Just look for nuge's second at ipswich, he has the rare ability to beat a man from central midfield (their young full-back), and then have the vision and ability to play a perfectly weighted pass, absolute quality. You only have to look at the game against fulham, where he played in a unfamiliar role behind the striker, and was again a class above any fulham player on the pitch. For me, at this level, he is the most important player we must hold onto in Jan. It is so difficult to find gifted central players in this league, and on his performances so far he would be a regular in our side if we got promoted. On a side note - How do you think he would fare in our O'Neill era? Personally, would think he would replace savage.
Dan Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 I agree. He's seriously grown on me this season and he's playing some of the best midfield displays I've seen in years. Cracking player with real technical ability, something I like to see.

And no he wouldn't replace anyone from the O'neill side, there's a whole thread on that subject at the minute. He's a different type of player to Savage and not in the same class as Lennon or Muzzy.

Ric Flair Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 Drinkwater has been very, very good for us apart from that spell towards the end of lasts eason when he and a lot of the team underperformed. However, as he's performed so well for the rest of his time here and most certainly this season, he's been exceptional, I think he's developing in to one of the best midfielders in the league. I think it's too early for a PL club to come sniffing so we should be ok, I just hope his form lasts the season.

I remember him running the game at Sheffield Wednesday last year, think he scored as well actually... His form dipped towards the end of last season, like most/all of our players, but it looks like his confidence is back. He wants the ball again all the time, and he makes things happen; you only have to look at his pass to Dyer for our second goal on Saturday. Really do like Drinkwater, hope he keeps up his recent impressive performances.

Freeman's Wharfer Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 The way I describe Drinkwater is this.... His ability stretches from Premier League standard to League One standard. Some days he is Premier League class, others he is League One class. The problem Drinkwater has had is that he can fall anywhere on that spectrum over the course of the 90 minutes, never mind a week or month. This season we've seen more Premier League days and full 90 minutes than before but I'm yet to be convinced that he won't turn in a League One display at some point. Hopefully he has cut those days and periods out of his game but I still can't quite class him as consistent a performer as someone such as Morgan who, 99% of the time, at the very least gives you a top-half Championship performance because his spectrum stretches from Premier League class to mid-table Championship. I'd be more concerned about losing Morgan, Schmeichel or Knockaert than Drinkwater

Nigel won't want them gone, and the owners know we're looking like having our best shot at promotion in recent times so won't want to upset the apple cart (or whatever the saying is. Pissing in the woods, too many shit in the basket.) Drinky stays

If we'd got rid in the summer and saw him playing like he is now for someone else we'd be kicking ourselves. He was excellent in the first half of last season, and he's been excellent again in the first half of this season. Fans were praising him, then by January we were slagging him off. Same could happen again, I hope not, but it might.

Quite a few of them are yet to have a consistently good season with us, Drinkwater included.

The player of the season should be for our best performer over the course of the year, not the most improved. Dyer has done well but he is nowhere near as valuable to the side as a Knocky, Drinks or Morgan.
