Clough Sacked

If they do give Pulis the job that pic there makes him and whoever that is with him (I assume a Derby board member) look like a right cnut.

Stealing another managers job like that is a bit out of order and I hope he gets a ton of stick for it - especially from other managers and ex-pros.

The only ones that don't are probably the ones that have done something similar.

I don't think it's out of order. It's looking after Derby's best interests. There won't be a period of insecurity where a member of the coaching staff takes charge (that rarely goes well). If Pulis does get the job, he can get introduced to the players on Monday and quickly make the changes he fels are necessary.

It's not as if Clough wouldn't do the same in Pulis' position and he certainly wouldn't show Derby much loyalty if his results had attracted the attentions of a bigger club.

I don't think Clough would be in the stand laughing knowing he's about to take the other managers job at the end of the match because he's a dead man walking. I've always thought Clough seemed quite principled.

I don't blame Derby for doing it. I blame Pulis for having the audacity and maybe disrespect to so openly rub Clough's nose in it as a fellow manager - I've never seen a manager do it before so openly. Obviously it happens but you could at least try and hide it.

You don't even know that he's getting the job yet.

That's why I said, 'If they do offer it to Pulis,' in my main post before replying.

It could just be a big coincidence.

Personally I think he should have gone ages ago. Alright they've not got one of the bigger budgets but they're still a reasonable sized club and much smaller ones with smaller budgets have made much better fists of promotion.

Let's face it, he's had long enough there and has done nothing. When you watch clubs like Blackpool go up and then get in the play-offs again, you'd probably think a club like Derby should be doing better.

They've not once challenged for promotion under him and that should be their aim.

Robbie Savage rang the BBC Radio Derby phone in this evening apparently to vent his anger at the Clough sacking.

That's because he's a biased tosser.

Clough has had them in more relegation scraps than play-off chases. He can have no complaints IMO.

They looked absolutely awful today and are clearly not going to be in the promotion mix again.

Maybe now Will Hughes will leave for the reported £20m he is worth. And then he can link up with Aaron Ramseh in the middle of the England midfield 🎣

This is a shameful disrespectful joke sacking of a Manager who has been consistently year after year been forced to cut back on the playing staff and given a very small budget to work with.

Despite all that he has been able to keep the side in the Championship and by promoting youth has built a squad that has one of the brightest young British talents on the country.

Please tell me who would / could have done a better job under the circumstances?

I suppose it's no wonder as their CEO is a publicity seeking Natalie Jackson shagger wannabee Dutch porno star look-a-likey.

I don't think Cloughee will be out of the job for long, i won't be surprised if David Weir at Sheffield United is next, they've had an abysmal start. So i think Cloughee for the Blades!

I'm sure plenty of managers could have done a better job in that time. Even Holloway did a better job under similar (maybe even more difficult) circumstances at Blackpool and you know what I think of him.

Are we saying that a manager should keep his job just because he's not got a lot to work with? He's had absoluetly no success there, he's clearly not a particularly good manager, because those managers get clubs like Derby challenging towards the top 6 even with a small budget. That's what seperates the wheat from the chaff.

He's an average manager at best and after 4 and a half years it's time for a change. He should have done better, even if you consider his squad as bargain basement he's really not picked up many bargains, because his team is utter shite. I can't think of one impressive signing he's made. In comparison, Pearson's picked up a few decent players for small money, even on frees. Even Sven got Nugent on a free.

No idea why people are defending him. Derby are a wank midtable side and Clough has had long enough to do something of note there.

If its all true about Pulis being there, then I would put it down to his agent circulating his name after realizing no one in the prem was going to come knocking. I hated it when mandaric did it to Pearson and I still hate it now... terrible way to treat your manager. ...

This just about sums up my feeling on the matter.

That said, this sacking took me by surprise. Derby's board gave off an impression of being steadfastly behind Clough.

I'm concerned they might get someone in who knows how to beat us regularly.

In fairness to Clough, his four defeats have been against top six sides. They've obviously got someone better lined up.
