Something we need to sort out though, his contract runs out here at the end of the season just in time for the euros, seen it happen loads of times before. Under MON we shat it when his contract was within 2 years of finishing, nothing seems to be happening regarding Svens deal and its concerning.

Back on Topic I;d take Kasper, looked a very good prospect last season and I think we are getting a good deal if its a million, we certainly arent going to lose anything at that price.

From a Leeds forum:

Jealous much?

Considering the Yak isnt here becuase Sven wasn't prepared to meet his wage demands says a lot to me. He is far from shafting us in the arse and int he people we're being linked with so far it is a team for the future as well.

Maynard, Peltier, Schemichel, Nugent even Derbyshire all have a lot of football left to play in their careers. And he clearly isnt splashing around unnecessarily. Not to mention the "self sustained" club model the new execs have been looking at. Some fans just talk shit about what they dont know, especially when it comes to other clubs.

We can safely say I bit the bait on that one though!

Except a million pound fee and further million or two in wages :P

Yeah at his age if we sell him on it should be for more than a million, if it isnt he will have had a poor time here.

I dont know what we are offering in wages, though like everyone we sign, I hope we arent just throwing money at people to get them to play for us, if we are you will see on the pitch it doesnt work.

United manager Simon Grayson has moved to clarify that the decision to accept an offer from Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is purely a footballing decision in an area he is keen to strengthen.

The club confirmed on Monday that an offer had been accepted from the Foxes, giving Schmeichel the opportunity to link up with his former Man City boss Sven Goran Eriksson at the Walkers Stadium.

"It's been something we've been looking at in that I'm trying to improve the back four or five of last year, and when you concede the number of goals that we did, it's obviously an area where one or two players are vulnerable and we need to change it around slightly," Grayson told Yorkshire Radio.

"I'm always looking to improve. Nobody's position is safe because I'm looking to do better than last year, and that's the line I'm going down. You have to do that.

"There's good options for goalkeepers and defenders out there so this was a footballing decision first and foremost, but obviously in this day and age with the Bosman ruling it quickens decisions up for you. We'll see where it goes.

"When Kasper goes we have other alternatives that will make us better and keep progressing us. Those are the decisions you make at times and that's decision we've taken at this moment in time.

"I have spoken to him to explain my decision. If no bid had come, it wouldn't have changed the position that we were looking for another goalkeeper and it would be highlighted even more. It's always an area I've been looking to strengthen. We have to make ourselves better and that's why you to make some difficult decisions at times."

from leeds OS. sounds like grayson wanted to get rid anyway

The United manager has been consistently linked with goalkeepers since April, and he says he is close to completing one deal.

"We've been linked with many players in different positions," he said.

"A week or so ago, before all this with Kasper, we agreed a deal, subject to a medical, with a goalkeeper who will come in, but we will be looking for another as well."

pfff rubbish if you ask me, I think Mr Grayson is trying to cover up the fact that he is selling because KS has one year left on his deal and didn't want to sign another one.

Anyway, far from amazing, but if we have a goalkeeper that isn't going to cost us on average a goal a game that's a rather big improvement!

I do reckon they've got Westwood. Leeds are a massive club.

Goalkeepers are precocious beasts and with a bit of love and faith they can perform wonders. Sven loves Kasper and will give him all the support needed to become his Dad.

Whilst slighly trying to dip his swedish meatballs in his danish bacon.

Basically we are going to pay too much for an average keeper then Leeds are going to use the money to go and get the keeper we should be signing.

What a pisser.

They aren't a Premiership one though and according to the Leeds fans, they're hardly a spendthrift one either.

All the speculation and pundits are saying Westwood's gone to Sunderland. It'll probably be Jason Brown.

Yeah I can see you're point mate, Is he definately going premiership then?

This bit of Graysons new statement makes it sound as if he feels KS isn't good enough for Leeds?

LEEDS UNITED have held talks with Coventry City goalkeeper Keiren Westwood, it has been claimed.

The Yorkshire Post reports that "tentative talks" have taken place with the Republic of Ireland international over the possibility of bringing him to Elland Road.

However sources in the north east claim that Westwood will sign for Sunderland in the coming weeks.

The former Carlisle United shot-stopper's contract at the Ricoh Arena is due to expire at the end of the month.

The Sky Blues have offered him a new deal but Westwood looks virtually certain to move to a Premier League club.

Coventry Telegraph.

Also, numerous reports on Twitter that he has agreed a four year deal with Sunderland that will go through on 1st July. Unlikely that Leeds bid to sabotage it will succeed apparently.

I remember reading a post on here that some guy reckoned he'd spoke to Andy Thorn abroad somewhere and that he said Westwood is going to Sunderland. That was a couple of weeks ago. I definitely hope Leeds don't get him anyway!

Read all about it!!!!!

Leeds manager SG admits that the club have let the best goalie they have ever seen slip through their fingers as they wouldn't give him the payrise he wanted.

I feel such a fool said Simon Grayson.

It's blatant that Leeds don't rate Schmeichal but so what. I trust Sven's opinion over Larry's who was a shit house himself at times but our fans minds are clouded by the final season he had with us under O'Neill. He was regularly crap before that.

If Leeds wanted to keep him they wouldn't accept a million rats, which is nothing for a player of his age.

Let's hope Svennis can improve him, he's looked good on the occasions i've seen him.

Didn't someone on this thread say Leeds conceded 65 goals with him in goal from 40 appearances last season?

Westwood will not be going to Leeds!

Do you think we would be going for Kasper if we didn't already know that Westwood is a no no?

Westwood will be at Sunderland and Leeds will end up with Jason Brown
