shailen Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Yes this is the sort of football that Sousa tried to play. But only 2 players in the side today, were in the starting team on opening day. Oakley and King. Sven realised that he rest of the team needed changing to be able to play this type of football. Yeah but our best 11 would have abe instead of oakley, so really only king survives. Does show how much our side has improved, the squad today is 10x the squad then, and it shows.
ozleicester Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Yet another brilliant game by the lads and by Sven. Ricardo looked fine to me, didnt really have much to do, however regarding the scuffed passes, i thought there were a number of mishit passes today, i even asked if we were using a different type of ball cos all players (well, all of ours, theirs didnt try to pass) seemd to have difficulties. The first half was pure quality and the second was not negative more it was just that the Sheep threw all they had at us and we had to be on the back foot. Thought our support was excellent, entire upper tier stood for the whole game as far as i could see. A little credit to the Sheeps version of the Fosse Boys, who bounced all game in the far corner, the home crowd was silent for the first half, but did seem to make more noise in the second (understandably). Andy King is priceless at the moment, Gally is pure quality, The back four look tight and organised now, to be honest,, everyone is on fire at the moment. I think its fair to say we are the BEST team in the league at the moment, continue this quality and form and the playoffs will be ours. Proud to be a City fan yet again
Hack Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Yeah but our best 11 would have abe instead of oakley, so really only king survives. Does show how much our side has improved, the squad today is 10x the squad then, and it shows. True that Abe would replace Oakley (probably) add Wellens as a likely starter (I think he wasn't fit for round 1). But yes, Sven has re-engineered the side in 4 months to a mid table Premiership quality team. That 1st half performance would of put many if not most Premiership teams to the sword. As fans we have to support Sven on his mission and not second guess his selections. Players will always have bad games and will always cope flake for it. So for all the people who want to join the selection committee and tell us all why Hobbs should play or Waghorn or anyone else. Give it a break. There are very good reasons why Sven picks the side, with no emotional baggage in Fan favourites. Example today is the abuse Ricardo is getting. Firstly, Sven explained after the game that he wanted to have a look at him in a game setting and not drop Weale after a bad performance. This was very smart. i am sure Sven must of told Chris that he is not being dropped, just that he is taking this game as an opportunity to see Ricardo. He had an easy night against a team more suited to being a mid div 1 side. I suspect Weale will be in the starting lineup on Friday. Ricardo will probably be a very good back and give weale a run for his money as the starter. Which is what we all should want. There is competion for all the other positions on the field. This the first time we have had that at Goalkeeper for a very long time.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Clough post match interview! Radio Derby bloke really turns of him about 4 minutes in. Very funny. 'Are you sure this job isn't too big for you and it's time you threw in the towel' or words to that effect. Almost feel sorry for him. Apart from I don't at all
lcfc_jme Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 I wasn't there earlier 'cos the only team I'm prepared to pay £30 to see us play is Forest (away), but from the stream I had up (useless lack of coverage for us in Nottingham 'cos of the ****ing rugby) the first 45 minutes earlier was the best I've ever seen a Leicester team play. Seriously, if any Prem side had dominated a game that much, it'd have been rimmed senseless. We were irresistable without ever seeming to play to our maximum; it was frighteningly good to watch and I had hoped for more of the same after the break. Unfortunately it wasn't to be and we sat off way too much for my liking, but I felt that - if needed - we could step it up at any stage and pummel them into submission again. It literally was the worst Derby side I've ever seen and I have to be honest, it did not sadden me in the slightest. Delighted with the result, delighted with our league position, delighted with our form and delighted with how bad that sheepy bunch of shit is.
ajthefox Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 There hasn't been a better 45 minutes played by any side in the championship this season. We were unbelievable in the first half. Sat back more than we needed to in the second half but we were still obviously the better team. Kingy was fantastic today. Took his goal brilliantly as usual but he was absolutely everywhere as well. His play off the ball really is so underrated. I just run out of things to say about him he is unbelieveable and he is all ours! And **** me Yakubu's goal was amazing!! Nobody can tell me Jermaine Beckford could do that! Not sure about all this Ricardo bashing. I was surprised to see him replace Weale today given recent performances but how the hell are you all damning him when he didn't even have a save to make all game? Oh shit and I forgot to say.. How good was Gallagher today?? Definitely wasn't that good, we were playing keep ball for a while without really doing much. Plus how you can quantify a statement like that when you won't have seen like 80% of the championship matches is just abserd.
Kitchandro Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Our second half against Doncaster was better but it was still a very good half. We didn't try for most of it but when we turned it on it was devastating.
Captain... Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Definitely wasn't that good, we were playing keep ball for a while without really doing much. I agree with this, Derby had lined up to defend deep, so we kept the ball and passed it around at the back always had options available and frustrated Derby by keeping the ball away from them. This was most evident when Ricardo and Mee (I think) spent a few minutes just passing the ball between themselves until the Derby players got frustrated and were drawn further up the pitch. We then sprung the trap and hit them very fast. Tactically the first half was spot on, but we only showed glimpses of amazing attacking football. Second half Derby were more positive in their approach and and we didn't look half as good, maybe we were stuck in second gear, but it didn't matter by then we had won the game. I do think Sven should have changed things around earlier though, if he wants to keep a big squad happy then players need more than 10 minutes, we were cruising at half time, give Waggy/Dyer half an hour to show what they can do, and add impetus to a team that was playing comfortably at walking pace. Finally Oakley was OK, I'm not his biggest fan, and I was being hyper critical when watching him, decent on the ball, but considering he is an experienced player and captain of the team, making his first start or a while he didn't really dominate the midfield nor look particularly up for it saying that he didn't need to be as Derby were so poor, a useful back-up, and hopefully it's only a matter of time before we make King the Club captain.
ibbosuk Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 I like your contradiction: - /// "thought Mee was fantastic today. - Ricardo WILL drop us in the shite for sure!!"!/// I remember back in the days that Mee was not anything anybody would let near a defencew line. There is no contradiction in what I said. (Dont just read it,understand it).....
Tommeh Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Still absolutely buzzing after that. Completely bossed the sheep all over. Navigation before and train back were both class. Derby fan on another forum said our support 1st half was as good as he's seen at pride park and the Poznans looked briliant.

Tommeh Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 How many people did it? Near impossible to tell whilst doing it yourself, vast majority though I'd imagine going by that reaction
Benji Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Brilliant to watch King run rings around Savage
Parafox Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 IMHO, Great display first half, took the expected battering in 2nd with no real threat to us, Ricardo did ok but not really tested. Gallagher good, van Aanholt looks impressive Thought we'd seen the goal of the day from Yak, then Rooney goes and does THAT!!!!

Fosse Boy Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 I just fucking LOVE watching Leicester play at the moment. First goal was a proper Gazelles at head height mental. Feeling sorry for Weale though. I really don't see that Ricardo adds anything more to the team than he does.
Wycombe Fox Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Just had a look at our stats; 2009/10 Played 31, 48 points, +7 GD, 6th position 2010/11 Played 31, 48 points, +1 GD, 7th position. Impressive after such a crap start to this season.
Jakemoore Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Weale was obviously hard done by, but Ricardo looked quality. He was confident, his distribution was second to none and he has that cocky nature which separates a good goalkeeper from the rest. Can definitely tell he's experienced and played at the highest level. And his commanding of the back line was refreshing to see. What game were you watching?!?! Did you miss him flapping at the ball and kicking it less then half way up the pitch straight in to the path of a sheep player? Seriously, he was cocky first half but second half he was shockingly bring Weale back
Uncle Monty Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Just had a look at our stats; 2009/10 Played 31, 48 points, +7 GD, 6th position 2010/11 Played 31, 48 points, +1 GD, 7th position. iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 How many people did it? I was at the bottom so could see everyone above. Top rows did it, big gap in the middle then the bottom also did it. Wasn't as good as I expected.

Parafox Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Rooney scored before the Yak HAH! Yeah I know , but I didnt SEE it till MOTD later
Corky Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Always good to beat Derby, and that was very comfortable and efficient from us. The first half we were so in control, passed the ball around with ease and got forward well. Vassell had one disallowed before the Yak scored a beauty, one touch on the thigh, next on the other and bang. Could've had another with Gallagher shooting just wide before the clincher, lovely one-touch passing move, cracking run by Kingy and a nice slot home. Second half Derby were improved (they couldn't be much worse) but we were rarely threatened, and the match drifted towards the end, but no matter. Three points, clean sheet, double over Derby, superb.
Heskey2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Just watched the game again this morning and i can honestly say re/ people who are comparing it to a premiership performance some of the movement (especially for 2nd goal) was more like Barcelona standard than prem! It was beautiful to watch i'm so proud to be a City fan absolutely buzzing, The other thing i'd like to point out is i have next to no idea who i would start if all players were fit, still rate Hobbs and Tunny, Vitor and Bruno was playing well recently (and i'm not his biggest fan) in midfield Abe, Wellens, Moussa, all have pedigree, and upfront well, the list is endless. This shows a great strength in depth and if we can play like that against a 'competitive' (ish) Derby with Oakley in our side just imagine what we could do with out him!! happy days, chuffed to bits, bring on the Bristol!!!
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Just want to add that we were only playing Derby, a team on a real slump right now. We were quality though, first half performance and control of the game was immense but, gotta keep it in perspective. I have to say that the support yesterday was superb from start to finish. Song after song from the city faithful. Svens put pride back into the side again. Onwards and upwards.
