Captain... Posted 1 November 2013 Posted 1 November 2013 How I met your mother probably never reached the height of Friends at its peak, but it didn't sink as low as Friends at its worst. It has to be applauded for its consistency, whilst not groundbreaking it is frequently laugh out loud funny and is a lot more adult than Friends, more stories about sex and being drunk, and with more rounded characters, (although still somewhat one dimensional) only occasionally resorts to lazy stereotyping of characters, and uses the storytelling narrative technique well, if somewhat inconsistently. But hey if you don't like it, don't watch it, not everything on TV is made for you, even things like Miranda and Mrs Brown's Boys, neither of which I like, get good audiences because they have a target market, if it isn't you, that doesn't make it pointless.

I disagree, HIMYM at its worst (the most recent season was comfortably the worst yet) was much worse than Friends ever was. The story where Victoria banned Ted from seeing Robin, aside from completely changing Victoria's character to fit the story, was such a blatant rip off of Emily banning Ross from seeing Rachel, it was embarrassing. I do like HIMYM and have seen all the episodes I think, however its nowhere near as good as Friends, which was consistently funny for all 10 seasons IMO. Currently on the 9th season of Frasier, absolutely outstanding show.

Yeah that was a bit odd, but in general it is fairly consistent, they occasionally make lazy character exaggerations, but I think it was about series 7 onwards were friends just became caricatures of themselves exaggerating their dominant personality characteristics to the point of it being unwatchable. But hey you may disagree, that's what makes opinions so much fun.

I was forced to watch last weeks with relatives. I ended up giggling through most of it. X Factor for me. Its not even like the winner goes on to have a sustained career.

But hey you may disagree, that's what makes opinions so much fun. I disagree. I'm a bit of a friends nerd, since I own all the DVD's and have probably watched every episode at least 5 times. The only character they really did that with was Joey (who IMO they ruined by making gradually stupider as the series went on). The last two seasons probably weren't as strong as the earlier ones, but they were still really good. I like HIMYM, but it's not on the level of friends.

It was so shit, and what made it completely pointless was that it was aimed at me, people my age were its target audience, a lot of the suggestions on here are largely becuase they are programs not aimed at you, I don't know a single person in their target demographic that found it even remotely funny. 9 series, how the fvck did it last 9 series, 80 episodes of utter garbage.

I usually like history programmes if they are presented in a way which is factual and has academics that know about the subject adding to the discussion. To be honest I just despise Julia Bradbury.
