Guest ttfn Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 I really hope the Guardian commission Fez to write an article on this. Would be good to see something in a top newspaper from somebody who actually understands the club.
inckley fox Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 Not sure Top can win, Sven's had a year, some people wouldn't have agreed with his sacking unless we were rock bottom. There must be a point in time other than being in that predicament that it's okay to say goodbye. He hadn't done a good job, I struggle to see how we can say he did. If we'd fired him back end of last season it would have been too soon, in the summer we'd have said 'let's see what he can do with a summer to build a side', anything later than the quarter-season mark and it'd be too late. For someone to come in, put up 20 million in funds and then, after a year, see us in mid-table with a side that finished top 6 in 2010 it seems reasonable to be just a little unhappy.

5waller5 Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 What an utterly terrible, short-sighted decision. Many of these points have been made elsewhere, but I am fuming at this. Sven brought most of these players in. Ok, they haven't gelled as a unit yet, but by and large we are agreed that they are players easily good enough to get us up. They did not sign to wear a fox on their chest; they signed for a shit load of money and a chance to play for one of the most highly respected managers in the world. It is clear that the issue was not the players we'd got in but how they were fitting together as a team. Sven's biggest mistake was not getting in a proper first team coach after Hamann's departure. This placed a lot of pressure on Sven and Faz to deliver the coaching side; something which is certainly not Sven's strong point. Arguably Sven should have jettisoned Fazackerly to save himself, because it's clear that the match preparation was lacking. The players themselves also need to take a long, hard, look at themselves. They have not performed to the standards they have achieved in the past, and ultimately they are largely responsible for costing a man his job. As for the Thais, they've shown that they have no idea what they are doing. We are 2 points off the play-offs, it's not like the promotion dream is dead or dying. I was as disappointed as anyone else on Saturday, having travelled a total of 400 miles to watch 2 crap games of football in a week. But Sven has proven himself as a class-act, and has taken 78 points from 48 games as manager despite rarely having the opportunity to have a stable squad. It's their money, but it's our club. Once again, we're the laughing stock of the division. I've always admired Sven's quiet dignity and calm manner. It may be 20 years until we get another manager to come through our revolving door with a CV as glittering as his, but it will be a lot longer than that before we get a greater gentleman. Sven, it's been a pleasure. Absolutely agree. I'm gutted to see Sven leave - A man of integrity and dignity. I really am worried by this decision too ... got a feeling we are going to throw alot of hope away with another string of less able managers signing shed loads of average players for large fees. Please let it be a surprise that the new manager is actually someone to respect.

The Sven Revolution Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 I think your anti-Sven stance and the one of your fellow Sven-haters sums you lot up perfectly for me. From the moment that man walked through our doors, it's been all but negativity from your corner. He could but fail. What a terrific attitude! Enjoy your happy Monday evening with your cheap bottle of champagne. I'm just livid. ****ing joke of a club this has become with an increasing number of joke fans. I'm out (for a while). I'm with you. There was too much venom in some of the supporters against Sven. We will go 4th and above West Ham if we beat them on Sat, it only October! Unfair to Sven, but he will get a decent job elsewhere may be in the fuc*kin premiership, but its LCFC who will suffer because of this! The players should be crying right now, they should be actually crying right now! The manager did not deserve this, 2 points off POs! Bad choice TOP.
Tielemans63 Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 Ticket prices are one reason, but the sacking of Sven coupled with the bad results as of recent will add to the decline in attendances even more. The recent development won't go down well with a lot of Leicester fans. Soon the average will hit the 18'000 mark and the Thais as well as their consortium buddies will be out quicker than you can say Theo Zagorakis. True, although it could go the other way. Thais appoint a new manager - fans flock to see how he gets on - team's form picks up - more fans come through the turnstiles. The fact that attendances have gone from 27k down to 21k might be a major factor in Sven's sacking?

MC Prussian Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 When Martin O'Neill is back I think attendances will boost... With a maximum of 22'000 fans.
Captain... Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 I am pretty shocked by the decision, so much so I'm posting here for the first time in a while, but I can't say I'm not a little bit excited by it all, who will be the new manager, we have money and a talented underperforming squad I disagree with those who think we wouldn't be a desirable club to manage. I was never convinced by Sven from the start, the way he systematically took apart Pearson's team and replaced them with loanees, which spectacularly back fired when we failed to get promotion for the simple reason other teams wanted it more. We have been consistently inconsistent this season and have deserved to lose those games we did and apart from Forest I can't think of many games where we didn't end up with the points our performance merited, and that points tally is not good enough if we want to get automatic promotion. We were definitely improving this season, we had our own players for a start and Sven had finally replaced Weale with someone better than him, started playing a settled back 4 (and getting clean sheets) but we just looked passionless, like we expected to be able to just turn up and beat teams and then not really know what to do when it didn't happen. The minimum I expect from Leicester is players to give it their all and if we are beaten by a better team I will never complain, when one player isn't playing with passion and energy the problem is with the player, but when it is the whole team then you have to look at the management and coaching staff. Add to that the fact that Sven has been here a year and he still doesn't know what our best 11/formation is should we really be surprised? I think the timing is odd but why wait? It was pretty much a given that if we didn't get promoted this season Sven would be fired, at the moment we don't look like getting promoted this season, and I couldn't see Sven turning it around so why have another couple of months of inconsistency and false dawns, we stuck by Holloway and look where that got us. When the new manager comes in he will have a couple of months to assess the squad and start looking for a player with pace that we so badly need in January, I don't get waiting until christmas then sack him if we haven't improved because the new manager wouldn't have time to assess the squad and get the right players in, and end up panic buying. We will only know if this was a good decision next June, but I just hope that whoever is brought in is afforded as much time to get the team playing well as Sven was. Thanks Sven and good luck with wherever you end up, I don't blame him or hate him, I just don't think he was the right man for the job. At least now we will stop being linked with Beckham, especially if we end up with McClaren...
Trav Le Bleu Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 OS - Sven and Faz Gone - Rudlkin and Stowell in Charge Leicester City Football Club has confirmed today (Monday 24 October) that, by mutual agreement, Sven-Göran Eriksson has ceased to be the First Team Manager, with immediate effect.First Team Coach Derek Fazackerley has also left the Club. The Club and its Board of Directors would like to thank Sven and Derek for the contribution they have made to Leicester City during their 13 months at King Power Stadium. Academy Director Jon Rudkin and Coach Mike Stowell will jointly assume the role of acting Manager of the first team, with assistance from Development Coach Steve Beaglehole. This will begin with training on Tuesday morning ahead of Saturday's npower Championship trip to West Ham United. The process of recruiting a new permanent Manager will begin in the coming days. There will be no further comments from the Club or any comment on the recruitment process until an appointment is made. Suggests no one already lined up? <_<
SMX11 Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 I feel for Sven but he has had plenty of time to develop a reasonable understanding of what his best team is and what formation we are best suited to. He has failed to do either of these and as such we have struggled to gain any consistency. I have also found his brand of football to be quite boring at times especially this year where the majority of games we seem to pass without any real intent or threat . I know what I would do if I was in his position but I just hope he doesn't go for a name instead a manager that knows this level and how to get the best out of what he has. If MON wants the job give it to him but if he doesn't want it then get someone in like Billy Davies or Roberto Di Matteo. Relatively young managers who have gotten out of this division and play attractive attacking football.

Fox1994 Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 Personally i feel this is a shocking decision. Yes we havnt had the best start to the season but to sack the manager when we are still very much in touch with automatic spots is a joke. All it takes is 4-5 wins in a row and we would be right in the mixer. It makes me ashamed to be a leicester supporter because our club is turning into such as circus. I really do no not understand what the owners are thinking!

MPH Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 Would love to see MON here, of course but Had the Thais been in charge when MON was here first time around then he would of been sacked after the Sheff utd game... Tad harsh considering we are two points off of 5th place. He's gone now though... feel sorry for the guy.

zigga-zagga Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 As I said, ticket prices are a joke for us, worse than yours. We could always go back to last season though, with you for the most part challenging for the top 6 and often the top 2, and us in midtable, we still had a higher average home attendance. I thought you were massive? In all honesty we've never been massive, I'm old enough to remember the bad old days BC (Before Clough) when crowds were below 10000. Ticket prices are a joke, against Derby all tickets were £33 and they wondered why it wasn't full. On a different note, do you honestly think MON is a realistic prospect? I reckon your owners wouldn't cough up enough money after all they've already spent. MON fell out with the Villa board because they wouldn't spend enough money
marbelladave Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 Been out all day and have only just seen the news. Ruthless discision by the owners but I feel it was already getting close to the point where keeping Sven on and bringing in a coach was no longer viable, things had simply gone too far. Some people are saying that, with us just a couple of points off a playoff place, this is a bad decision, but I disagree. Given our resources we are woefully underperforming in a league that has little consistency and no real class. If we were playing anything like as well as we should, given the payers we have, we would be top 2, no question.

Would you want to loose the god status?

Only 5 wins in 13 says you're spot-on There's always been a groupe of people saying, "but what if" or "win the next game and xyz will happen" The problem was that could go on ad-infinitum with Sven winning one, losing one & drawing one which isn't good enough.
