lancyclaret Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 I don't think Burnley have the midfield of enough quality to break stubborn defences, hence the amount of draws. I'll be the first to admit I don't know much about the Burnley midfield though, but maybe that because it's shit We have Ings/Vokes, a reliable keeper and the second meanest defence in the division after QPR but midfield is probably our weakest department. Hard-working and competitive, yes, but maybe lacking a bit of guile and magic. If we had an Andy Reid or Robbie Blake-type player, we'd be winning more games instead of drawing.

You'd also be eating (pardon the pun) into that infamous 'shoe string budget' in order to purchase his pre-match pies! Although on a serious note, the fat bastard has trimmed considerably this year.

Dan Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 If I had it my way, it'd be Leicester and Burnley auto and Derby through the playoffs. Why? Leicester and Burnley have similar models, and although I've been vocal on how much Dyche annoys me with his whinging, the model is respectable. Derby? I'd like a Derby in the Premier League that's winnable, they've also got a good model. I want Billy Davies to experience play off heartache, so Forest to lose at Wembley. My three as well. I wouldn't enjoy watching Derby get promoted but I think it'd be far more fitting seeing those three up than Forest or QPR given the way those two have behaved this season. QPR missing out would be absolutely brilliant. Would dispel the myth that Redknapp is some class manager (no better than Pearson and I'm serious) and it'd be a huge slap in the face to those clubs who think that player collecting (despite being in a very precarious financial position) is the answer. Forest are similar. I can't even word how laughable they are for their love of Fawaz.
Dan Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 I agree Dyche whinges a bit too much - it annoys me when he bangs on about "big clubs" and their bigger wage budgets, but I have some sympathy when he moans about referees. In all THREE of our defeats this season, there has been at least one shocking decision by a referee which led to an opponents' goal and last season bad referees cost us about 10 points. For example we lost 1-0 at home to Charlton after Trippier was sent off early on for an unintentional handball (they missed the penalty but scored a late winner against the run of play) and at home to Birminghan we were 1-1 but well on top when Dean Marney got a straight red after 60 minutes for a tackle which left Paul Robinson in a heap. It was a fair tackle and Marney won the ball but the ref showed red as he ruled that Marney had tackled with "excessive force". Marlon King then gave Brum a last-minute winner but Marney won his appeal and the red card was rescinded. But we still lost 2-1 because of a joke ref when with 11 we probably would have gained a 4th successive win and continued a play off push. Instead, we did not win any of the next 4/5 games. Am I missing something? I could swear you haven't lost at home all season and your defeats were in fact to Brighton, Huddersfield and Middlesbrough away? As for refs with us, I think we've had it good by our usual standards - there've still been some nobheads (Charlton away springs to mind) but they've generally done their job this season and despite what people say about our penalties, the majority were spot on decisions.

I think those points follow on from his point about refs costing them 10 points last season mate

Fox in the North Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Brighton reveal decent losses. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26055733 Brighton & Hove Albion announce £14.7m loss for 2012-13 Brighton & Hove Albion have announced a financial loss of £14.7m in their accounts for the 2012-13 season. The club's operating loss from the previous campaign was £8.6m. New signings and a larger wage bill meant the club's "footballing costs" rose from £14.8m to £20.9m as Brighton came close to promotion. "This shows the reality of football in the Championship and demonstrates the very high cost of being competitive," said chief executive Paul Barber. More to follow.
lancyclaret Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 If you had a Danny Drinkwater or Matty James type player you'd be winning every game. I read somewhere that Matt James was born in Burnley and is a Clarets fan. )....Norwood of Huddersfield is a massive Burnley fan as is Jay Rodriguez. Would not be surprised to see JayRod return to Burnley when he is 32/33 or so.
CosbehFox Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Lansbury...out for the season, broken back....
TJB-fox Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Awful news for them. great news for us. With lansbury, Vaughan and Cohen out for the season, thats 3 serious losses. Oh dear
CosbehFox Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 I read somewhere that Matt James was born in Burnley and is a Clarets fan. : He is. Apparently the best personality at the club too.
AKCJ Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Horrendous news to both him and Forest. Awful injury to get.
One Legged Beaver Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 That sound like a really nasty injury to get. Good news is that it will dent their promotion charge at least!
Bert Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 He is. Apparently the best personality at the club too.Spoke to him after the game Saturday, very approchable and spoke well.
Tinman Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Great excuse for billy liar if they fail though.
MC Prussian Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Lansbury...out for the season, broken back.... Really, really terrible injury, that. I wish him speedy recovery. Hopefully, he'll be back soon, able to play football on a professional level. Back injuries of that scale can ruin one's career in an instant.
Unabomber Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 How the hell did he break his back? Andy Reid sit on him or something?
CosbehFox Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 How the hell did he break his back? Andy Reid sit on him or something? Sex games I reckon.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 I have to say the amount of injuries Forest are getting is abnormal, could they all be just a coincidence? Something to do with the way Billy does training sessions or asks his teams to play, or maybe their scouting system is flawed and they always sign vulnerable players?
Dan Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Feel for him, absolutely cruel injury that. Brighton losing £15.4mil. How the hell?

He'll be trying to get a centre mid in immediately. Panicker. I feel for Lansbury and Vaughan but I think it's excellent regarding Davies. ****. There's his excuses lined up.
