MGLCFC Posted 3 August 2012 Posted 3 August 2012 Would rather have a loanee centre back - De Laet, Moore and St Ledger can play right back.
foxfanazer Posted 3 August 2012 Posted 3 August 2012 Yep, but we still would be one player down. De Laet and Moore at right-back, but we still only have three centre backs one of which in Whitbread is injury prone. And if De Laet is ever called upon to cover centre back, then that would only leave us with Moore at right-back which just isn't strong enough. We really need a loan signing to replace Peltier and help our options in defence. Sam Hutchinson from Chelsea?
paulsherwood1 Posted 3 August 2012 Posted 3 August 2012 Rob Tanner just tweeted that we have had a bid for Anthony Gerrard rejected... There's your answer
kingfox Posted 3 August 2012 Posted 3 August 2012 Sam Hutchinson from Chelsea? Could be anybody, but looks as if Pearson wants flaming Anthony Gerrard. Would like someone like Craig Dawson or Sean Morrison though, two decent young players one of which is England U21 international.
Pub breath Posted 3 August 2012 Posted 3 August 2012 Average>>>>>>>Leeds' defence over the past 2 seasons This is true. To be a little more honest about it: 4 mortally obese men with rickets and a fear of men in polyester >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Leeds defence over the past 2 seasons
ealingfox Posted 3 August 2012 Posted 3 August 2012 So long, LP. Cheers for the winner v Cov first day. We have to be honest with ourselves, we can do, and we need to get better than Pelts. When was the last time we had a properly attacking right-back, someone who isn't afraid to take a man on and who hits the byline on a regular basis?

TrentFox Posted 3 August 2012 Posted 3 August 2012 Always thought he was pretty shoddy, happy to see him go. De Laet looking like a good replacement. I do like getting rid of the dead wood, mills, bamba, tunchev, peltier, oakley, howard, vassell, chamberlain, moussa and weale. 10 players. Our squad looks exciting to me, and isn't full of bench warmers and reserve crap. Funny how life moves on, isn't it ? Two years ago, most of those could have been playing first team football with the blessing of most on here. Fickle ol' business, sport !!

We really need a loan signing to replace Peltier and help our options in defence. We have Taft who has played England youth level and has had rave reviews in Sweden while out on loan, Parkes and Bolger have both played League 2 football and performed well for Bristol Rovers. If we can't get Anthony Gerrard then I really don't think Nige will bring in any one else just for the sake of numbers, 3 top level Championship centre backs with a couple youngsters to cover is the norm in this league. We've already seen what happens when we have 4 centre backs who think they all should start....it doesn't work well.
Danno Posted 3 August 2012 Posted 3 August 2012 Good riddance crap right back but cheers for the winner vs Cov.
ealingfox Posted 3 August 2012 Posted 3 August 2012 Naughton! Not that long ago, really. I suppose but he was only on loan, if only we could have made that permanent.

It's just because Whitbread is injury prone we could do with four, Bamba, Mills, St Ledger and Morgan were all pretty fit guys. However Whitbread isn't, he is a cracking player but his injury problems is a concern. I think out of our youngsters Liam Moore is our strongest in defence, and I would happily have him as back-up at right back. However I don't think Taft is ready yet we may see him 1 or 2 times this season though, but Parkes and Bolger are not good enough, Parkes has been around for ages now but still hasn't broke through.

Parkes is only 20 I think it's pretty harsh to dismiss a 20 year old so easily. I was impressed with Bolger more than Parkes early in the pre-season and think he will be the better player but its still a bit quick in my opinion to dismiss Parkes. Moore has looked solid at centre back but I honestly think Taft will be a dominant starting centre back in the future for us, the kid is massive, good in the air, comfortable with the ball at his feet, left footed and has the will to be the best he can be. I would like Anthony Gerrard to join us as I think he and Wes would be outright starters for us but I don't think theres much chance of it happening. Cardiff will play hard ball.
Petchy Posted 3 August 2012 Posted 3 August 2012 Naughton will always be my 'dream' RB signing after his impact here on loan. C'mon Spurs, let us have him?

Bolger and Parkes have only been on loan at League 2 sides, loan them to League 1 to see what they are really capable of. They ain't ready yet in my opinion, and Parkes seems to have been around for ages now. Moore will feature this season in my opinion, but at right-back not centre-back, while Taft as everyone knows has a lot of promise but maybe another loan move may suit him. Gerrard isn't that good from what I have just read on twitter from Cardiff fans, they can't believe their club are actually rejecting bids for him. I wouldn't like him here at all, he is a cocky shit and tbh is a bit like Matt Mills. We just need someone in on loan I think and not someone permanent, you have young kids willing to go out on loan in the Premier League who will probably be far better than Anthony Gerrard.

Peake and Buchanan had never played first team when they ripped Norwich a new arsehole in the cup. They were then first choice.
kingfox Posted 3 August 2012 Posted 3 August 2012 Peake and Buchanan had never played first team when they ripped Norwich a new arsehole in the cup. They were then first choice. Yeah about 30 years ago.
phillo Posted 3 August 2012 Posted 3 August 2012 crap anyway the french guy will rip him a new arse by pratier
Deucalion Posted 3 August 2012 Posted 3 August 2012 Peltier has number 15 and Knockaert doesn't have a number. I bet Knockaert ends up with Peltier's number.
Out Foxed Posted 3 August 2012 Posted 3 August 2012 We have Taft who has played England youth level and has had rave reviews in Sweden while out on loan, Rave reviews in the Swedish third division is akin to rave reviews about a school play.
Tielemans63 Posted 3 August 2012 Posted 3 August 2012 We have Taft who has played England youth level and has had rave reviews in Sweden while out on loan Trust me, I saw Taft play on numerous occasions for Poppies at the start of last season and he has some way to go before he's ready for the Championship. Has a habit of winning everything in the air but heading it straight back to the opposition. His distribution needs to improve considerably.
