Burmesefox Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 I'm not sure about beckford but I love nugent, however, correct me if I am wrong but beckford has scored more than nuggent since January. Just feel that beckford needs to settle in and he is doing just that under nige. Both becks and nugget need a target man to play off.... Enter futacs. Don't think we'll see becks and nugget play together but theyll rotate for one another.
ARM1968 Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 I'm not sure. Futacs could well come on as plan B, rather than start. Guess we'll see soon enough.
foxoffderby Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 What did you imagine? To be honest Bert I wish you had kept your identity a mystery. A bit like the caped crusader or something. All those years of following you on FT just waiting for a little snippet of information to come out or the next bit wisdom l would call a Bertism. Who could he be?, Were does he come from? Is he the Birch in disguise? Or is he just a myth like Kaiser Soze? It kept me guessing for years. It was a riddle wrapped up in a mystery, inside an engima Well I know now Bert is just a normal bloke like the rest of us who has to pay his council tax, do the weekley shop and gets pissed up on a weekend like the rest of us. I'm afriad you've let me down. I prefered the mythical creature that was Bert, not this reality you've uploaded.

Hack Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 So is Waghorn, so is Nugent, so is Futacs, so is Vardy. And they aren't on £30,000 a week. The Nugent/Beckford partnership really wasn't that good and didn't get the best out of either, Nugent was better and needs to be starting games. As a result we've got Beckford who shouldn't be in the starting line-up starting the season on the bench. You can't have a player on those wages on the bench, and we can't be starting with the strikeforce that proved last season that it isn't good enough. The solution is to move Beckford on and make sure we get financially stable. Mark, You make the most relevent point in relation to Beckford. Not that anyone else who wants him shipped out even thinks about ( I don't want him to leave as he should be Prem Quality), that he does have more pressure on him to score as he cost much more per week than other stikers in this division. He needs to show value for money, that may not be by just scoring, but in his general play. The debate about Beckford should be about value for money, which is fair, not about his ability, because it is clear he has it in bucket loads.
Guest ttfn Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 because he didnt bang 10+ in his first year with us Fixed that for you.

muzzy1981 Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 The above is subjective. Imo I think his skills are limited, poor control, poor at heading, can't jump, he has a simple game, a decent finisher but only on the big occasions. With the right strike partner, futacs? He could do well this season. This is the season that will define him and Pearson. I hope he proves me wrong and scores 25 league goals
Babylon Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 Funny there's a poll on the main forum which is running at over 70% wanting the guy to stay. There are just a few who really can't see why. Hopefully this season will change that. The bloke is quality. Right, firstly the poll is stupid because the options are fairly limited, which is why I've not even bothered voting. Secondly, even the most vocal on here about Beckford have mostly said they don't want him to leave, the opposite in fact. Thirdly, the last four lines of your post are exactly what people are scratching their heads about. Why are you so confident he is quality? What has he ever done above league one to make you so sure? He's 28 years old and in his first full season in this league got outscored by Matty Fryatt by a whopping 7 goals. Was outscored by Waghorn by three goals in his loan spell here... the list goes on. I hope the guy does bang them in for us I really do, I have nothing against the bloke. He's just been exceptionally poor value and so far done nothing to warrant the faith some people place in him. You talking about Beckford or Bert? How many of Fryatts goals were penos? I would hope that he might score more he's a CCC striker and nowt more I 'm afraid. Beckford does have more in his locker and with the right setup behind him he should do well. Those now pretending that they always had faith in his ability or seemingly turned their opinion over is narking bit. For me with a good midfield and a confident side he'll score goals. Who he'll work best with upfront is another story we are all waiting to see.
Ric Flair Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 I'd still rather have Beckford than not. He deserves to prove himself this season. Waghorn needs to buck his ideas up as we can't and wont accommodate a repeat skier. I swear his shooting has got worse, the Hull lot mentioned his eye for a roof over the bar an'all. Worrying. Nobody will pay Beckford what we're paying him, so it's a question of giving him another chance or cutting our losses. I believe he offers us far more than most and hence we would be foolish to get rid. Vardy, Nugent and Beckford can get 40-50 goals between them next season.
Nick Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 I've always thought the Beckford thing is a bit like the DJ thing.......... and err Torres I'll elaborate. For a striker like Torres you need a midfielder that spots his runs before he even receives the ball and puts passes through a defence on a one touch basis for a one touch natural finisher. (Otherwise you end up with some idiot who is always offside and the verbally ill guy who stands in front of you can't understand why and has clearly never played football and by the end of the season you wish him dead on a pole in front of L1.) Torres, DJ and JB all score in abundance with this type of service. We've been missing the guy in the middle with the vision for a number of seasons so these players I don't think have worked for us. (oh and the guy to pass to the guy in the middle - crazy considering the amount of CM's ) There. I said it.

I can't understand why we can't seem to coach some composure in front of goal into Waghorn. It would make such a difference to his game.

The poll has generated many responses, its a subject which seems to interest people and the results are pretty conclusive c. theres no need to be rude, I had a go at doing a poll, sorry if its not good enough for you

Guest Col city fan Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 It is a bit frustrating that you added 'he's not good enough' to the we should sell him option. Its clear that I should have added a 'value for money' option, or similar. Can't get it right every time though Mark. Its a subject of interest so I just had a go at doing one. Anyway, the topic was the most important thing, not my lack of prowess at designing Polls.
Happy Fox Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 Here is some Twitter news everyone has been craving Paul Ogden â€@pauloggy #htafc PELTIER CHASE: update coming shortly... (sorry@ronin16178, been out of Twitter circulation recently; reasons beyond my control).. Paul Ogden â€@pauloggy 2/2 : on #htafc/PELTIER. #LCFC value him at £850K (!) ("surplus"!), so Town have pulled out, unless and until that price comes WAY down.
foxesfan1989 Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 850k is more than a reasonably price! If the tinpot clubs can't afford it, tough s***
Bert Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 So they're willing to let him go for £750k but want the price to come way down? Twats.
