cityfanlee23 Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 By freedom he means "freedom up the wing" Never See his work rate tracking back etc... but he needs to be free in the center.. If he has freedom yet chooses to sit on the wing all game which is arguably not his position, he's not very bright...

He doesn't sit on the wing all game, that is part of the problem, especially with Was at RB, he is always coming inside drifting over to the left, and chasing the ball, if he is going to have a free role, we need someone to play on the right.

Basically he's not free at all when he is played on the right wing, because ultimately that is where he needs to be when we defend. and always ends up tracking back to that position, Agree if he is to have a free role he NEEDS to be in the center, and we need a Right winger...
RowlattsFox Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 I don't where this myth comes from that he stays on the wing. Particularly the last couple of games, dyer and knockaert have linked up on the left many times.
davieG Posted 20 December 2013 Author Posted 20 December 2013 Plenty of times he's working down the middle at one point against man city him and Dyer were both on the left. Whether that's good or bad in a 442 is debatable. He'd probably better doing it from the centre of a 5 man mid-field
cityfanlee23 Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 One piece I took from this... 2 goals all season is obviously not good enough for a "Match winner" But this struck me as very poor... The 22-year-old has scored two league goals, four in total, and has two assists in the Championship. He has had 44 efforts on goal in the league, 16 of which have been on target. average at best at the moment, although creative and has a lot of potential -44 shots, -16 on target -2 good enough to beat the keeper -28 missed completely

Are you kidding? part of the reason he never finishes a full game (except last week) is because of all the running he does tracking back and across the pitch.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 I don't where this myth comes from that he stays on the wing. Particularly the last couple of games, dyer and knockaert have linked up on the left many times. Exactly. It's fluid in the sense that the wing is his starting point but from there he can roam anywhere. One of the things we have missed about De Laet is that he copes very well when he is out on the right-hand side alone, in a way that Wasilewski hasn't recently. The fact that Knockaert is only 22 often gets forgotten. He's probably got another couple of levels in him to come yet! By the time he's 25 he could be some player.
Beliall Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 i dont know why we dont play 4-4-wherever he likes-1

He's a brilliant special little player who we're lucky to have. He's improving all the time
Happy Fox Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 He needs to be played behind the strikers please NP give him this chance.
cityfanlee23 Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 For god sake stop reading into stats so much. He's a brilliant special little player who we're lucky to have. He's improving all the time I'm not saying he is not, I am saying he needs to improve a lot to get his status.... It's not me searching for stats to use against the lad, It was just there... P.s He's brilliant so far against average teams.... He's got potential but let's not get too excited about him yet, He among others has been hot and cold, but we know what he can do... He will be quality if nurtured accordingly. I think he's got the most potential to play in the premiership.
Father Ted Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 I wish we would build our tactics around him, whether that be in a 4-3-3, 4-5-1, 4-2-3-1, 4-4-1-1, 4-4-2.. I'd love to see him play in the hole in a David Silva, Eden Hazard type role.
Bert Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 Why does anything positive turn into negative? Some people are ridiculous.
EnglishOxide Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 Why do people keep saying he is perfectly suited to the middle? He doesn't have a killer pass and can often get caught in possession. He scores goals by cutting in from the flanks. Yes, he is creative, but if he is played through the middle regularly it won't be long before he is getting marked out of the game. He thrives on the space he is afforded on the wings and it adds a bit of unpredictability to his play, which he needs.

When he was first here he was slotting through some inch perfect balls for our forwards (namely Waghorn) to miss.
Master Fox Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 He's been shit since Watford away. Is he still wearing those stupid gloves?
The Horse's Mouth Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 I hate the amount of times he tracks back tbh.

When he was first here he was slotting through some inch perfect balls for our forwards (namely Waghorn) to miss. Saying he doesn't have a killer pass is perhaps a bit much. I think i was more thinking along the lines of playing him centrally puts too much pressure on him and can result in him being crowded out.
Fox92 Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 If we had a good right winger, then I'd play him behind the striker. He'd be able to roam more there, and with his ability could cause damage right in the heart of the opposition. He doesn't seem to like defending either, but in that position he'd have another two midfielder behind him.

He thrives on the space he is afforded on the wings and it adds a bit of unpredictability to his play, which he needs. Because if he was playing in the middle he could roam left or right wing without upsetting the balance of the team and the cover for the defence. Playing in "the middle" doesn't mean staying in the middle and if people were marking him out of the game he could take them with him to the left or right.
GingerrrFox Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 Because if he was playing in the middle he could roam left or right wing without upsetting the balance of the team and the cover for the defence. Playing in "the middle" doesn't mean staying in the middle and if people were marking him out of the game he could take them with him to the left or right. Nail on the head. At times we look so exposed on the right flank because Knocky has gone roaming but it's not his fault because Nigel has told him to do it. It would make far more sense to give him a free role and have a true wide right player out there instead. Hence my preference for a 3-5-2/4-2-3-1/4-4-1-1.
Webbo Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 Knockaert: Championship is the hardest league in the world... but I'd give my life to play in the top flight Interview in the Mail; http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2527051/Knockaert-Championship-hardest-league-world-Id-life-play-flight.html

Playing in "the middle" doesn't mean staying in the middle and if people were marking him out of the game he could take them with him to the left or right. This is fine but having him in this role will only work in one type of formation we sometimes play which is 3-5-2. But we cant play this all the time as it leaves us exposed and is too attacking against solid teams that will sit back on 4-5-1 and counter us.
