Ashes 2013

Didn't the press spend all Pre-Ashes hoping Johnson would be called up for the Aussies as they thought he would be a weak link?

If only....

Apart from Bell and Carberry it was another shambolic effort.

Monty put up more of a fight than most at the end.

utterly inept performance for the second match running and cant see them turning the series around with the current mindset- cant expect the bowlers to exert pressure with no sort of totals being put together by the batters.

They will be bringing out their books in due course and I look forward to the chapter "how we handed the Ashes over to a side rated around 6 in world rankings with about  2 test class players in it"

This is pretty much humiliating, this is possibly the worst Australian side I have ever seen and we are getting annihilated. Our batting is just absolutely atrocious, we might as well not have turned up for both test matches and just gave them the 2-0 lead.

Basically this. To have not scored 400 for almost a year is terrible.

Bangladesh would be embarrassed by some of the scores we're getting. Not topping 200 yet in this series is incredible given that they're clearly good wickets.

So why didn't Australia enforce the follow on? It's hardly like they have been toiling away in the field today, there is no chance of an England victory. So why not smash into us again while Johnson has his mojo and before we have had a chance to get off the field and regroup?

We do have the ability to bat for 5 sessions, and after coming off the pitch tonight they can regroup and get their heads right, put on a bit of Ring of Fire, and go out and save the game, Monty and Jimmy heroics at the death a la Cardiff to save the test and start the road to recovery.

Ok wishful thinking, but stranger things have happened.

Johnson well on his way to one of the great ashes bowling performances here. Legendary stuff in the making.

The ozzies aren't half bad winners though. If there's any consolation it's that they've shown that they're still a bunch of knuckledragging thugs at the end of the day.

Lack of class you see.

must be confident that the weather will hold too!

Root's shot was dreadful, I knew then that a collapse was on the way.

agreed but Pietersen's 3 innings in this series have been nothing short of a disgrace- he scored a double hundred on this ground previously

They don't often get it wrong but the selectors have fvcked up massively this series. Team looked horribly unbalanced and there seemed to be some strange gambles taken. The side doesn't look up to it - they look like they can't wait to get home.

5-0 I reckon - they look so so poor.

Probably just to give their bowlers a bit of a rest/rejuvenation period and bat the game absolutely safe to an enormous lead that (should they have had to) wont have to chase any runs on a deteriorating 5th day wicket against the England dual spin option.

But no one in the England team is capable of playing a backs to the wall game saving knock. Not on current form anyway.

I personally think Compton should have been given more of a chance.

We never in force the follow on, since we played India in a test 8 or 9 years ago when we sent India back in and VSS Laxman scored a double century and I think we lost the game.

Was pretty hot yesterday in Adelaide and today meant to be hotter. So makes sense to give the bowlers a rest especially as test 3 is straight on the back of this one.

Specifically which players are you referring to? If anything we've been disadvantaged by trying to keep it the same and playing half fit players ( prior/pieterson) and others out of form. Some players like Bairstow I think just lost form also and got dropped but not certain. Some are probably injured.

I literally cannot watch another moment of this series - it's excruciating to watch.

No offence Paddy but this is fooking bullshit! I watched almost every ball of the first 4 tests from the uk series and got a warning from work as I was rocking up on 2 hours sleep. You are either a fan or not a fan you don't turn off after a bad test or 2.
