Nick Posted 30 July 2011 Posted 30 July 2011 is this thread finally dead . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ? Let's hope so.
wellyfox Posted 30 July 2011 Posted 30 July 2011 WOW five day time hours and nothing said in here. Can any ITK say if this is a record????????????
MikeyT Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 did NM play for BCFC yesterday? According to their OS yes. City: James; Carey (Edwards 85), Fontaine, Wilson (Nyatanga 56), McAllister; Adomah (Taylor 70), Skuse (Reid 70), Elliott (Bolasie 83), Campbell-Ryce (Kilkenny 56); Maynard (Woolford 79), Pitman (Stead 70). Unused subs: Carey.
The People's Hero Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 I don't think we need to panic re getting a striker in. If we do continue with 4-3-3, the two 'sides' of the front three are already sorted with all the options we have and then Nugent will do a job up front, with Waghorn, Howard and Kermorgant as options. We also have Schlupp as an option although with only a 5 man bench, I can't see him getting a look in. In short, whilst I agree we could do with a proven goalscorer, I do think the issue has been slightly overstated. We can always do business in January and if Maynard has not signed a new deal by then and Bristol City unlikely to be challenging for promotion, a deal may be struck then. We will see. Personally, I'm happy with what we've got. For now.
ithuriel Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Think we will get an alternative target in, Sven or the club said they had alternative's i heard or read somewhere, maybe here I guess Bristol have to hope now that a club that has so far not bothered all summer suddenly become very interested and pay a large sum of money or that they can persuade Maynard to sign a new contract, which will not be cheap otherwise he walks after this coming season.
Raw Dykes Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Happy with Nugent to be honest. Me too, but as soon as he misses a game, I think it's really going to show. I just don't think we need to rely on the current backup striker options in Waghorn, Kermorgant and Howard when we can afford to bring in someone at least as good as Nugent. Maybe we can wait until January, but I think it's a bit risky, and unnecessary.
dpjfox Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 I dont see this "new striker" as an alternative to Nugent, more as a replacement for Vassell in a 4-3-3 or a partner for Nugent in a 4-4-2
thybluefox Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Aye, I see the new striker playing centrally and pushing Nugent out wide, replacing Vassell. But then we have option of playing Nugent centrall and Vassell on the right if we need to.

I feel that nugent is a very good addition but i am unsure that he is the striker that will score us the goals to win the league. He will be the supplier and the creater of the goals for the 'goal scorer' and of course get a few in the process.

Nicky Maynard will sign a new 3 year deal with Bristol City F.C BY Friday 5th of August 2011 and will be anounced on the official bcfc website on Sat 6th of August 2011 for 25k a week and a clause in the contract of personal terms stating that should a prem come in with a bid regardless of the 20% sell on clause to his previous club Crewe Alexandra then if he wants to leave for that prem club he will be aloud to do so. Nicky personaly said that one of the main reasons for staying in Bristol is that his partner Tee is expecting there first child & it wouldn't be fare to move anywhere at present plus his dream & focus is purely getting into the prem. Everton & Liverpool managers are both keeping a close eye on Maynard from now until the Han transfer opens to see if Maynard picks up any injurys on his knee & see how well he does for Bristol City before they will put any bids in. Thats the latest news on Nicky Maynard & from the horses mouth so to speak...Good luck to both our clubs for the coming season...

Yeah it appears that our interest in Maynard has waded and we are looking at other targets, good luck to yourself in the upcoming season

Thats the latest news on Nicky Maynard & from the horses mouth so to speak...Good luck to both our clubs for the coming season... Good for you, you've played what looked like a weak hand strongly and I'm 99% sure you've held on to him However if a Prem club hasn't come in for him when he's got a year left on his contract and they can use that as a bargaining tool, then they're certainly not going to come in for him when he's under contract albeit with a minimum price release clause as there's no bargaining position. The lad feels he owes you something, loves it around Bristol or lacks ambition, and wants to be the big fish in the small pond, he'll prob go on to score 1 in 2 ish and his goals will help you over the 50 point barrier to avoid relegation, but as you've not improved whilst the division has got much harder I can't see you doing better than that. Well done though
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Are Maynards grandparents the ones that make wine gums? Heard a rumour
Spudulike Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 So now where will Bristol get the money from to buy the defenders their fans say they desparately need Gonna be a long hard season for them.
thybluefox Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 From what Bristol fans have been saying, they have strikers ready to replace maynard, but are weak in other areas of the pitch. Makes sense to me to sell him and use the cash to buy some better players (as it doesn't seem like their owners are forthcoming with their own cash). Still I'm sure he'll enjoy scrabbling round in midtable obscurity for a few more seasons.

Kent Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Would Nugent be more likely to replace Gallagher on the left...as that is his preferred side? If we get a striker in then I'd put money on Gallagher and Nugent being the two first choice wingers, they can alternate sides during a game.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 If we get a striker in then I'd put money on Gallagher and Nugent being the two first choice wingers, they can alternate sides during a game. Yep most definitely would have Nugent playing left wing as he was devastating there for PNE. Just a top striker now with Gally on the other wing needed IMO. Vassell I get the feeling is going to be the starting eleven however.
wurmer Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Do we have a vet around who can put this thread out of it's misery, please. I can't bear the suffering any more.
deep blue Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 If we get a striker in then I'd put money on Gallagher and Nugent being the two first choice wingers, they can alternate sides during a game. That being the case, would it be a goer to play Vassell in the middle? He looked quite potent yesterday, capable of very fast bursts, and many have said that they think he'd be better used down the centre. We have other options too for the central position - Howard, Schlupp and Kermogant - which gives a variety of styles which can be deployed depending on the circumstances/opposition.
