Ricey Posted 7 April 2012 Posted 7 April 2012 Weird game. We weren't at our best but took our chances. Doncaster missed 4 absolute sitters, despite them being awful we still gifted them 4 fantastic chances due to poor defending, which is worrying. Still, 1 down, 5 to go.

Sooner we get rid of that clown the better. Thought we did a decent job on them today at times, although I expected us to dig in more after the 2nd goal was gifted to us, really thought we could have had 7 or 8 if we had kicked on but no complaints with a 4-0 win and 4 different scorers, I couldnt give a monkeys if Gallagher chooses to celebrate with the fans, one goal against rock bottom Doncaster doesnt make up for his lack of bottle over the last 3 months, he can bugger off with Mills for me. I thought Beckford did ok, but again another blank, certainly not prolific enough but his first touch doesnt help him either. Marshall is looking like a winner, plays with genuine interest and looks a real talent.

The defence is slagged. if Donny had a striker like Beckford .... bla bla bla. We have to beat them all even if the sides in our opinion are not "Leicester class"..... and we have failed to do so on numerous occasions. "Now we need to beat Millwall and Ipswich or were gone again" - honestly we have had to beat them anyway so why the negativity. The total lack of constructive comments is really strange. Even if we beat Real Madrid the comments would be " oh yes but Zidane didn`t play". Come on lets show a little positivity - 4-0 is 4-0! Yours speechlessly Just thank God we didn't win 6-0 or the knives would really have been out for Pearson and his lack-lustre winning performance papering over the obvious cracks which any and every simpleton seems to be able to spot... In my dimension I would personally execute any twat who plays Football Manager.

MC Prussian Posted 7 April 2012 Posted 7 April 2012 Pleased with the result and I guess it doesn't reflect the flow of the game for most part. Then again, we had a couple of chances ourselves and yes, it could've ended 6-2 or 7-3. Just seen Ikeme's howler on the Football League Show... Oh my. Marshall with another great strike from distance, he just can't stop scoring this way, can he? Glad Drinkwater and Gallagher scored, the latter should get some of his confidence back. Also, nice to have King back. Just in time for the vital last 5 regular season games. Hopefully, we can take this form into the away game on Easter Monday. Ipswich have an odd record at home so far, but seem to score for fun, as well.

nlukka Posted 8 April 2012 Posted 8 April 2012 Moved my ST from the Kop today to sit with some friend's in the corner of the West Stand and Family Stand. Wasn't sure whether it was just because I was sat there that the atmosphere seemed especially flat, but today did have a very strange feeling about it. After the disappointment of Peterborough away last week i couldn't really be bothered with the match today, felt more like going through the motions. All in all, happy with the win - especially with Drinkwater and Marshall. Thought the defence was a bit shaky today, the clean sheet flattered them slightly. I hate that the optimist in me now looks at the league table thinking it's still on. In a strange way, I'd prefer if the teams above just killed us off, rather than this slow lingering death we've had since December. But then again it's at least fun like this!

Sorry but I can tell you dislike Peterborough. If you put PUFC last week vs DRFC this week you'd see at least a 2 goal win for the Posh.

Guy Posted 8 April 2012 Posted 8 April 2012 A good result, even if Ikeme's clanger was to an extent the turning point of the game (from what I saw of the highlights a short time ago). We were unlucky not to be three up at half time though and from what I saw, Schmeichel was only troubled once all game, from Coppinger. As others have said already when playing down our 4-0 , this was against a team who are nailed on certs for being in League One next season now. That said though, it was precisely the sort of team that's been causing us problems all season long and that we have succumbed to on an alarmingly regular basis in other games - until today that is! If only we'd played like this in both games against Bristol City, Peterborough, Forest, Barnsley, Millwall - and any other team we've messed up against to date in the lower half of the table, then we'd be safely in the play offs and probably looking good for automatic by now! While we now look equally as nailed on certs to remain in this division for next season now, there is still that frustrating tendency to still hope we could sneak 6th if Brighton or Cardiff mess up. It would take a whole manner of unlikely results for that to happen though - as well as us winning possibly all five (certainly four wins and a draw at any rate). Pigs might fly or the King Power peregrine or falcon of Sven's might return!

A bit of running around but a lot of poor decision-making and a failure to actually produce anything. We scored 4 goals against a terrible side and did he get one? Or even an assist? For me, again, he did minimal. The ovation he got coming off was seemingly more attributable to being in the aftermath of the goal than for anything he'd actually produced. As some others have said it was a very strange atmosphere, felt like there was nothing to play for and the atmosphere was a reflection of that. Yes, we could make the play-offs and it's not mathematically impossible but our defensive performance today is reason enough to believe that it cannot happen. If Doncaster had any potency then they would have scored two, and that was by half time alone. I think Marshall showed today that he is going to be a big player for us next season and Drinkwater was much improved too. Those wanting Pearson gone, how about we give him a summer to try and find a couple more players of this ilk? And whilst he was good playing out wide today I thought he was just as good at Peterborough when playing through the middle. Playing in 'the hole' he can get on the ball a lot more and I for one would be happy to see him in the 3 of a 4-3-3. I think that we need a real ball-winner protecting the back four, particularly if we've got Morgan and Bamba surging forward. There were a couple of times today when Bamba or Morgan went on a foray forward and both Wellens and Drinkwater had also gone rather than one of them having the sense to drop into the back line and cover. I do like Wellens, and I think he has a real quality on the ball, but if we're going to be progressive I think we need to bin him and get in a Tiote/Catermole/Parker/Mikel style player. Someone that will protect the defence, get stuck in, cover the yards, pick up a few bookings along the way, but make sure that no-one gets an easy ride in the middle of the park. To speculate wildly, Emanuel Frimpong on loan?! Glad to see King back, wanted him to bag a goal but at least he got an assist. I think Nugent has burnt out along with our season so maybe time to give Schlupp a bit more of a chance if we're not going to give him a go ahead of Beckford. All in all it didn't really feel like a 4-0 win. Everyone is saying that they'll keep going until it's impossible to make the play-offs but I think we all know it's passed us by. Hopefully for the last few games we can keep winning like this to give us a bit of hope ahead of next year and to give those idiots calling for Pearson's sacking a little less ammunition. . Have been going on about a holding midfielder for months now - if your full backs are going to bomb on then it's vital someone sits/covers. Pelts has looked out of position at times when he has gof forward but to me he's only doing what Pearson is asking him to do. Don't think any of the current squad can do this job so to me it's number one priority to get one in - Shaun Derry or someone similar who has the experience would do fine just to get us promoted - jay spearing would be great but can't see it happening
