Does anyone know why Cortese has left?

Something to do with the owner, who I think is the daughter or widow of the previous owner who died, who has no interest in football and wants to sell up, she's more interested in pocketing the money. Cortese isn't happy with this, because he believes there's still someway to go on this project he feels he started down in league one. I think previously he's convinced he to hold off selling, but it's come to a point where she's insisting, so he done as threatened and stepped down. She's taken over as chairman.

Seems like this is the start of a downward spiral should that continue - someone who's not interested in football being the owner of a football club. Recipe for disaster...

Southampton in crisis?

Cortese leaves, with Liebherr's daughter (who has no interest in football) running the club. However, Pochettino said last year he would leave if Cortese did, and plenty of players have said how influential and ambitious Cortese was/is, could be real upheaval at St Marys.

This has made a good day, great!!! May they tumble back to the oblivion from which they came.

Chelsea re-signing a player they got rid of for free in a deal to bring David Luiz? lol

Be even funnier if Man Utd re-sign Pogba as well for a silly amount of money.

Nemanja Matic returns to Chelsea… for £21m once more - the same fee paid by Porto in 2011.

Thought Chelsea paid £21m for Luiz, and Matic was used as a makeweight for the deal.

Anyway funniest part of the deal is they're funding it by selling Kevin De Bruyne to Wolfsburg for £16m! £16m for De Bruyne!!!!!!

Definitely isn't a first.

After having signed Nikica Jelavic, Hull have now secured the services of Shane Long in a deal that could cost them up to £7m:

Give a week or two and he'll change the club name. When fans protest he'll say he signed these two players for them, and they should stop being ungrateful.

I doubt he has the attraction and authority Fergie had, but as a club Manchester United should be an attraction to most players. One of the biggest clubs in the World, massive ground, compete in Europe etc

what, the europa league?

£14million for Jelavic and Long?

Could only happen in January..

You'd get the pair for 5m in the summer.

Unbelievable spend.

Fvcking hell. Can these players not find better clubs than Hull?

Hull are doing well this season, another two decent signings that they needed. May push them on. Top flight football and still in the FA Cup. Not to much of a bad move. I know Everton are a big club so Jelavic's move could be seen as a 'step down'.

If those two score goals to keep them up, then the club make more money in the long run.

lol ... I think they'll be fine, personally. Won't win the League but will make the top 4.

Nice to see a change for once in the PL though... Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Liverpool, Everton and United could all have a crack at the top 4.

If they lose this weekend and the top 6 all win then I think they can rule out top 4 this year, after this weekend they still have to go to the Emirates, Goodison, St James's and then home games v Liverpool and Man City. Going to be tough for them to get maximum points in any of them games, maybe see them taking 3 points away from Newcastle as a guarantee but the others are no gimmes.

Liverpool gobble up multi-million-pound Dunkin' Donuts deal

"We're delighted to be joining forces with Dunkin' Brands, one of the world's most iconic names. Dunkin' Donuts will be our official coffee, tea and bakery provider and Baskin-Robbins will be our official ice cream provider, we welcome both to the LFC family," said Billy Hogan, Liverpool's chief commercial officer.

Tom Ince to Monaco is bizarre.

*I realise it's not necessarily PL news but didn't think it warranted it's own thread.

But where will Paul live now?
