The good parts of Leicester are too spread out.

All the places I've been lately, so Norwich, Bristol, Newcastle, Sunderland, Lincoln, Nottingham etc all have a much better feel to them.

It's a shame as it's 'home', but I only visit now on matchdays.

Always thought the council could've touched up Melton Road (The Golden Mile) a bit, going towards the city.

It’s a shame the Georgian-built area between  Victoria park, the university and King St doesn’t have more amenities.

Its primarily resi and offices, the little squares would be great for cafes and restaurants.

We might see more with the regeneration of Pilot House on King Street.

It’s an interesting scheme but that’s more Welford rd (in spirit) in my mind than the area I was thinking of

DERELICT SKY PLAZA 🪓🪓
Good day to you all folks, hope you've all had a good weekend! a couple new places for you all this week & a few old explores I've done which I've not uploaded before, so a mixed bag for you all this week...so lets get into it shall we?...
Today folks I bring you all this quirky & definitely different explore, a plaza hotel thats been derelict since 2012, consisting of 316 rooms, many bars to drink at and a very grand foyer area... Now it's home to about a million pigeons, fighting it out for the rooms, it's completely trashed & not alot to see, but I've never been to a hotel on top of a multi-storey carpark before!! But now I have! I actually really enjoyed the walk around...
Explored with the lost souls urbex 🙂🤟🏼🪓

WAs formerly the Abbey Motor Hotel, then the EAton Bray.

There was a small Art House Cinema at street level and if my memories correct the Penny Farthing Night Club.

it goes up and down in city centre and at the mo i dont like it and like all of us so sad to see homeless people lying in doorways ffs its 2024 it shouldnt happen. . as for buildings the council only have to clean n paint to give the town a nicer look if there not to be demolished . to get to a nice pub cinema or whatever is your thing we have it seems to pass the said things to get there and that is sad.  but it can get better with someone who cares at the top.:fc:

No, not at all. lol

You do wonder about the "fire" and the seeming lack of attempts to re-open it. lol

The view of that car park / old hotel from Abbey Street is bad enough but there's one from Belgrave Gate that's genuinely dystopian. It doesn't like like something that should still be used as a working building in a developed nation in 2024.

That hotel, used to be the St James hotel, other than the Grand Hotel, it was the best hotel in town, my mate Anthony used to work there, I used to take girls there for some quality quite time.

Without any irony, it's one of my favourite buildings in Leicester.

It's disgusting, bizarre and totally unique. And in an awful area. But fascinating.

Needs a preservation order. Give it 20 years and the thing will be iconic

Edit; the 'arthouse' cinema was the Cinecentre ....think it showed mainstream films and soft porn

The main thing I link it with is "jumpers", mainly the car park top level.

Needs the whole thing converting to apartments with panoramic windows around the car park openings.

Hell of a blow to the centre a big anchor tenant like that going.

Sad, was one of their most profitable stores in the not too distance past

That’s Debenhams, Fenwicks, House of Fraser and M&S gone in the last decade
