Strokes Posted 8 September 2013 Posted 8 September 2013 I rarely buy any fresh meat from supermarkets, only the odd deal. Aldi is where i get my basics and i shop daily for specifics elswhere. The dairies, cooked meats, tinned food and kiddy bits are excellent value. My favourite value item is the sundried tomatoes in oil. only £1.49, most supermarkets are at least double this.
Vlad the Fox Posted 8 September 2013 Posted 8 September 2013 The extra virgin olive oil and breakfast cereals are very good.
Big Dave Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 I do most of my shopping there - quality on the whole is very good. I go to Aldi first, and if I cant get something from there, go to one of the others to get the extras after - saves a small fortune. Some of the items are made in the same factory as branded products (although to a slightly different recipe). The only downside is that I generally cannot do a full shop there (lacking a little bit of selection of vegetables, fruits and herbs, spices, seasonings, etc).
leicesterlad1989 Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Yeah I don't mind Aldi, I think it's pretty decent but LIDL...that place makes me want to break down in tears. As if being in Coalville wasn't bad enough, I decided to go into LIDL on my lunch break to get some food. I walked through the door and nearly broke down in tears, it was so depressing. Even the food looked depressed. Workers were like robots, which isn't surprising considering the environment they are surrounded by!
SystonFox Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 yeah but the one he's talking about is in Coalville. sympathise brother. LIDL chicken nuggets are awesome though
Rincewind Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Not been to a Lidil. Can't remember seeing one in Leicester. Stuck indoors so not had the chance to try Aldi. Tomorrow elsewhere so might be Wednesday as I can go from there to Humberstone Road for a Weiters club meeting.
Zingari Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 The extra virgin olive oil and breakfast cereals are very good. Doesn't sound very appetising , I'll stick to milk .
Karljohn Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Shopping at aldi now, saving a fortune and the meat is decent and british. Last time in asda the chicken was coming in from Brazil, and asda just seems interested in trying to sell shit food on multubuy. Aldi head office is in my hometown and I've been told that most of the suppliers also do tesco, gets rebadged and marked up by tesco to enable them to make a shedload of cash.

AnotherShitSeason Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Went in for a look today to see what you were all on about. Full of ugly downtrodden housewives, retarded looking people & piss stained pensioners getting in my way. Would personally rather spend the extra money & go to Waitrose. Totty is good, food is superb & I don't feel like I'll catch a disease. Will never EVER go in there again. Or trust any of you lot on what constitutes fine food & wine for that matter.
lavrentis Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Problem with Aldis for me is lack of selection.
SystonFox Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 So people shop on where the hottest MILFS are now? Good tactic !

Oi, you can trust me, I said it was shite. And I'm not a downtrodden housewife! I only reach the Waitrose totty status on bestest occasions, though, or when I've just had a pay rise. The rest of the time I'm a rather more average Sainsburys shopper.
I am Rod Hull Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Went in for a look today to see what you were all on about. Full of ugly downtrodden housewives, retarded looking people & piss stained pensioners getting in my way. Aldi have a mirror aisle!?
MPH Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 It's a bit like ryan air. If all you want is cheap food then thats what you'll get.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 I work in lidl. Ups and downs of it but very hard and quick work needed so workers never happy and there are two lidls in leicester
absolutelegend Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 I work in lidl. Ups and downs of it but very hard and quick work needed so workers never happy and there are two lidls in leicester Like I said earlier, the business models of these type of places are based on employing absolute minimum amounts of staff in relation to the amount of stuff they turnover. This means 2 things to me - no level of customer service at all, and no benefit to local communities in terms of job creation. I guess if you're just interested in the price of the food then that's what you're going to get though. Doesn't sit well with me personally though.

Hence the reason queues are often big in Lidl and Aldi, they dont want to have many staff in the building comapred to turnover. Ive been in store before when there has only been three or four staff members in before. Shocking really. And yes customer service might suffer a little but customers in Lidl and Aldi are not the same as usual supermarkets. They are utter basatrds

I actually prefer shopping in Aldi than Asda/Tesco/Sainsburys purely because I hate food shopping, internet shopping is more of a pain with out of stock items and no/wrong replacements than it's worth, and I can do a full shop in < 10 mins in Aldi, compared to more like 40 mins in a larger supermarket
