NathanC93 Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 Really enjoying the season so far and have little to no complaints on the football and i'm a big fan of Pearson. But seriously, surely the fact that our manager and 3 of our key players are out of contract in the summer can't be forgotten? Do you think this will be resolved and they will be offered new contracts in January or before if we keep on track? If we DON'T got up, we would be without Morgan, Schmeichel, Nugent, Dyer and Pearson to name the most important. This along with FFP and not really being able to get back the quality that would leave is worrying, no? I know it's old news but couldn't see a topic about it and wanted to know people's thoughts. Bert Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 There's no point worrying about something that you have no control over.... You won't be able to change the fact. Let the people in the right places sort that out and just enjoy this season for what it's been so far. Players & Managers will come and go, they will always be replaced somehow.
Guest MattP Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 Nigel contract is a matter of grave urgency for me. All we do under him is improve on andoff the pitch and i'd be happy to see him tied down to a long term deal. Morgan I'd be trying to sign up, Nugent as well. The others I think can wait for the time being. I think Kasper will be off regardless now, he is sought after and bring out of contract he could command a mammoth seven figure signing on fee. That said its all down to finances as well, wouldn't be held to random by anyone. Except NP probably...
davieG Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 I'd guess that if we don't get promoted they'd all have to take a pay cut.
Happy Fox Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 Get automatic promotion then contracts etc can happen that has got to be the focus and NP realises that judging by that article. The Thais want success, we all want success and finally this season it looks like we could gain promotion, without jinxing it!
Harry - LCFC Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 Even if we lose players I'm sure Pearson will find quite adequate replacements. Just need him to be here of course.

Ric Flair Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 The truth is that unless we get promoted they will all be required to take a big pay cut and probably won't want to. Nugent and Kasper are both on over a million a year, as is Pearson. Morgan i'm not sure on but he's likely to be handsomely paid. We seem very serious on conforming with FFP so unless we get promotion i'd expect further cuts and I fail to see how an agreement will be made on deals until we know what division we'll be in. I suppose they could agree in principle, for example if we get promoted their new contract will pay them x amount or if we miss out then a new deal will be on a salary reduced to x
hackneyfox Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 I think Kasper will be off regardless now, he is sought after and bring out of contract he could command a mammoth seven figure signing on fee. I'd imagine that any Premier sides looking at Schmeichel may well be coolong off at the moment, far too many mistakes appearing in between the great saves. For me he has a long way to go before he's Premier class.
Bayfox Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 There's a few ways of looking at this, 1st they are out of contract yes, so can leave on bosmans if we offer contracts worth less than they currently earn, however, i'd hazard a guess, we pay more than they will get going to any club of a similar level/stature, so apart from Kasper, due to his age, who is gonna pay, Nugent or Morgan, more than we do, infact even if offer reduced terms, I reckon they would still find it hard to get that money elsewhere. As for Pearson, if the owners ditch him, then they would ruin all hard work he has done, unfolding svens mess. If he leaves then I assume it's because he's got a better offer and what clubs are going to again pay him what we are and what jobs will be there in the summer are a better gig than ours is at the minute? As for FFP, pearson has done what he can to help this situation, we don't know what losses we are going to post this year, he hasn't spent much, he has sold marshall, got rid of beckford, tried to bring the wage bill down and look to use youth where he can. Maybe the owners will see the wage bill as manageable under FFP at the end of this season and we will be able to offer decent contracts to everyone. Or maybe, just maybe, we will be in the top flight in August and we can sign 22 new players.

Jace Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 We had a opportunity to cash in with all them this summer and we chose not to so thats the clubs decision to gamble this season. If we go up and they all choose to leave will only leave us it will only leave us in a better situation financially with our wage structure anyway so no concern here looking at the positives.
Captain... Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 I wouldn't be concerned just yet, can't be a bad thing having players playing for their contract, the only concern I would have is other clubs tappnig them up, knowing they are going to be out of contract and turning their heads when they should be focussing on the promotion push. In the end all the players are replaceable and shoudl they go I would back Nige, Shakey and Terry to find suitable replacements at the right price. Nige going could be disastrous, but considering he came back because of unfinished business, which is still unfinished, I am pretty certain he would accept a new contract, the question is whether he will be offered one, and so far this season he deserves to be. If he isn't it could be a disaster, we could appoint another Sven or Sousa, or it could be the push we need to get promoted, who knows, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
StanSP Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 It does make me feel uneasy that we're leaving it this late to get players' deals extended, but like someone said above, we have no control over it. Only the upper echelons of the heirarchy and the players themselves can sort this out. Maybe the more times the players say they want contracts (only Morgan and Nuge so far?) extended it might force the issue a bit. Other than Kasper saying he's happy here, I haven't heard anything from him regarding contracts. And Pearson just tells everyone not to worry .

I think he is well aware that he won't be offered one if he doesn't lead us to promotion either through the playoffs or (automatic).

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 What will be, will be. As Davie G so rightly states, if we fail to gain promotion this season, then the top players, and the manager, will need to take pay cuts if retained by the club.
Captain... Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 I think he is well aware that he won't be offered one if he doesn't lead us to promotion either through the playoffs or (automatic). We all thought that last season too, but he's still here. If we finish third and lose on penalties in the playoff final, whilst also improving the balance sheet, then it would be extremely harsh to not offer him a new contract continuous improvement shouldn't be dismissed so easily for starting again from scratch.

If we finish third and lose on penalties in the playoff final, whilst also improving the balance sheet, then it would be extremely harsh to not offer him a new contract continuous improvement shouldn't be dismissed so easily for starting again from scratch. This is his last chance, the owners would of have to pay him off, and seemed unlikely so it makes sense from their perspective to give him one more season (i.e this season) to see what he can do, if he doesn't deliver promotion they don't have to pay him off because his contract has expired but if he does then they can renegotiate a new contract.
whoareyaaa Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 I think the majority of the players will want to stay that have been mentioned in the OP but this will probably depend on where we finish this season, there is a good spirit around the camp and the players are working for each other and also the management. The owners should be offering Pearson a deal pretty soon though because he is the one that has built the squad and got us to where we are now. Would also like to see Nuge, Morgan and Kasper sign up in the summer even if we are in the Prem or still remain in the Championship as they are quality players and part of our spine. Even if we go up I can't imagine we will bring in aload of new players maybe 5-6 tops, so these players should get a new contract.
Father Ted Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 I'm not worried at all. Tieing them up on long new contracts now can lead to complacency. See Gallagher under Sven as a prime example. Nugent seems the prime candidate in this case. The ball is in our court with him, he won't get a better offer elsewhere so he'll need to work his arse off to get a new contract from us. Likewise with Morgan, however his levels of consistency would be maintained the same throughout, a true pro. Schmeichel is the odd one out of them all. Get promoted and he stays, don't go up and he'll leave, as simple as that really.

If us Burnley and QPR raced away all with 90 points each and we just missed out and lost in the playoffs it would be absolute madness to seek change for next season.

This to me would seem a very risky strategy. If at Christmas we are in or around the promotion places then I feel that her must be offered a new contract. The alternative is that a struggling premiership side sacks their manager in January, you can bet NP would be a prime target and who could blame him if he then decides ti jump ship.
Manwell Pablo Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 If us Burnley and QPR raced away all with 90 points each and we just missed out and lost in the playoffs it would be absolute madness to seek change for next season. I agree however I do also think it's a little early to be giving Nige a contract the jobs not even half done and we could well end up nowhere come the end of the season, Jan/Feb for me see where we are then.
Harry - LCFC Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 We've made clear progress under Pearson and should that continue, which I fully expect, that would be enough to tell me that he's the right man for the job even if we fail this season. Promotion isn't far away if we continue with the current manager, I'm fairly sure of that. I think it would be a bad decision to bring in someone new and risk a brilliant, brilliant chance of promotion the following season purely because fans are unsatisfied with how long it's taken.
