Deucalion Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 If we have another slump in form this year to equal last year's, then we will finish on 80 points. Last year is the only time in the last five years when 80 points would be enough for automatic promotion. So we need to do better than last year from this point on. The highest points score for 3rd place in the last 5 years is 86, which is only actually 2 wins and a draw more than 80 points. So we don't have to do that much better than last year. But...as the adverts say, past performance doesn't guarantee future success, so the best thing is to keep winning games!! We are in a very strong position.
Miltonfox Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 Of course we are in a good position! We are Top - 9 Points clear (Rather have the points on the board than a game in hand!) No one really has the right to be pesimistic! We have done amazing this year, played some great football and fought hard for some wins. Yes we may have had to ride our luck... but thats what you have to do... you can't perform at 100% all of the time! - Yes it is likely we will not go on and win all the remaining gamwes... but we are in a fantastic position to absord any "bad run" Come on Leicester - This is the year!!!!
C-man Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 Four of the bottom 6 to play at home. If we can get four wins there then 6 wins from the other 15 should be more than enough. Very exciting.
Onions Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 Burnley ain't even an issue in my opinion. Only so long Vokes and Ings can carry that very average team, if they manage to keep them that is.
LCCFox96 Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 We just need to focus on ourselves. Everyone will gain points between now and the end of the season and everyone (contrary to alan young's unhelpful statement) will loose games and drop points too. We have to make sure we keep the gap we have opened up going for as long as possible and keeping it up for as long as possible. We can begin by keeping our excellent winning streak going tomorrow night. Another 3 points (hopefully) on the board, another game down and things are brighter than they were at full time in Saturday. Taking it game by game till May will mean we have the best chance as possible to go up and the team are doing well with this outlook so far. They just need to keep it up.
reynard Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 Just can't see Burnley sustaining it. They're the most vulnerable of the top three IMO with their lack of depth and will fall away I think even if it's only slightly. I'd imagine 85-90 points would be enough. We'll see but I don't see why they can't. they have only lost 3 games all season and have a front two scoring a lot of goals. Also I think it is still 2 from 5. 93 points should do it but at the moment it looks like at least three teams will get to the 90 point mark. Long way to go yet and we need to keep winning to pile on the pressure. let's face it though we could easily lose the next two and all of a sudden things might not look so good. Could win them as well and then things would look very positive.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 I think 92 will see us up automatically
dannyjpage Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 Burnley and QPR may have a game in hand but play each other on 1st Feb so points will be dropped. Its also a great opportunity to increase the gap between us and 3rd spot. Its great to be in such a good position and its been such an enjoyable season. Proud to be a fox.
dannyjpage Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 In fact Burnleys next 2 fixtures are Brighton and QPR. Its just a prediction but i can see a gap forming between 2nd and 3rd spot.
foxfanazer Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Don't want to tempt fate but I just can't see this team losing more than 2 on the bounce at any stage. The attitude has been superb in that regard
MC Prussian Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 But they are still only 9 points off us with a game in hand. It's silly how a team who has won 7 in a row can be only slightly ahead of a team that have won 4 in 3 months. Because at one point before that run, we were behind them?
lancyclaret Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Because at one point before that run, we were behind them? Leicester last dropped any points in the 1-1 home draw against Burnley. After that game, Leicester had 39 points - one behind Burnley who had 40. We all know the Foxes have taken an amazing 21 points from 7 games (Burnley did the same in Sept/Oct), but we haven't done that badly since the draw at your place. We've taken 11 points from 6 games (W3 D2 L1) which is easily play-off form if not automatic promotion form. Youv'e gained 10 points on us in 7 games which shows how if any side wins even 3/4 in a row, they can move quickly up the table if their rivals draw/lose a couple.
Corky Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 If you (lancy) were going to drop off it would've happened by now, you are up there to stay. It will be a battle until the end, anyone who thinks we are promoted now is mad.
Finnaldo Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 9 more wins required imo Sounds about right. We're definitely making it a lot easier for ourselves. We should be looking to get points against Bournemouth and playing Watford at home should be promising (they're 7 points off the 22nd now ). If our run ends, it most likely will be at Forest. Looking promising at the moment.
Happy Fox Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 8 wins surely! that would leave us with 87 points which should gain automatic promotion.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 7 wins from 18 I think will do it. Throw in a few draws and we'll be alright.
DanTheMan Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 Just had a little check of the history books: In order to have finished 2nd in the previous 10 seasons (i.e 1pt more than the team that DID finish 2nd) no team has needed more than 92pts worst case scenario. The best case would be 80pts ( which happened last season and the 2007/2008 season) The average total is 86.3pts over those 10 seasons.

Dan Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 We really have got to have a shocking change in fortunes to not do this in my opinion.
Anthrax Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 I think 85 would see us promoted. maybe 92/3 to win the title.
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 So from what is being posted we need to win half our remaining games ? Is that to big a ask ?
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 Win home games = Promoted Win home games and a couple of aways = champions
Happy Fox Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 If we don't win the league now, I would be pissed off. We are pretty much confirmed to finish in the playoffs now automatic promotion is the next step, I reckon that could be secured in the next 7 games.
