The Yak is a beast How that wasn't a penalty I will never know and their 2nd wasn't either very Harsh sending off at first look and FREE BAZ!
MC Prussian Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Mee caused a couple of concerns in the first half and Morison had him in his back pocket almost all game long. Unlucky to start off by causing a penalty within 30 seconds. But it's his first (?) Championship game, first time with the "big" boys and he needs time to settle in. Was a bit surprised to see him start instead of Hobbs, but Mee fits in better on the left-hand side in centre and Hobbs needed some time off to recuperate. That tackle on Morison towards the end was quality, though. Proper old school, but all fine and clean. Mee thinks he could do that more often. Was a cruise from start to finish, the result flatters Millwall a bit. There were times when we could pass the ball wherever we wanted, we were that much in control (and that was even before Millwall were decimated to ten men). Their first goal came out of nowhere, cracker from outside the box. Bad thing is, Weale has his problems with shots from long range, and I think other teams in the Championship have been briefed accordingly. It's not the first time a goal from that angle goes past our No.1. Berner lost it a couple of times because he couldn't cope with the speed of the Millwall wingers, but he didn't really disappoint. Solid in the Championship, a real asset. But we might have to look for replacement elsewhere in the long run, as much as it hurts. Naughton's that good, Millwall hardly ever tried to go past his side. Bamba, what a bargain, third goal in four games. And that for a defender...! Could've, should've scored a hattrick today and he would've become the Legend he's destined to even quicker. Can't say nothing wrong about Wellens and Abe, they've slowly but steadily improved in central midfield and complement each other nicely. King - where was he all game? Another one of these "under the radar" events, few times going forward, a few touches here and there, but overall, without impact. I like how Vassell and Dyer did on their respective side. Dyer took the criticism to his heart and scores again. Vassell always on the verge of scoring one himself. Yakubu - say no more. Every touch a touch of class, almost unstoppable and has a great eye for the open man, too. The amount of brilliant passes left and right was a joy to the eye of the beholder. Maybe we should put a cheeky bid in and take him off Everton at the end of the season. As for the referee, I thought he did really well in the first half and then, after that penalty incident in the Millwall box, got it all wrong. We should've gotten that dead ball, Millwall's penalty was VERY soft (and very hard on Mee) and I doubt the referee was actually in sight to judge it accordingly. The red card against Askou was harsh. Millwall fans: OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH, so ****ing bland.
Maybes Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 The ref totally lost the plot second half I think he was making up for his poor decisions when dishing out the red card. However it did look a tad 2 footed.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Good win and we looked very good going forward. There are still some things that need working on, but we have a lot of positives from the game. Need to carry on this unbeaten run now and then we can look to the Play offs.

ScouseFox Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 We had 9 players, Mee being the exception, who was shaky, who were perfectly comfortable and capable of playing football. From Bamba through Wellens up to Yakubu, we can pass the ball comfortably and retain possession. The first goal was great, nice one two with Kingy, and who said Dyer can't finish. Looked like we had a stonewaller, if the ref thinks it wasn't a penalty, surely Vassell's dived As for their's, pretty sure their forward's standing leg slipped and he went down. Ref lost it completely and he sent their guy off to even it up, not sure if he should've gone, need to see it again. Got alot of love for Bamba, and as for Yakubuuuuu running straight through one of their midfielders, barging him to the ground, pure brute
Webbo Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 It was a 2 footed challenge so I suppose it was technically correct but I don't think the ref would have sent him off if it wasn't for the cock up with the penalties.
Guest ttfn Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Not sure Yakubu broke into a sprint all afternoon but he looked very dangerous whenever he got the ball. His distribution was also excellent. Christ that ref was poor. The worst 5 minutes of refereeing I've seen since Andre Marriner's mad spell against Newcastle when he booked Bruno for an innocuous trip having let Ryan Taylor assault Waghorn with a king-fu kick moments earlier.
Dylan Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Brilliant home performance again. Wellens was again immense- need to keep him, vital for our team imo. Dyer had another good game, looks like he's been practising his finishing. A brace for Bamba, good to see our CB's contributing to the goalscoring.. Thought Ben Mee had a shaky start- giving away the pen so early and getting eased off the ball to easy. Morrison beat him to everything. Credit to him though- he came back in the 2nd half and played much better. Thought it was the wrong decision to drop Hobbs but still got the 3 points. The Yak's goal was class, like his performance. Loved how they tried to outstrength him off the ball, and they went 'flying' . Thought the ref was again shit. After not giving us the pen for the Vassell incident, he then gives them a pen for a soft challenge. From seeing it firsthand from high in the FamilyStand, thought it was defo red card- jumped in two footed imo, but will be eager to see the highlights.

Didn't we have a penalty for handball turned down in that game too? May have even been in the same 5 minutes

For the first time actually beginning to look at other results. Here's hoping Bristol City do us a favour Tuesday night

Mee had a bad game, but the one thing he did well was pass the ball. It was defending that he looked bad at.
