purpleronnie Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 At least we didn't lose in disgrace like the 2010 World Cup. Massive learning curve, plenty to do for the next World Cup. well if we had the luck we had in this tournament who knows. I see little difference between the 2 tournaments.
Tielemans63 Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 Well at least we don't have to suffer the indignity of getting absolutely battered by Germany. I was thinking that. A knackered England side would have been dicked by the Germans.
BlueSi13 Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 **** me, 8 penalty shoot out defeats, just 1 victory...and that was on our own pitch. In truth though we were humiliated on the pitch tonight and the prospect of playing the Germans terrified me. Best team won. England have gone severely backwards in the past 15 years in terms of technical ability. We made what is a very average Italian side look like Spain tonight. Sad to say but the inclusion of Rooney may have killed us in this tournament. In fairness though we all knew this was a poor England side and i think we should give Roy Hodgson credit for getting us this far. His job will be to now focus on our youth development and to find and develop players who prefer to play WITH the bloody ball. Its as simple as that, only then will we have a chance of turning nearly 50 years of hurt around.
MPH Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 Give it 20 minutes and Man City will announce they will be trying to sign Pirlo
Fox in the North Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 Not too sad, better team deserved it in the end. Can't fault England as I think they've overachieved and I'm proud of them anyway.
BoneDog Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 Dev. Italy were good but I had confidence going into pens. Thought we were going to punish them.
Ashley Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 Feel sick. Always Penalties with England. Think I've got a new playing hero in Joe Hart future England captain.
acooling08 Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 I'm actually quite surprised by how little sadness I felt when we went out. The feeling of a Leicester defeat is 10x worse.
BlueSi13 Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 From the BBC: "England recorded 35% possession against Italy - their worst amount of possession in the tournament. Against France it was 39%, Sweden 48% and Ukraine 45%." We didn't deserve to be anywhere near a semi-final with stats like those.
Webbo Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 Can't understand why he took off Milner and left Young on, he was shit all night. Welbeck was better than Rooney as well but I can understand why he left him on.
Corky Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 well if we had the luck we had in this tournament who knows. I see little difference between the 2 tournaments. I suppose the difference is the expectation and hype surrounding the tournaments. In 2010 the hype was very strong, a lot of talk about "this is our year", the football was poor and the atmosphere in the camp was even worse. This time the players seem closer knit and the expectation was lower. I see a more united squad and coaching staff to build on from this.,
Bugg Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 Crying. Thoguht we could really make it and I'm so upset.
Leicesterpool Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 Dreadful performance, just don't like defensive football, for the last thirty minutes they looked like they didn't want to win. Might aswell not go to Brazil in a couple of years and for **** sake Jordan ****ing Henderson. The end of Gerard I think.
Mark_w Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 I'm actually quite surprised by how little sadness I felt when we went out. The feeling of a Leicester defeat is 10x worse. acooling, I agree with you... Oh god what's happening to me.
purpleronnie Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 who cares. portland v seattle tonight...now thats a big game.
Tielemans63 Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 We were on top when Rooney and Welbeck were hassling Pirlo and then we just stopped doing it. I though Rooney should've gone off instead of Welbeck. Rooney didn't look match fit to me so to play him for 2 hours was a poor decision.
Danno Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 Gutted, we have fvcking no one with any skill at all, and no decent talent coming through apart from Oxlade-Chamberlain. Oh dear.
MooseBreath Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 We played well for about 90 minutes in the entire tournament. The rest of the time we were ripe for a hammering and were lucky to avoid one. Rooney's future as a guaranteed starter must surely be in doubt after two pointless contributions.
Corky Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 For the next qualifiers we've got Wilshere to come back and hopefully Carrick to come in. This may help us keep the ball better.
Leicesterpool Posted 24 June 2012 Posted 24 June 2012 We're okay in the group stages, but against the tough nations we came unstuck and clueless. Hodgson needs to look in the mirror after this and make a complete revamp drop Rooney, say goodbye to Gerard, stop playing so negative.
