Jimmy Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 So is Waghorn, so is Nugent, so is Futacs, so is Vardy. And they aren't on £30,000 a week. The Nugent/Beckford partnership really wasn't that good and didn't get the best out of either, Nugent was better and needs to be starting games. As a result we've got Beckford who shouldn't be in the starting line-up starting the season on the bench. You can't have a player on those wages on the bench, and we can't be starting with the strikeforce that proved last season that it isn't good enough. The solution is to move Beckford on and make sure we get financially stable. why the **** do you give a shit what he's on? are you personally paying it? no so shut the **** up about it. They were starting to form a great partnership until we had to move systems as we ran out of midfielders, Waghorn has the touch of a rapist and puts row z in danger with half his shots, Futacs is a target man and cored less then either and Vardy is completely unproven in the football league let alone the championship but simply on the grounds he isn't Beckford you have anointed him the best thing going
Mark_w Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 why the **** do you give a shit what he's on? are you personally paying it? no so shut the **** up about it. Beckford's touch is also awful, and he contributes considerably less to the team. Why pay 3x the amount a decent striker at this level like Waghorn is on for someone who, if at all, is only fractionally better. It wasn't ever a great partnership and I am not massivley anti-Beckford, I think he'll do a decent job for a Championship club, I just don't think he's done enough to prove his worth. If he's starting for us next season I'll back him 100% as I did last season.
ARM1968 Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 I don't think we can afford NOT to afford Beckfords wages. He will score the goals we need and those who keep calling for him to go will all be up his arse. It's the usual way. Beckford is quality and if we have even a scrap of ambition left people need to get behind the whole team - including Beckord - and stop acting like whinging little bitches!!
Mark_w Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 I don't think we can afford NOT to afford Beckfords wages. He will score the goals we need. Proven by him not doing so last season?
Leicfox Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Just checked the pic on twitter. Not what I had imagined. What did you imagine?
ARM1968 Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Proven by him not doing so last season? They ALL under performed last year. Even Kasper had his dodgy moments. Last year proved very little.
Mark_w Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 They ALL under performed last year. Even Kasper had his dodgy moments. Last year proved very little. No they didn't though. What makes you think Beckford is going to do any better than Nugent? He only scored 1 more goals than Gallagher (our Right Midfielder) last year, and provided fewer assists. Yet people love to stick the knife into him. You can't just say 'Beckford is going to get 20+ goals next season' when he has never done that at this level and has done very little at his time at Leicester to suggest otherwise. We made that mistake last year. Beckford is massivley overated because he did well at Leeds, a 'Massive' club who make a shit load of noise and get all the medias attention, certainly they did in League One. He did no better than Fryatt in League One and in the Championship, but Leicester fans still seem to have very mixed opinions of him. As I said I think Beckford can do a job in the Championship, but I think he is nothing more than an average/above average championship striker, and they shouldn't be on £30,000 a week. I know it isn't a popular opinion but it makes sense to me.
Jaspa Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 We get it,you don't like Beckford No He likes Waghorn, and will sacrifice anybody to keep him Personally, I like Waggy; but If he keeps on blasting over the bar and looking groggy I think we should move on
Mark_w Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 We get it,you don't like Beckford I do like Beckford though that's the point. He seems like a good influence behind the scenes, and obviously on his day can be a great player. I just don't think he did enough to suggest he should be on 3x as much as our other strikers. If he took a pay cut and was on a similar sensible wage to Nuge/Waggy/Futacs/Vardy then I'd be all for him staying (Although not starting with Nugent). I just don't see how people can say 'He's going to get 20/25/30 goals next year' when there is no reason to believe he will or even can. I'm sorry debate is obviously not wanted on this forum. He likes Waghorn, and will sacrifice anybody to keep him Not true, I'd be dissapointed because he is currently my favourite player (Not the player I think is the best), but I'd trust Nigel to get in a good replacement. I think the money we paid for Waggy was ludicrous as well, but I doubt his wages are anything near as high.
Babylon Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 why the **** do you give a shit what he's on? are you personally paying it? no so shut the **** up about it. I'm worried that people don't care about it. If someone costs £2.5m and is on £25-£35k, 9 league goals and only scoring is 7 league games is a piss poor return. Waghorn on loan as a kid scored more, Hume scored more, Dickov scored more, as have many others over the years who cost a fraction in fee and wages. If there is better value out there everyone should want that to be explored. If he had a track record in this league or above, then people would be a bit more relaxed about it and would put it down as a blip. The problem is he has never done it above league one. That's not to say he won't, but it's a glaring fact that won't change until he manages it. Can people not see why people are concerned?
Deucalion Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 If we played differently then Nugent and Beckford could work. On Tuesday against Hinckley we played a lot of long balls over the top to Vardy. It was pretty effective. I think Beckford works best with clever through balls from midfield, but if we don't have the players for that, I think he could chase a long ball almost as effectively as Vardy. Although it is early days, I didn't see anything which made me thing Vardy will start before Beckford. Vardy's first touch let him down sometimes and he seemed worryingly inaccurate in front of goal. The goal he did score was a gift from Nugent. For me, Beckford should start with Nugent and we need to provide better balls along the ground for him.

There's a Beckford thread to slag him off in tho
Schlupp Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Whats this thread meant to be about cause all I've seen is a beckford debate
Mark_w Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Can people not see why people are concerned? Nope, you must just have a vendetta against Beckford as well. There's a Beckford thread to slag him off in tho I wasn't slagging him off, and if it was considered that big a deal it would have been moved. Don't agree with me, so resorting to bitching about what thread this is being discussed in, very mature.
ARM1968 Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Funny there's a poll on the main forum which is running at over 70% wanting the guy to stay. There are just a few who really can't see why. Hopefully this season will change that. The bloke is quality.
Bert Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Just out of interest mate have you stopped working for the club/not posting any more info now you've stuck a massive photo of yourself on twitter?(I'm guessing it's you.... Haa) Just fancied a change mate until a decent new lcfc one pops up.
Happy Fox Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 If Leeds can afford him he will probably go their imo, but I suspect NP has made his mind up on whether he wants him or not?
Bert Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Just checked the pic on twitter. Not what I had imagined. What did you imagine?
Vlad the Fox Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 It's not a case of liking or disliking Beckford. Last season he wasn't good enough, i'm sure he'd admit that himself, next season he may prove his doubters wrong but to talk of him being better than our other strikers is a bit premature when he hasn't proved it. Hopefully after the shambles of last season he will show his worth along with a few other players who seemed to be effected by whatever was going on behind the scenes and suffered form as a result.
