At least they seem to have appreciated that it's late on a Sunday night, folk are up early for a long week at work tomorrow and we're gonna get this out the way as quickly as possible.

Very poor.

Probably have to win in Perth now, tough but nut impossible.

Way we're playing you could fly Ashby Hastings fourth team out to Perth and they'd give us a game.

Wont happen but my team. Back to basics, as close as we get to the team that actually won the fcuker 3-0 in the summer.

Aggressive, we need to start winning matches now.

Cook

Root

Bell

Pietersen

Bairstow

Prior

Bresnan

Swann

Broad

Finn

Anderson

That's one hell of a tail !!

Starts at 4 lol

2-0 down.

Get the bowlers steaming in on 4-5 over spells, giving it everything.

Would be unfair to drop Carberry in my opinion. Offered some resilience in the last Test and was about the only one in the top order who seemed to be able to bat aggressively without batting stupidly for more than a few overs.

He'll play but personally I'd drop him as he clearly isn't good enough for this standard of cricket. That said, he has done far better than I thought he would even just averaging the 26 odd he has done.

He owes us 100 runs for that Haddin drop mind.

Carberry for Bairstow and root at number 5 is the team that should play in Perth.

Can't understand your dislike of Carberry here Matt, considering along with Bell and Root he's the only batsman who actually looks like he knows what he's doing in the last two Tests. I know you were against his inclusion in the first place, but I think he's at least earned the chance to play out the next Test or two.

Don't dislike him, he's a lovely guy. I'm more annoyed he has been included as it's broken up what I think could be one of the greatest opening partnerships the side has ever seen. Cook and Root should have been left to develop at the top, they could be there for ten years.

It's baffling to bring in a 33 year old who often struggles in the county second division at this stage, but then again its been a baffling tour so far.

He'll play the next couple of tests, knock in another couple of 50/60's maybe combined with 3/4 low scores and then we'll see him vanish again and wonder what on earth we were doing when we look back in ten years. Compton actually looked fine against pace, excellent in India and New Zealand until spin came on, he might have even been ideal if they wanted to bump Root down.

To be honest the whole process has been a bit of a mess ever since that strange decision to bring in Woakes and Kerrigan for the 5th test of the summer.

Totally agree with your stance on the faffing about with selections. It's had a really destabilising effect and history has shown the best sides don't change things about that much.

Also agree that the dropping of Compton was rash-again, acting in haste and repenting at leisure.

All that said, Carberry should be kept for a bit longer purely for the sake of that stability, and based on the reasonable performances he's had so far.

It has been a really odd tour, not sure even the most ardent of pessimists could have seen the problems that have arisen.

I think that Compton was seen as a possible England regular but they also wanted Root and ultimately chose him as having greater potential with a stronger all round game and with Trott cemented at 3 they had no place for Compton to bat. As a result he is a forgotten man which after last winter is a bit tough especially as he has now  been usurped by Carberry who was really seen as a one day player when he first came into the England set up.

I think Compton could be a decent test player, he strikes me as someone capable of batting "time" less prone to the pressure to take on percentage shots and getting out cheaply

I think I would also like to see what Balance can do - he is untainted by failure at this level although that is not saying a lot!

what's the deal with Perth? It's almost taken as read we will lose there as the surface and playing conditions are so alien to players from the Northern Hemisphere but why?  Even really good England sides have lost to putrid Australian ones there  in the past. there must be an argument that since the game is supposed to be a battle between sides on an equal footing that we should not agree to play at a venue so manifestly favouring one side . (Not sure how that argument can be extended to India of course) .

Perhaps we need to play all 5 matches in the next home series at Chester-le street with Onions selected on this occasion!

Very rash. Would you still keep Carberry even if kept failing on this tour? He won't be around for the next Ashes, surely we should start to build a team for that?

He could be a disaster this week, they just brought up a stat on Sky, Carbs has faced 26 short balls on the tour, 3 wickets for 6 runs.

lol Onions really should be out here.

Perth holds fears but we need to look at the positives here, we've actually got some bowlers who can get real bounce and carry, they should be licking there lips at Perth.

Seems Graham Onions will have to take tenfer in every innings for Durham before he gets a look in. Ridiculous. Maybe the ECB are just scared he'll turn out to be a carbon copy of Harmison any time he travels further south than Middlesbrough.
