Coventry to play in Northampton

Recommended Posts

Feel sorry for both sets of fans, I know a lad who is a Northampton fan and he doesn't want this at all.

Then again it was more than likely Coventry had to move somewhere, but travel wise for fans will take the piss and take it's toll probably very early into the season.

60 miles? Pah! I've done 200 per home game for the last 9 years. And after moving from London to Manchester the distance hasn't changed.

If they wanna go they'll make it. I'd imagine there'll be a reduced amount of an already dwindling fan base though.

Cov fan here (not after abuse).

Everyone on our online forums are saying this is the death of our club and whats worrying is it could happen to any club given the nature of football. Hopefully we're wrong, but no one can really see a sensible way back.

http://backpagefootball.com/the-coventry-case-the-sad-demise-of-a-football-club/59158/ - Sums it up nicely, we've been sliding for years but this really is the last nail in the coffin. No one wants to move 30 odd miles out of the city and as someone who used to go alot from Bristol, it won't ever be a home game.

@Emilio Lestavez - People don't want to go, its not the fact that they have to travel, its who the owners are and what their doing to the club! People are refusing to buy shirts, buy tickets etc, anything that will give them money. The owners are quoting 5,000 people going, they'll be lucky if 500 turn up.

Just to prove how much people hate the idea of going - http://www.skybluestalk.co.uk/threads/32954-Confirmed-northampton

While i love my club (as i'm sure you all love yours), the worrying and sad thing is that this could happen to any club, hopefully the FL will find a backbone tomorrow and deny the move but if sisu actually passed the fit and proper owners test, then we've no hope.

That sounds awful. I think you realise what a dire situation it is when life long fans no longer want to go and watch their team.

Best of luck to your club anyway, dearly hope you get out of this.

Aye best of luck, wouldn't want to see anyone go out of business.

Awful decision, a complete insult to the support base.

I've got a mate who's seen over 1000 consecutive games for coventry, and even he's unsure wether to go or not.

Sad times indeed.

Best of luck to them. We can all do round trips to games (I'm another that doesn't live in Leicestershire) but we're talking about a football club moving out of its City. Pretty bad. I do feel for the fans now, they've somewhat become a laughing stock and are in a mess. I do hope they get out of it and return to the Championship though. They are a fairly big club, Coventry.

Don't want to see any club go bust.

:o wow, thats about 20 years without missing a game - incredible.

Much as i dislike Cov... sad to see the demise of a club.

If they're in administration, can they really deal with this extra expense? They're renting the ground on a game-by-game basis, according to the BBC. I'd have just taken the Ricoh rent-free for a season while I tried to come up with something else.

my cov mate reckons they are going to move out of the ricoh, so the ricoh can be bought on the cheap because it will be pretty much redundent.. i went to Springsteen from cov railway station, i would imagine it is easier to get to Northampton than it was for us to go the 3 miles to the ricoh, nightmare of a place to get to.

This is awful for Cov. Never thought it would come to this. Its crazy that they looking into building a new stadium whilst the Ricoh will sit there unused.

Posted

Never should of left Highfield Road. Hopefully they'll build a new stadium in Coventry. I'm not a snob when it comes to the cov leicester rivalry. I like going cov away.

This is appalling, i've a best mate whose a Cov fan and he's in bits. He thinks it's close to the end of them and that's horrible. I've enjoyed the rivalry we've had with them, mainly in the 90's and early part of this millenium and i'd be sad to see that rivalry never being as intense as before.

Their owners are complete cretins and I hope they get their commupance.

As much as people argue against FFP, you would like to think it will prevent things like this happening.

I remember the abuse and the video they did when we got relegated, and the endless messages and threats I was getting on facebook from a 6 fingered disabled.

Any other club apart from Forest i'd feel for  them.

Let them burn

Have a bit of perspective lads. We were relegated and bounced straight back, this could genuinely put them out of business. I couldn't imagine that happening to Leicester, honestly don't know what I'd do with myself.

I read something on the Cov forum last night saying that Sisu won't use the Ricoh even rent-free because they want to put ACL out of business and have the Ricoh for themselves. Something needs to be done.

If they did go out of business at least they'd be able to form their own Phoenix club run by the fans. Eventually they'd get a stadium in Coventry that was a decent size for them. It would be a bit of a nightmare being several leagues below the conference but it's not necessarily the end. Look at Wimbledon, they've come back and are much better off that they were 10 years ago.

It's going to get worse before it gets better for them I should think. I think once they're in a position where they're playing in Coventry and not at the Ricoh they'll be better off.

Spot on Cov have been dead for a couple of years. They would be better off replicating AFC Wimbledon.

Well if you've given sporting the sky blues there's a club down the road from you called Nuneaton Boro that you could have a look at.

Sounds like right clowns at Coventry running them, still i can see Cov Sphinx gates going up.

I presume they haven't sold the season tickets yet!

I noticed they aren't even being advertised on their OS yesterday, nor are single home tickets.

Ironically, given the distance they'll now have to travel, a ground which the size of their current fanbase could fill a decent portion of is still going to be half empty when they play.

Yeah, and?

They were singing about their rivals relegation, every team in the world does it. Doesn't justify the sad position they are in now.

I'm a football fan and don't like to see any club go, especially a club the size of Coventry who are fairly big. They should never have left Highfield Road though, Richo never matched that anyway.
