brockmyster Posted 7 April 2012 Posted 7 April 2012 Like others have said result has masked the poor performance at times. Marshall looks like an absolute find, and good to see Beckford shut his critics up. Nice for King to get some match time with what i thought was a decent performance from him.
Christoph Posted 7 April 2012 Posted 7 April 2012 Though we had a fairly decent game that flattered us a bit with a team that looked pretty terrible. Well taken goals but never thought we dominated until the last 25 minutes but we did always look fairly in control.

Dan Posted 7 April 2012 Posted 7 April 2012 Well I can't ever complain at a 4-0 but people will have to realise that Doncaster's performance today has got to be up there with the worst ever produced at this level, I honestly think when we lost 6-1 at Portsmouth we weren't that bad. Did the job and did it well in the end, a good side would've punished us but a win's a win and on we move. Refuse to use the P-O word until we win both Ipswich and Millwall, which I highly doubt will happen. Marshall's better on the left cutting in I reckon. MOTM for me today.

The season is hardly over we have another 5 games then it is officially over, I know what you mean but to discount the possibility of not making the playoffs until it is mathematically impossible or when the teams above us increase the gap in points 5 points to make with 5 games to go, is a nice possibility dare I dream that we could do it, yes we have been inconsistent but if the players aren't fired up for this then when will they ever be?

Of course it doesn’t make everything ok, and most of us are't getting carried away , but surely most fans can see that the team building is moving in the right direction (albeit too slowly it seems for some). Pearson has got a good eye for talent and has brought in some cracking young players who will surely only get better and so will the team eventually if the board and fans give him time. He’s also had to deal with some inflated egos and it seems that the penny is starting to drop in most quarters that no-one walks into a team on reputation with Pearson as boss. They quite rightly have to earn their place in every game.

Doncaster more than matched us for first 20 minutes and could easily have been ahead of us in the early stages. The turning point for me was the Piquionne injury. Up until he went off he was absolutely bossing Morgan and Bamba then his hamstring injury having made a mug of Bamba was a major blow to Doncaster. The killer blow was losing Diouf quickly followed by Drinkwater's goal. Saunders must have been livid when Ikeme turned the ball into his own net. From that point onwards Doncaster didn't look like a team at all. Their heads dropped and our average game took control. Aside from the modest scoreline there was nothing today to suggest that we're destined for anymore than a midtable finish. I hope i'm proved wrong but a more capable side would have swept us aside quite easily today.

Standing ovation when he came off was fully deserved. Met him before the match as well, and i can honestly say he was fantastic with the fans and seemed like a nice bloke - alot of people have also said this before.

flowwolf Posted 7 April 2012 Posted 7 April 2012 Great end to the game, I'm happy with that. Defence could still do with tightening up a hell of a lot. If Donny could hit the target we could have been in trouble. Spot on. Our defense was a shambles , any side with even a mediocre strike force against us today and we would have had our pants down. Even Schmeichel was abysmal today. I counted at leased four of his so called kicks that went straight out for a Doncaster throw in . Sorry but he is not Prem quality and even had the nerve to try to bollock Pelts for a ball in front of him that he did not shout for and should have called for leaving pelts to boot out of touch. For the first time in my life I left the ground not with a feeling of " great what a win " but more with the rational of "well they were bottom of the league and for long periods we did not look that much better" Mid table mediocrity is all we can look forward to unless the owners grab the broom that will sweep clean this club in the close season starting with Pearson.

A bit of running around but a lot of poor decision-making and a failure to actually produce anything. We scored 4 goals against a terrible side and did he get one? Or even an assist? For me, again, he did minimal. The ovation he got coming off was seemingly more attributable to being in the aftermath of the goal than for anything he'd actually produced. As some others have said it was a very strange atmosphere, felt like there was nothing to play for and the atmosphere was a reflection of that. Yes, we could make the play-offs and it's not mathematically impossible but our defensive performance today is reason enough to believe that it cannot happen. If Doncaster had any potency then they would have scored two, and that was by half time alone. I think Marshall showed today that he is going to be a big player for us next season and Drinkwater was much improved too. Those wanting Pearson gone, how about we give him a summer to try and find a couple more players of this ilk? And whilst he was good playing out wide today I thought he was just as good at Peterborough when playing through the middle. Playing in 'the hole' he can get on the ball a lot more and I for one would be happy to see him in the 3 of a 4-3-3. I think that we need a real ball-winner protecting the back four, particularly if we've got Morgan and Bamba surging forward. There were a couple of times today when Bamba or Morgan went on a foray forward and both Wellens and Drinkwater had also gone rather than one of them having the sense to drop into the back line and cover. I do like Wellens, and I think he has a real quality on the ball, but if we're going to be progressive I think we need to bin him and get in a Tiote/Catermole/Parker/Mikel style player. Someone that will protect the defence, get stuck in, cover the yards, pick up a few bookings along the way, but make sure that no-one gets an easy ride in the middle of the park. To speculate wildly, Emanuel Frimpong on loan?! Glad to see King back, wanted him to bag a goal but at least he got an assist. I think Nugent has burnt out along with our season so maybe time to give Schlupp a bit more of a chance if we're not going to give him a go ahead of Beckford. All in all it didn't really feel like a 4-0 win. Everyone is saying that they'll keep going until it's impossible to make the play-offs but I think we all know it's passed us by. Hopefully for the last few games we can keep winning like this to give us a bit of hope ahead of next year and to give those idiots calling for Pearson's sacking a little less ammunition.

And if we/they would have taken their/our chances it might have been a bit different. Final third they were awful (worse than us) Anyway, a good result and we'll keep moving on up. Drinky and Ben were good today IMO.
